His skating has already improved so much from being drafted. His ceiling is sky high.

Has it improved or were the caveats about his skating just wrong.
My observation was when I went to the Rookie camp back in July, he looked slow that I speculated at the time was due to exhaustion and/or not trying hard. When I saw him in game, his acceleration was very noticeable to me. His skating seemed fine to me when he was scoring the goal last night.

On one of these pages I rant about not seeing the issue with his skating and that I thought his shot was his biggest weakness. He’s definitely a little awkward and seems to lack power in his first three steps but I feel like he actually has very quick feet. Or maybe he just has such a quick mind about when to start moving his feet he looks quick to me.

Carlsson admitted that he needed to improve his first three steps in a pre-draft interview with Spittin Chickets. In scouting videos, many cited how once he gets going, then he's good - kinda like Getzlaf. Of course, when compared to Fantilli, everybody's effin slow. Since Cronin's actually recording speed times in the summer, I wonder if it'll continue to see which players have progressed season after season?

What I liked about the video of him scoring is he is slowing down by coasting and weaving so that he remains a viable passing option for Terry instead of racing all out, but end up being too close to the goalie to either having the goalie disrupt the pass or nowhere to shoot b/c the goalie has filled up spot. Great pass by Terry too! As Carlsson said, "Well played. Well played."

Every big guys wants to improve his 3 stride quickness. I think part of his problem is he hasn’t fully physically matured. His lower body strength could make massive gains over the next few years if he dedicates himself to it:

One thing that's interesting about Leo is despite being a taller guy he doesn't use a particular long shaft relative to his height. some of the plays he made last night in close quarters were pretty remarkable.

I think a lot of that, and his awkwardness in some moves, is due to his late, but big, growth spurt. He still thinks the game more from the perspective of a smaller guy and doesn't use his frame to his advantage enough. Yet, I guess. Once he is really in tune with his body, he might very well be a dominating center in the mold of Malkin or Sundin.

Carlsson is the player I'm most excited to watch this year outside of the team I cheer for. This kid's stride reminds me of Mats Sundin. Big guy who moves faster than it appears. Uses his body to protect the puck. Very highly skilled. I think he's going to be a star.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The usual tactic for NHL head coaches and their top prospects playing their first game in the league is to temper expectations. The better the prospect, the more their coach tries to emphasize that no one should expect him to conquer the hockey world in 60 minutes.

Greg Cronin took the other direction as Leo Carlsson was to debut for the Ducks against Dallas on Thursday night. Forget giving him a simple message to go out and have fun. Cronin was already raising the bar for the 18-year-old.

Hours before Carlsson took the ice with fellow NHL ingenue Tristan Luneau for their solo laps, the Ducks’ new head coach said: “I told him this morning that I expect him to be the best player on the ice. He’s a good hockey player. He’s quiet, as you guys probably have learned, but he’s got a lot of self-confidence. I’m expecting him to be really visible.”

Nothing against fantili. As i have said i want both guys to become stars in the league but it would be awesome if leo lights up columbus just so people will stop saying ana should’ve drafted fantili
Just because this comment exists, Fantilli is probably going to light up Gibson

Leo is seriously one of the most intriguing prospects I've seen in many years. I was team Fantilli at WC and the draft, but I've since changed my mind as I've watched how much Leo continues to improve. I have no idea which player will turn out better in the end, but Carlsson's progress and the way he gels with pretty much everyone he plays with, not to mention the fact that he's still not physically mature... I just can't remember the last time I've seen a prospect quite like him before. I get now why there were a few draft commenters that put out the crazy opinion that he could be the best player in the draft when all is said and done. His potential is undeniable at this point.

My roommate (Canucks fan) thinks Carlsson has looked better than Bedard in his limited play (but could be just bitterness haha). In all honesty, it could end up being the case. Bedard doesn’t move nearly as well as Crosby and Mcdavid did and a lot of people are overlooking that and his size. There’s plenty of opportunity for Leo to really close that gap (if it even exists)
