Pure comedy gold. So we don't know the status of Leo and JD is apparently injured. The Ducks say nothing, Glad they give a shit about their fans.

This is frustrating to say the least. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me
He has typically played 8-10 games per month in his professional career. The NHL plays at a much higher rate.

When you play that often and dont give your body time to recover you are more likely to be injured or hit a wall. The Ducks are more concerned with his longterm play and physical development then they are with winning right now.

As long as they are not talking out of their ass then I have no issue with this. Obviously it is disappointing that he is missing the game against Fantilli, but it is what it is.

This is par for the course in baseball. It's just relatively new for hockey, but the concept is the same.

Gives zegras a chance to show management that we should be rolling leo Trevor Mac down the middle.

I'm 100% okay with Leo playing half a season's worth of games while being on a strength training program this first year. I think that's super smart and it's the same reasoning as to why people feel college hockey is so beneficial for young players. However the season ticket holder side of me is crying inside.

Seems like it should also prioritize home games over road. Less travel, less aggravated paying fans.

Just throwing this out there, trying to be logical instead of emotional.

He played 57 SHL games last year and averaged 14:40 per game. He played about 9 games per month on average. Thats about 132 minutes per month.

He is going to be playing 20 minutes a night on the Ducks top line. If he does that for the 14 games per month the Ducks play then his minutes per month will go from 132 to 280. That is a huge increase, while also traveling more, and playing against better players.

Even if they sit him 1/3 of the games he is still playing like 40% more hockey minutes per month then he did in the SHL last year.

The bottom line is that Verbeek is interested in a cup window from 2025-2030 and is going to do whatever possible to make that happen

I’m just surprised ownership was cool with this plan when they hired him

I’m excited

I would be upset as a player too. Granted, I am sure he knows the actual games played he's expected to hit but even sitting him for 12 games can take him out of Calder contention which costs him money.

He has 2 years until he can sign an extension. He has plenty of time to earn his next contract.

I could be wrong but most high end ELCs come with a performance bonus package that includes the Calder. Maybe he did not negotiate that one.

I wonder if Verbeek realizes he has to play 82 games eventually, he’s a rookie, this is all part of getting accustomed to the NHL. Sure sit him on back to backs but I don’t give a f*** how into nutrition Verbeek is, this is a bogus move. Strength and conditioning is an off-season game, one that the Ducks will have another long one - he needs to be playing

Just throwing this out there, no basis in fact that I know of. Perhaps there was a split in Duck management re what to do with Leo this season. Some wanted him to play in Sweden because he wasn't physically strong enough and 18, etc. Some said that he's our #1 center and how is he going to improve in SHL. What we are seeing may be the compromise. We'll keep him with Ducks but intersperse playing in games with strength training and development.
