Do I believe the overhype like you're doing? Nope. Am I open to the possibility? Sure, which I admit. Am I high on that possibility? No. Now that we've drafted Carlsson, it feels as though there's overhyping on Carlsson.

Unlike some other posters, including yourself, I wasn't fence flipping on my preference between Carlsson and Fantilli. I didn't need the WC to recognize Carlsson's talent. Between Carlsson and Fantilli, Fantilli is a more finished product now and Carlsson still has more development as well as upside in his future. I've been consistent on Carlsson's talent and believe it'll take some time before he's an established top-6C. Here's asst GM Madden on Carlsson:

On top of that, he made his his linemates better. So that's number one. I think that's the most important part of his game that we see continue to allow him to grow into a dominant first line center for us in the future. Obviously he's not done growing. Mentally, he's really mature. He understands himself physically. He's still not there yet. He's really strong on the ice, but he's got so much more potential as he'll keep growing and he'll be a different kid physically two years from now.

The org is testing on where Carlsson can go play this year. They don't know where Carlsson will play, but they're not set on the NHL or bust mode:

"We're going to find the right league," Verbeek said. "If the NHL's not it, we'll try San Diego. If that's not it, then he'll go back to Orebro. We're just going to wait and see."

You haven't presented specific projections why Carlsson will be a top-6C to start this season full-time, not part time as you've already suggested. I believe in the hype of Carlsson, but I don't believe in the overhyping of Carlsson, which is more about you than Carlsson or other posters. I like possibilities, but don't mistake it for probability.
What is the "overhype" and which part of it am I buying? What position have I taken on whether Carlsson is ready for top 6 ice time right now? What possibility have I mistaken for probability, and when? Why did you respond to an accusation that you're weirdly making this about you by making it about you?

By the way, in writing, the maxim "quantity has a quality all its own" does not hold. (this part really is about you).

3 questions that came to mind after reading this post.

1. What is the evidence that Fantilli is a more finished product now?
2. Who has said that Carlsson is a top 6 C on the Ducks right now?
3. What Duck fans are overhyping Carlsson?

My two cents is that based on playing against superior competition last season as well as having a more important role in the WC, the argument could be made that Carlsson is more NHL ready than Fantilli. Being OK with Verbeek bringing Carlsson to camp doesn't mean fans are overhyping him or putting him in the top 6. It just means we're OK with seeing where he fits after training camp.

If only there was some kind of mechanism that allows teams to not have to rely on offseason fan speculation before camp starts to determine player readiness. It would be so helpful to just be able to see guys play at that level for a bit, without wasting a year of their contract. We could just sit back now and see what happens, but given the absolute lack of such a thing, we have no other choice but to figure this stuff out right now, on HF Boards, while no hockey is being played.

He might play a game or two in NHL, he might play in AHL. But everybody who plays knows it is best for the development to play as much as u can. A few minutes here and there are just stupid. Let him play fulltime C in AHL or Orebro. That is the best way to develope him. He will not dominate in AHL or SHL. NHL? forget about it!

I'm seeing the weirdest narrative forming that if Carlsson isn't in the SHL for the next season the Ducks are somehow bungling his development. Its backed by nothing.
Seriously. Fans acting like they know exactly how he will do in the NHL. Why don’t we wait and see how he looks before making definitive statements on him. He may excel day1. I also don’t see how he would be ruined in the ahl. The ducks would devote every resource they have to develop him.

I'd hate the Lundestrom scenario where he ends up going through various leagues because it turned out the NHL wasn't the best scenario. But ofc I cannot claim I know how Carlsson will fare
Prob a pretty good chance he's able to stick with the Ducks.

I think he was being sarcastic but I could be wrong.
I also read it as a commentary on the incessant posts insisting Carlsson isn't ready for the NHL and would be better served developing in the SHL. But I could be wrong as well.

It's commentary on the idea that saying anything other than Leo should 100% go back to Sweden is somehow "overhyping" him. The people who think that take any other opinion of Leo as implicit criticism of themselves and then they lard the conversation with a bunch of strawmen to argue against, sometimes backed up by tables of anec-data (you know who you are).

Now I've explained the joke and it isn't funny, good job everyone.

Nah, still funny.

Orebro started their preseason schedule this morning, but Carlsson will not be participating in any of their games despite training with them until it's time to travel to Anaheim.

Writing is on the wall he is going to start in the NHL. I think sending him back to the SHL will be the last resort. Hope it doesn't get to that point.
