Before everyone starts piling on about Gustavsson… yes it’s funny that the next season after he gets traded, he’s posting unreal numbers in Minny. But it would be disingenuous at best to believe that if Ottawa would have simply kept him he’d be having the same career year. Obviously he has lots of potential but everyone knows that Minny is a much better defensive team and goalies are much better insulated there. Heck look at Cam Talbot from last year, he played great for Minny (0.911%) until they got Fleury. Let’s just move on and stay on topic.
Edit: Gustavsson was awful for us last year. At the time, the trade was a reasonable bet. I’m also willing to bet that there’s no way he keeps up these same numbers.

You're gonna LOVE this brand new, top of the line, Matt Murray we have in stock. What if I told he was familiar with the Ottawa area, had a great moustache, and is so committed to the game that he's already recovered from 74 injuries in his career just to get right back out there on the ice. It's only a 1 year commitment too! It's like finding a college girlfriend in senior year that you know is moving to Palo Alto at the end of the year anyway.
Your dreams are just one call to Kyle Dubas away.
I like Greig, but his ceiling is a middle 6 forward. Briere should excercise patience and (Greig and a 1st) would not be enough.Hart would be greig first 23 and 2nd 24. He's a cornerstone piece and not going to be let go of easily
I dont see why Saros wouldnt be available; Nashville is stuck in no-mans land, theyd do well to rebuildBoth are unavailable.
Saros is young and Askarov is no guarantee. If we were to move him his price would be higher than you'd want.I dont see why Saros wouldnt be available; Nashville is stuck in no-mans land, theyd do well to rebuild
This is the last comment that I will address because this isn’t on topic. Most nhl goalies rely on team defense for their results and only 10 or so of the upper echelon goaltenders can stand on their heads despite playing on teams like Ottawa who aren’t good defensively. Cam Talbot and Filip Gustavsson aren’t those goalies. Both of them have benefited from playing on a stronger defensive team like Minnesota and both of them did not benefit from playing on a team like Ottawa. It’s really not hard to understand if you would have bothered to do research or educate yourself.
Ottawa needs Claude Julien. Then add some solid blue line PKers (Derek Forbort etc), then get really wild and trade for Swayman & Taylor Hall.. I’ve always felt the Tkachuk brothers were meant to be Boston Bruins
Some team would pay for Saros and hes not 21 so hes not young enough to stick around through a rebuildSaros is young and Askarov is no guarantee. If we were to move him his price would be higher than you'd want.
Hard pass.I like Greig, but his ceiling is a middle 6 forward. Briere should excercise patience and (Greig and a 1st) would not be enough.
Why move your Goalie who is among the best in the league? What if Askarov doesnt work out?I dont see why Saros wouldnt be available; Nashville is stuck in no-mans land, theyd do well to rebuild
All jokes aside Julien was exactly what the Bruins needed back then. The Sens roster looks really solid. Imo they need an upgrade at D in a couple spots. Julien may not be the long term solution but he’s great to get the direction of the ship turned. What's interesting is that Julien lives in the Ottawa area.
I think he'd be a good fit as well.
Interestingly, I've always felt that Pastrnak was meant to be a Senator!
Because Saros is turning 28 and a rebuild would take them quite a whileWhy move your Goalie who is among the best in the league? What if Askarov doesnt work out?
Id ask for entirely too much if I was Nashville. so much that it just wouldnt be worth it for Ottawa
not all rebuilds have to take a long time. and 28 is pretty young for a goalieBecause Saros is turning 28 and a rebuild would take them quite a while
Nashville's roster is top-heavy with guys over 30 - itd take them at least 4+ yearsnot all rebuilds have to take a long time. and 28 is pretty young for a goalie
yeah so that doesnt mean the asking price wouldnt be extremely high. 28 isnt really that old for a goalieNashville's roster is top-heavy with guys over 30 - itd take them at least 4+ years
A lot had to do with Minnesota, Talbot was 32-12 last year, and went undefeated in last 14 games or something. His entire body of work in the organization was great other than when he had to play infront of the covid team. Stop acting like it was a good trade. Dorion is an idiot and has no ability to evaluate goalies let alone pro talent. He had a .931 the year before Ottawa. Talent was obvious. It was horrible player management and Development.
The sens have no assets left to trade. Only option is to sign Andersen or Varlamov. They need a new GM.
Don't want Swayman either cost too much and he is unproven. Someone short term that has a prove track record.
I never argued it wasnt!yeah so that doesnt mean the asking price wouldnt be extremely high. 28 isnt really that old for a goalie
I dont think they really need to move him to rebuild but yeah moving him would or should bring in nice piecesI never argued it wasnt!
Just stating the obvious that Nashville can kick off their rebuild nicely by moving Saros
Gus moves so much better its blatantly obvious he is the more talented player. Gus was good in ottawa other than when the was playing in front of a skeleton of a team. They were absolutely abysmal in front of him last year. He was also up and down like a yo yo. Talbot didnt have close to as good a season as Gus is currently having in Minny and was much worse in ottawa in front of a much better team than Gus ever got to play for in Ottawa. Since 2020 he has only had one poor stretch and that was with Ottawa when they literally had an AHL roster. He was good absolutely every where else. Including his other stints in Ottawa and Belleville. Which is a much larger sample size then the one you are choosing to use. Matt Murray is a big reason why Gustavsson didnt work out in Ottawa. Constantly getting 'injured' or shitting the bed. Not good for a 22 year olds development thats for sure.A lot had to do with Minnesota, Talbot was 32-12 last year, and went undefeated in last 14 games or something.
The 931 save percentage was based on 8 starts in 20/21.
Talbot good in Minnesota , not so good in Ottawa.
Gus good in Minnesota not so good in Ottawa.
