Post-Game Talk: Legends of the Visible Garden

I thought there were a lot of positives in both the Pittsburgh and Seattle games despite the loss yesterday which was solely due to goaltending. Even the 1st period today was fine by all accounts. But it was followed up by a disgraceful and uninspired 2 periods against the worst team in hockey at home. To play like that given the circumstances, upcoming schedule, etc is just pathetic.

But why pay him at all? We already suck with him, I'd rather do it without him & that anchor of a deal.
I'm not completely happy about it myself, but there was no chance it wasn't happening. We aren't going to rebuild.

Playing devil's advocate, we have been very fortunate with goalies over the years, but some teams struggle to ever find good goaltending. I'd rather have the problem of overpaying an elite goalie than having a bad goalie.

People love to say that teams can win with an average goalie, and it's true, but we haven't been able to win with elite goaltending, even when those goalies were relatively cheap. So why would we be able to win with an average goalie? Paying a goalie less only matters if we spend that money wisely at other positions. We haven't shown that we're capable of doing that.

Nobody is placing all of the blame, or even most of the blame, on him.

But he set the tone for this core's identity.

I thought you finally understood that coaches don't matter.

Do you remember when you droned on and on that everything was AV's fault?

Now Quinn set the tone?

You know it's funny, as recently as midway through the game yesterday I thought we stopped the bleeding and got rid of the cancer. I even had hope after last game as we lost because of Quick. But this team clearly just doesn't care. And yet the idiots will take the players' side with the NMC. Players get paid, get NMCs and check out. I know not everyone who has checked out has an NMC but it's just incentive to check out.
It's not a coincidence that we started bleeding a bit less without Trouba, but there's still way too many bad players on this roster.

Well we're destined for the dreaded middle where we either sneak into a wild card spot or barely miss the playoffs. Drafting 17 every year because our goalie steals a few games that we had no business winning.

It's literally NHL purgatory. I'm glad I'm not a season ticket holder.

Coaches don't matter in terms of getting results when the team is contending. "Systems" are mostly homogenous and the coach is not magically fixing the roster.

I would like to retool the roster, and when a new core is developing, I think it's important who's in charge. I know you think players are entirely autonomous and development doesn't exist, but players react to reward stimuli, because of course they do.

Zibanejad sucks entirely because Zibanejad sucks. There being absolutely no accountability for that for several years is a decision other people made.

Finally people outside of the NYR bubble are starting to notice Mika. I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. He deserves all the loud public ridicule.

What’s even more bothersome is watching Mika glare back at Lindgren after the goal like it wasn’t his fault.

I mean there has to come a point where there is some accountability. Mika just isn’t playing well and his negative vibe is coarsing through this team
