Maybe so, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. It's not hard to put on some muscle. These guys can't devote 4 hours to the gym each week and eat properly?
I’m guessing youre joking? He works out more than 4 hours a week.

4 hours per week. My son and his teammates are in the gym an 1 hour per day during ball season and between 2 and 3 hours per day right now. That’s in addition to hitting, fielding and bullpens.….and he doesn’t look like Mitch.

I doubt they are doing 4 hours of weight training per week. Their off-ice training would be more geared towards dynamic movements and lower body strength. I get that, and it's the right approach given what they do for a living. My comment about his upper body size is nothing more than a pet peeve of mine. I want every hockey player to look like Jagr.

I've shit on marner alot, but he's got alot more heart than Auston
He's always put in his best effort.
Mathews not so much.
This is what I was worried about mathews when he signed he's not shooting the puck or hustling.

Again, I suspect their workouts are not geared towards building muscle. If they are training for a sport, their workouts are and should be geared towards movements that are beneficial for that sport. As I said, the muscle thing is just a pet peeve of mine. I've spent the better part of 35 years in gyms. I think muscle mass is critical for any guy, whether an athlete or not.

Let me tell you about this guy named Wayne...
Yeah, that seems like a fair comparison for other hockey players.

I don't like the title.

For me it's not that they gave up a two goal lead. It's that they weren't capable of extending the lead. This was the bigger issue.

Still a lot of positive in another OT win. They are winning and getting points in tight games.

I also don't like "inferior team" in quotations. That's nonsense.

If they’re not playing their best, then why aren’t they?

I think they are continuing what they’ve done in the past with this core. They rarely dictate the outcomes of games.

There is a definite stink around the team, but it is sort of funny.

They’d be 2nd in the Metro - technically T-2nd with Carolina but they have game in hand and goal differential. We’ve got a soft Metro as it stands and where’s the thread for Carolina looking human?

3rd in a top heavy central with games in hand on the teams below them.

4th in the Pac with games in hand on everyone minus LA, who they’d be right behind.

This year feels very strange - I hope it’s a good strange.

There is a reason that powerlifters look the way they do. Size does mean power.

How many of the big powerlifters have you seen run, or skate fast?

Like seriously dude, you really think Marner needs to be 280 lbs?

How much time have you spent around competitive powerlifters? Serious question... It sounds like you don't know much about it at all. You do know that they aren't all just the big guys right?

Ever hear about Vladimir Shmondenko? Guy is 172 pounds. His deadlift record is 290kg.

His squat personal record is 210kg.

There are a ton of other STRONG guys, who don't weight much, lifting a ton of weight in their weight category. Marner doesn't need to be big, and slow... just strong, and fast.

For his size, he's pretty strong. He was squatting 375 for example. Size does not always mean power.
I know he’s skinny and about 6’ with small bones, but that would put him in the 50th percentile of high school baseball and football players.

Me too. More reps less weight for me.

That matches what I thought I saw. That line was a joke. Matthews looks like he is labouring every shift and his decision making (as in when to shoot) has been terrible lately. Maybe he is up late every night counting all those dollars!

Needed a game like that from Mitch, hopefully he carries that forward for a bit.

I really thought McCabe was great all night. Physical, moving the puck well and battling hard.

Woll has taken hold of the starters job imo.

Marner and Woll outstanding, and McCabe (who I’m normally not a big fan of) was quite noticeably good too.

Is this team firing on all cylinders? No. But we’re getting wins anyways, and hopefully we start really clicking soon.

50th percentile of high school baseball players?

Sorry I'm not buying that at all.

The 50th percentile squat for NCAA Baseball players is 270. 360 is 90th percentile

50th percentile for High School 16-18 year old boys Football players is 335lbs.

So... not really close.

I don’t see any difference between this year and last.

Oh come on. I'm clearly not suggesting that Marner should weigh 280 pounds. A guy can be ripped at 140 pounds. Having muscle mass doesn't mean you have to look like Ronnie Coleman. As for deadlifting 600 pounds, a half-decent 180 pound lifter can deadlift 600 pounds. Competitive powerlifting and strongman competitions are a different world. Those guys have near superhuman strength. And, yes, they are giants, in every sense of the word. To do what they do, they need to be near 400 pounds in bodyweight.

This is way off-topic (but I am a huge strongman fan). End of the day, the Leafs won, and their best players carried the day. It probably wasn't as pretty as it should have been, but take it and run.

Leafs are 7-2-1 in the last 10. But it somehow feels like it's 2-7-1 the way they seem so disconnected and don't have their fundamentals down and leaky in all positions, defense banged up and key players just not really firing on all cylinders.

Not sure what that means, if they'll turn a corner and really take off, or if all the holes in their game will bury them. Just a very strange feeling season so far.

I'm happy with the 2 points, however I'm very unhappy that this team can't overpower lesser teams the way they should be able to.

Thank you Marner. Thank you Woll. Very little thanks to the rest of the team !!!

Giving up 2 goal leads is unacceptable, and getting really old now. They need to realize that practicing OT in the regular season doesn't help them in the playoffs. No 3 on 3 or shootouts to be had in the playoffs FFS, so stop practicing it so much.

When will our Leafs have every player show up in games and DOMINATE? Marner showed up, however Nylander has gone stone cold to match that of Matthews.

Wake up and play to your salaries in every stinking game against all opponents, bad or good !!!
