Pretty well whats being said.We have one line basically that the other team has to concentrate on and thats about it.Laine doesn't do much but score on the PP.We don't generate near enough quality scoring chances.Half of the games we have like 10 shots on goal after 2 periods. No chance of winning games.Goalies are no longer stealing games for us either
If we expect goalies to steal games as the winnings should happen, we know nothing about hockey. Why not build an hockey team who shoot 40 shots a game and allow 22 shots on our goalie?

Simple...the clock has struck midnight for the scrubs that played over their head

Armia, Gallagher, Anderson, Evans all had nice spurts here and there but are all now reverting back to their useless means.

I would throw in DVO, but he’s been useless since the beginning so no difference.
The good thing is they played well against the teams that are potential trade partners at the TDL

Every team have winning streaks. Mtl didn't have since last 4 years (pandemic year). Teams like Bruins, Canes, Bolts, Panthers, Golden K, LA Kings, Oilers, Avs, Stars, etc have winning streaks all the time or every year.
Habs fans need patience. Once our deadwood will be gone and replaced by better players we will be in da mix (as long as our coaching staff is competent). But our young players have the right stuff or not? How many years before Hage, Rein, Fowler, Tuch, Roy and Beck become regular roster and change the team? In the mean time, what our team will look like?
I fear that it isn't our deadwood holding us back but our young players that we expected to be better, who may end up never taking that next jump. We really need Demidov to save us and one of Reinbacher or Hage to become an impact player.

Feels like 80% of the rebuild is now dependent on Demidov, 10% on our other prospects and 10% on the current roster.

Is all of the above not an option? Every one applies to a certain degree. But to me mostly team somehow allowed to come out flat and not play full 60 minutes with intensity. And PP. Man, it is god awful again. And even if Habs are going to sell all the dead weight this TDL, this isn't going to be a better team next season, because at best, Savard, Dvorak, et Co. will be replaced with green rookies who won't generate more wins. Habs need veteran help. In ALL positions. And that's Hughes' job.

I was sort of talking about the present team and the losing...not the future. The goalies were playing outstanding thus we were winning a few games strictly because of that. Now that they are back to mediocre certainly not helping the situation.

I see what you mean but I am from the school of hockey is a team sport. Not like NBA with one major star and the rest of the team follows. If that was the case, Matthews with the Leafs would have won the Cup at least once. He was neutralised by skilled defensive players and more complete teams.

I still see lot of players who are anchors. They don't contribute in scoring, their stats are in the minus. It become so easy to check Suzuki Slaf and Caufield and not worrying on the other lines. I mean, who will worry with the DVO line, lol? Every hockey analyst will say winning teams are those with a 3rd or 4th line scoring big goals one in a while. Take example our winning streak : 2nd, 3rd and 4th line (Evans, Heineman, Dach) were scoring goals and tell me no joke look in my eyes that it didn't help winning game. If you expect only the first line (or only the big stars) will score goals and expect that team to win, I don't know what to say.

We get little to no PPs anymore. Maybe it’s teams now extra careful, or maybe it’s the reffing. That means no goal or building momentum.

But unlike many top teams our 1st PP is capped at 1 minute. Could it be a deal made with MM and DAch to swallow a move to the2nd PP?

Our 1st PP is so good and our 2nd PP is the ugliest in NHL history. No talent, no direction, no structure.
