Having not seen an update on him, I really hope that this is a good thing not a last wish type of thing.
I thought otherwise, but.....the way these tweets are coming out....it's like they know it's the only time he will get to do this.

Never thought of it that way, but I pray this is us being pessimistic...

Ya that was what I was thinking too unfortunately.

Let's hope he's okay

A better game but still a lot of errors this one.

Leafs also need a lot more from Line 1. We haven't seen them dominate offensively. It's been very... meh. They still do good things but just need a little more. They started similar last year (Matthews was injured though).

Kerfoot and Jarnkrok have been great.

Marner and Matthews are still quite out of sync and the Bunting/Matthews miss on the tap in was unusual to see.

I'll take the win. And glad that despite a rough first period that Samsonov had a good remainder of the game. Will need one of these guys to really take off and run away with the net.

The first month is packed with games and the team has to get some points. Nice for Matthews to get his first of the year. But definitely need him and his line to really get going.

I would say it probably is. If he's training and working with the staff his health is good enough to allow him to do so.

Nice to see Samsonov pull it together after that start. I was definitely starting to panic after the second goal.

first line will get going when Marner gets going. He's been a slow starter going back to junior. I get it, his game has a complex rhythm to it.

decent effort all around. ice surface looked BRUTAL.

Once again, Matthews scores to break the tie, 31 seconds later Muzzin gets an interference call.
Then 2 more penalties.
Remember when we were told that game management was to keep penalties equal?
They were equal. Until we went up 3-2
Then 3 straight.

The Leafs get penalized for scoring.
How is calling penalties based on score NOT game fixing?
Penalty right after scoring
Like f***ing clockwork, every time.

The boys dominate and assert control over the game and the refs step in.

Jarnkrok was a helluva addition
This might be a hot take...but I think he might be the reason we are able to trade away kerfoot.

I think we have 4 games in 6 days so it'll be a hectic time.

Also which anime is that from O_O

I thought they played very good in front of Samsanov. They were much improved defensively in front of the goalie. I'm not sure what the analytics say but it seemed like they really kept the high danger scoring chances down and overall it was a fun game. I don't even remember Washington getting to many big scoring chances except the Ovechkin one timers that just missed and even the goals were a little bit weak.

Samsanov was weak early on imo but finished much stronger. I give a B performance to Samsanov and an A+ performance to the whole team in front of him who did a great job limiting higher danger chances. If they can build on this we might have an improved defensive team.

Seeing Matthews play with some aggression is a beautiful thing, let’s hope that continues more than once in a while.
Holl is absolutely brutal but give him credit for the shot blocks.
PP1 needs to play the full two minutes. Not enough skill on the team for two units.

Strange opening night. Other than the intros you would have thought it was just a normal week night game. Another cheesy scarf to add to the pile as well.

Leafs are going to need to find a way to be tougher. Scrolling through this lineup and there is no one who can fight or be tough. People are taking runs at Matthews already….who will stand up for him? I honestly don’t know if the leafs will have a fight this year …

And I know fighting in the game has changed but even someone to be nasty. Like I cant see it…might not matter in the season but I think come playoffs it will

Look at last few years:
- Tampa has Maroon, Perry, Cernak
- Coloroda has Toews, Manson, Landeskog, Kadri last year
- Montreal year before had Weber, Chiarot, Edmundson
- Vegas the year before Martinez, Tuch, Reeves, McNabb

Leafs don’t have anyone like any of these players

Disagree as of game 2. Jarnkrok looked good but Kerfoot was the one holding the two together imo. Take out that sauce pass from kerfoot and jarnkrok doesn't even get mentioned today unless we're in the business of praising simply not sucking.

We probably should've won by more to be honest, loved the compete and effort. Just hope they can play every game with that much intensity, looked like a completely different team than it was against the Habs. The Tavares line has been great in both games so far, love to see Matthews physically engage himself. Even when he wasn't getting the offensive production, he made his impact felt off the puck that's exactly what I love to see from our guys. Keep playing hard and impact the game any way you can.

Absolutely love Kubel, this guy finishes every check, great skater and great hitter. He's been my favorite addition so far, Malgin looks solid too.

Marner played a better game than some of the shit stepping hot takes around here.
I only see people asking for his ceiling. So ask yourself has marner been playing at his ceiling?

If your answer is yes you're the one with the shit stepping hot take. Marner is God mode can win games by himself

The hot takes are disguised compliments.

How exactly are these players going to prevent teams from running Matthews? If they want to run Matthews, they will run Matthews with or without these players on the team. Trouba had no issue running MacKinnon with Landeskog on the ice, was more than willing to fight Landeskog after the hit, and continues to run people to this day? Where is the prevention? You think Trouba thinks twice about doing it again?

Also, half of those guys are not even tough? Toews is softer than most of our defensemen and hasn't been in a fight in his entire NHL career. Kadri mostly fights when he has to answer for something he has done or he sticks up for himself. Martinez has barely fought and when he did stand up for a teammate one time, he promptly got his ass handed to him and gave further momentum to the other team. Tuch hasn't been in a fight in over 4 years. NAK and ZAR are tougher than most guys on that list. Heck even Holl has been in more fights recently than most of these guys.

Then you have guys like Reaves and Maroon who hasn't fought anyone besides a fellow goon for like 3 years. If we wanted those kinds of guys, we would have kept Simmonds on the roster... Except anyone who watches the games knows that Simmonds is not good anymore and does not serve any real purpose. People had no issues running our guys with Simmonds in the lineup, and it will be no different with him out of the lineup. Anyone important on the other team is not going to fight Simmonds because they are not stupid and selfish. They know that Simmonds is a great fighter and that they are far more important out of the penalty box than Simmonds.

If you don't like it, then hit them back. Hathaway went after Matthews, and Muzzin hit him back harder. Even Matthews laid out some solid hits. We are not a team that gets pushed over physically, and it won't be any different this year.
