Sparks reminds me of Reimer.. And not in a good way
The rebounds and panic were giving me flashbacks for sure, but it was a gong show of a game and only the third one of the season. Lets see how he settles in.

I also don't think anyone would ultimately object to Reimer as a backup. He'd be about league average in that respect.

So Andersen goes down in game 3 of the conference finals and we are left with an NHL rookie goalie in Sparks..it’ll have no effect on our ability to win the cup? Okay then.

Backup goaltending has EVERYTHING to do with a teams ability to win in the playoffs.

Off the top of my head I can't think of one team whos backup Goalie led them to the cup. If your starter gets knocked out, you're toast end of story. Once the playoffs start, Sparks is as close to irrelevant as it gets.

I didn't even think he was that bad tonight. That puts me in the solid minority I guess but that's fine.

If the plan was to have Freddy play less games and be more rested, Dubas f***ed up hard. Nothing from sparks’ play has shown he can give us quality goaltending. Babcock hates losing, so he will overuse Andersen since he doesn’t trust Sparks. A gassed Freddy come playoff time is a disaster waiting to happen.

Which of these goals against was Sparks at fault for? I could maybe blame him for the third and 6th goal. Don't think he had much of a chance on the others.

Holy hell, that was a fun game.

Sparks was pretty bad...no more like awful tonight but hey 1-0 and something to build on.

Hard to even analyze what the hell was going on there at the end. Our elite players got the better of your elite players I guess.

2 points in the bank and movin on to Dallas....which has the makings of another fun one.

Rielly/Hainsey further back from the dead as Hainsey has actually played really well the last 2 games. This game it was Zaitsev/Gards in the hot seat with Gards taking the heat instead of Zaitsev for once. That tape to tape pass to the hawks at the end of the second was the stuff of legends though and they were weaker than usual tonight.

Kap getting on that top line was gold. went straight to his legs.

Marincin played solid tonight. Yea, I said it.

Marner on pace for around 100 points.
Tavares on pace for around 100 goals.
Matthews leads the league in goals and points.
Rielly leads all dmen in goals and points.

....and it doesnt feel like they are getting lucky out there.

Feels good man.

Studies have been done that show it correlates *extremely* strongly with zone time.

That's the whole reason no one tracks zone time separately. Corsi such a good proxy that there's no point.

Corsi's a mediocre proxy for puck possession let alone zone time. It's just easy to track, calculate and work with. I bet every team in the league tracks actual possession, actual zone time, actual shot danger, etc.

Biggest surprise for me was the Auston showboating...hope he learned a lesson when Kaner scored right away! Don't jinx your team like that....and it's not cool,in my books!
Lol what? Sounds like an article Simmons would write : "Auston Matthews selfish showboating almost cost the Leafs. Will he learn from his almost 'mistake' ?".

It was his first game this season. Yup, we are done here. He is our backup, not our number 1. Relax bud.

As I said I don't really care, we're a good enough team to survive a subpar backup, I simply can't help but be baffled by your arguments.

I know this was just his first game and all but the thought of Sparks playing 20+ games this year is a scary one.

We know Freddy will settle in as the season progresses but Sparks was just plain terrible. The decision to let MC go seems like a terrible one right now.
