I was happy with the rest of the team effort, but this point can't go unnoticed. The amount of time they played in the O zone was impressive, especially for what might be considered a shut down line.

I've said all year, I don't really care if they score if they can just harass the opposition to a standstill.

Engvall needs to stay in the lineup. MTL is only dangerous off of the rush and both Mikheyev/Engvall are arguably two of the better defensive Leaf forwards, especially in transition.

The most positive aspect about Pierre's game is that he's showing a willingness to sacrifice the body more and more throughout the season. Something Gauthier never got mentally. If he continues to use his 6'5" frame and consistently forecheck he will stay in the lineup permanently because he's a rare player with that speed/shot combo for his size. I've said it before but there's lot of Kreider in his game.

Good game all around.... team looked million times better than they did in game 1. If toronto plays like that the rest of the series i dont know that montreal has any answers.

Engvall/spezza were definitely a difference makers in the game, bringing energy and effort .... defense was great, powerplay was productive... and matthews/marner found the score sheet. Sandin had a much better game also.

Still expect a bit more from Foligno

Foligno was decent considering he was playing centre...missed an open net in the 1st, and he owned the Habs in the faceoff dot.

Leafs should treat Game 3 as Game 7 man. It's extremely f***ing crucial to win with Campbell in Game 3 before the back to back with Andersen in net.

If we can win Game 3, we can take some risks even with Andersen in net because at worst it's 2-2 but if we lose Game 3, it becomes hard because I just don't think the guys really trust Andersen to make any key saves.

I mean I’m not saying that the penaltys the Habs took weren’t penalties.. but the Leafs got away with a lot that could have been.

I was expecting 2-3 Montreal PP’s in the 3rd but the Leafs controlled the game so well

It was good to see a response from Simmonds. Two hander on Edmundson and then right to Chiarot.
It was, but I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a suspension or fine because of it.

Don't think it warrants a suspension, but who knows these days and with the Duclair hack on Kuch this afternoon

I hope the biggest impact of this game is psychological. The PP goals, Matthews goal, and the win should do wonders to get the Leafs some sorely needed confidence in playoff games, while at the other end hopefully both Montreal and Price are questioning themselves about their ability to play at the Leafs' level.

That Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Engvall trio is really effective (even Mik was throwing the body around!). Muzzin and Bogosian had strong, unheralded games tonight, while that first goal by Spezza... the veteran putting a dejected team on his shoulders. Montreal fans are whining about the penalties, and certainly we can't count on 5 straight PPs every night, but none of them were not legitimate. Stop crosschecking, stop slashing, stop running picks, and you won't get called -- of course it is also that type of game that is their only hope to beat us. So they pray that the officials swallow their whistles and complain when they don't.

I don't know if that Simmonds slash was retaliation for the hit on Engvall (which likely only escapes a fine/suspension because Engvall wasn't injured) or a product of his earlier scuffle with Edmundson, but it was a richly deserved cheap shot at a player and team that have been taking far too many liberties over the past two games.

Finally... despite this being a relatively solid game, I still feel we have more in the tank, and the reason for that is the 1st line: Marner is still MIA (despite the assist), Hyman still needs to get his feet under him, and together they seem to be holding Matthews back a bit. We really need that line to come to life, especially with Tavares out.

If I’m Keefe, I rip the A off Marner and call him out for his game. Absolutely sickening and frustrating when he has the talent and drive during the reg season. Is he hurt? Scared?

Keefe got some balls to put the 4th line against their first line occasionally.

Which one was the 1st line again? I couldn’t tell...lol can’t help myself.

Damn near perfect hockey game. Best part for me - Auston Matthews stepping up as a leader. This kid is so damn special. He has yet to stop evolving as a player, and I think we’re about to witness a monumental step.

GO LEAFS GO!!!

Campbell needs to play every single game. None of this andersen crap.

Yeah, there could have been some calls against the Leafs and some stuff that could have been offsetting where they take both guys.

The biggest takeaway for me is how engaged Matthews has looked. Marner has shown the odd glimpse of something, but I would expect his play to be elevated a bit more in the coming games.

Great response from the boys tonight.

I didn't get this, was he really trying to imply sweep? Wasn't he a healthy scratch on Game 1?
