Just a rock solid effort again tonight, the only negative about tonight was Patches injury, hopefully that's a short term issue but with his injury you just never know.

Thankfully I feel like this team is extremely deep in plug and play players so I feel like somebody should be able to fill his role short term at least

The size on defense and in goal really gives them a sense of stability. OEL, Tanev, even Timmins now give them some guys who can defend with length and sprint a puck out of trouble. That aspect is really different this year.
The defense is really good now. That combined with solid goaltending.

On their "on" nights I never worry about them losing, or even worry about the odd goal against. They can smoothly get through the 3rd period like it's nothing.

If Hakanpaa can play too, Toronto will do serious damage.

Kudos Berube/Treliving!

Montreal is weaker than they've been in a while. They're really bad. Very uninspired hockey.

They have an absolutely terrible team. I'm genuinely shocked at how many of their fans expected them to be even half way decent this year.

The cold hearted truths is rebuilds are ugly, and take an awful lot of luck to get things going the right way. And they really don't have the high end talent required to lead their team out of the gutter

It's their old culture that always bugs me.

Even the vibe of the modified Big 4 with Matthews out (short term) feels fresher. Marner and Nylander connect better, Tavares seems more energized. Sometimes a shakeup can be nice and they are responding well to adversity. We'll need Matthews to come back fresh and plug in, hopefully they can take it to the next level.

Always nice beating the Habs. They are not a good team.

The team defensive structure is solid, but I thought that Montreal had too much zone time in our end on 5-on-5. Our forecheck wasn’t great today, and breakouts weren’t crisp. Glad to see Berube give it to them in the 3rd. Special teams made the difference and Woll was solid when we needed him.

Hopefully Patches isn’t out too long.

The QC
Berube was fuming in the 3rd because Leafs were playing a little too much in their own zone even with a 4-1 lead

There is a difference for sure
Imagine the team playing like they have the past two games WITH Matthews. That would be Chef's Kiss imo.

Berube is focused in on exactly the lazy play we all hate and have been berrating for years.

I also believe instilling this style now, will enable the guys to feel comfortable come playoff time. Does it make a difference? Guess we'll see. That and competent goaltending should!

Anyway, will enjoy the ride to April for now.

Well, that was certainly one of the hockey games this season.

Montreal might be worse than San Jose. That was ugly
They are easily a bottom 5 (i.e lottery) team.

Woll strong. PP scores two. Marner weaving magic out there. Tavares and Nylander solid. OEL and Tanev keeping the defence under control. Timmins continues to impress.

Still disappointed with Domi, Holmberg, Reaves, and Benoit.
