i think i like joe and hyman on the top 2 lines, hyman would look good with tavares and nylander imo, or if they switch its fine too

vesey and especially simmonds looks like 4th liners and spot 3rd when needed...shouldnt be playing above when robertson healthy

Remember this when some idiot in the media rants about how the Leafs cant win tight games or dominate games.

I don't really agree. Even with the bad old roster they shut down Tampa Bay pretty definitively (before the Covid-19 shutdown). They have the capability to play this way, but when they don't it's indicative of a lack of focus. They have to do this more often than not, and then crucially in the playoffs as well.

I enjoyed watching that game from start to finish (once I got rid of that terrible Jets broadcast I was forced to watch).

Great effort!! Controlled most of that game, gifted them their goal. Even when it got to 2-1 there were not very many scrambly-leafy-moments if any.

MOAR please

Some observations:
  • Willie's effort was less than stellar :thumbd:
    • JT can drop the high offensive zone backhand play :thumbd:
      • All the D played well imo, though Muzzin was teetering on trouble :thumbu:
        • I still say there is something wrong with Mikheyev's wrist
          • Matthews is on our team... wow :D
            • I like Spezza as a Leaf, even 37yr old Spezza
              • I don't know how to use lists :ha:

Good post, agreed. You can tell when they are focused because they aren’t sitting back waiting for the game to happen. Those are the nights when the gaps are huge and the opponents have all day to score.

Matthews threw 2.7% of his career hits in this game.

And fans are clamoring for Hyman to be on the first line... ...what alternative universe did I step into?

I know we won and all but Rielly has been very underwhelming so far this season. I'm starting to wonder that maybe finding him a partner isn't the issue but that he might be. He has all the tools but low iq and is a tire fire defensively

The thing about Vesey is he is a really good off-the-puck player right now. You don't notice him much, but his smart players are huge for allowing Nylander and Tavares to sustain pressure in the zone as much as they do. I wouldn't take him off of that line until he proves he is not capable of keeping up, which he definitely is right now.

What a joke that Connor got a star over Hellebuyck. I feel like Helle gets zero media attention. Even tonight it was all about Laine being out, Connor and a bit about Stanley. Barry mentioned the person who kept it from being a 5-1 blowout.

Yeah the Jets had no business being in that game but, like last year, Hellebuyck kept it close
At least we dominated everything else against a bad team.

Just finished watching.

Feels GREAT man. Just a fabulous game.

5v5 Leafs with 71.6% xGF to 28.4% for WPG. 60 CF% to 40. Scoring chances in 2nd period alone were 25 - 6. Just utterly dominant.

The team defense was excellent, Andersen just had to make a few decent saves. This is exactly how they have to play EVERY game. Wow.

The PP was special to watch in limited time. Leafs should've easily had about 4+ power-plays. The way this game was reffed was to Jets favour.

However great teams find a way to fight through adversity. There wasn't a single player I didn't like tonight. A complete effort everywhere.

TOP 4 defensemen were smooth and very effective. A couple hiccups from the team near the end of periods if I'm nitpicking. Only area to fix.

Laine missing really showed for Jets, but the score absolutely favours the Jets. No business being in this game. Hellebuyck was really good.

I'm watching this game again.

I had to chuckle when we threw Bogosian out with Lehtonen.

We’ve had 1 defenceman that plays the right side for for like 5 years and suddenly we have two playing as a pair lol.
