How come Kadri hasn't been in the shootout? Isn't he one of our best shootout specialists? I cringed when I saw Lupul and Clarkson in there. Surprised Lupul scored lol..

I think you gotta go with Bozak but I'm sure Holland would be happy on the 3rd. line, with Raymond and Kulemin.

I think it ultimately ends up as Bozak on the 1st, Holland on the 3rd (center or wing), I just want to give it a try :P Switch it up half way through the first game for all I care if it isn't working.

Lupul has actually been pretty good in shootouts as a Leaf. I'd say after Bozak, he has the best shootout percentage.

Anyone else feel like tonight's game had very few hits or at least from the Leafs? I don't think there was one hit thrown by a Leaf that got the crowd riled up even a bit. It just seemed really quiet tonight until the middle of the 3rd.

Too close to Ottawa and Montreal
That shouldn't be particularly unpopular right now.

How many games has Holland played with Kessel and van Riemsdyk, compared to how many Bozak has played.

Holland probably still trying to figure out how to play with them.

Holland has been fine as a place holder and there is plenty of promise. He is not Bozak and Bozak is the engine that allows Kessel and JVR to run.

Lupul is better on the shootout than kadri.

Still doesn't answer my question. Kadri has great stickhandling and can deke goalies out of their shorts. I haven't seen him at all this season in a shootout and they are sticking in guys like Clarkson and Lupul who is more of a guy who scores goals off the rush or in tight not a guy known for stickhandling and dekeing.

Is Carlyle trying to send him a message or is he seeing something in him from practice??

I think the Clarkson shooting was because he was having a good game. Way for Carlyle to reward him for that and put a hot hand in there.

IIRC Clarkson hasn't shot for us in any of the other shootouts this year?

I only saw the last half of the game so I didn't see the full scope of effectiveness of this pairing. So I'm in no position to judge it. I just flat out feel Ranger is the superior defenseman at literally everything but clearing the front of the net and hitting. However playing with a guy with such sandpaper could be helping Rielly's confidence. I'm a man apart...

Ranger is the superior defenseman for sure, but Fraser plays a very basic game which I think is what helps Rielly the most. He can just focus on his own game, because he knows where Fraser is and what he will do 99% of the time. There is no hesitation in his game then, which I feel there is when he plays with Ranger.

Either way, the pairing should get a better look at. It could be just this game, and in that case I want Fraser on the bench.

Shoot-out stats are at NHL.com in the stats section.

That should clear it up for you.

Kadri hasn't been too great on the shootout last year. That is probably the reason why he is not taking those shots this year. However, Randy should really stop sending Raymond. I rather have Kadri over Raymond for sure!

The first two videos are part of the reason he isn't used. That is his go to, signature move, and it doesn't work anymore because goalies have a book on it. He needs to do more like the 3rd where he uses his creativity if he wants to get used again.

Dion was starting to take decent runs until he got called for.. being held onto after a solid hit. Weak calls like that make players timid because they don't know what will be called next.

Only that 3rd line that people like to label is extremely important for Carlyle cause he line matches it hard to a fault vs the oppositions top line where some nights gets the most TOI of all the lines. With Bolland out Mclement has that role... Holland isn't built for that type of a work load in defensive hockey and will be with the Marlies when Bozak returns.;)

That should clear it up for you.

I don't know how you can quantify or accurately determine the skill of a shooter based solely off %'s.

I mean before tonight Nik Backstrom was 4/4 this season but he missed. Like someone said it's a crapshoot and you send in your most skilled guys. Some players just have down periods and some have up periods but law of averages dictate that the skilled guys have a better chance then the non-skilled guys.

Anyways I'm glad we got the win again and I'm not trying to argue. Just an observation I made, is all.

It's a lot better to watch this team in the shootout this year anyways as opposed to last season, where the only person who was scoring was Bozak.

yeah same here, we were soft as butter tonight. On numerous times I was yelling at my tv "HIT HIM!!" I just don't get how our D-men can just allow the opposition to do whatever they want. All I saw for the most part were stick checks and some rubbing out along the boards, no real physical contact at all. We really have to start laying the body a lot more.

Reimer played amazing!

Clarkson had a good game... in fact, the Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson line was good all game.

The top line looked good also... just a bit unlucky that they didn't manage to get a goal... but they had some great chances.

The third line did an excellent job at shutting down their top line.

The 4th line didn't screw anything up and Smithson looked effective on the PK and faceoff circle.... so that was all good.

Rielly provided some great offensive chances... and Phaneuf was great on defense. Garnder still looks great with the puck.

Though Clarkson played well... I think he's gotta look for the pass more, espeically since he has such quality line mates.

Anyways... great game! Rimier was obviously the star tonight. We've got two really good goaltenders which is pretty amazing. Both our goalies are better than most teams #1 goalies.... both could easily be in the top 10 of goalies you want to have right now.

respect to grabo for coming back after getting cut like that. i've always said that he was a tough guy. But i'm glad he's not on the leafs... he was pretty invisible for the most part.

Indeed. Four games as a Leaf and just eight NHL games this season. I wouldn't consider the hook on a veteran never mind a kid. Bozak only scored one goal his first 13 games as a Leaf and he was a year older. I don't think Holland was brought in to replace Boz of course but if he had done a bit more damage they might give him a better look.

Reimer continues to play his solid game. Sure doesn't look like playoff hockey though.

Really? So if there are two guys sitting on a bench and you have one shot to not lose the game, one of them is a 100% shooter and one of them is a 0% shooter, are you going to say "Hmm, it's a crapshoot, might as well send out the 0% shooter!"

Kadri was 0/5 last year in the shootout.
