What a game. Felt pretty bummed after the tying goal. Reimer was an absolute beast, outstanding! Rielly looked really good. Lupul Kadri Clarkon were great together. Top line generated some chances too.

Great shutdown job on Washington's top line. Ovie's goal was a bad break. I don't blame Phaneuf for not trying to swat it away. Ovie's good enough to turn you inside out there.

Defenders TOI:

M. Fraser 19:15
M. Rielly 19:25
C. Franson 22:18
C. Gunnarsson 22:39
J. Gardiner 23:02
D. Phaneuf 23:31

This is actually a vast improvement over Phaneuf playing 28 minutes. Means Phaneuf isn't as tired end of game.

Don't forget this was an overtime game.

Gunnarsson played the most PK time by far, almost 4 minutes(3:56), Fraser 2:45 was next.

Excellent distribution by Carlyle. This is how it should be on most nights.

Nice game by reimer, but holtby stole a lot of goals from us, could of been a much easier game.

this team is developing into an actual winner. Feels good man.

The hate Ranger gets is ridiculous. I'd far rather him out there on a regular basis than Fraser. Ranger actually has hockey skills.

Phaneuf Gunnarson
Franson Gardiner
Ranger Rielly
Fraser.

I prefer Ranger over Fraser individually as well, but I really like what I saw from the Fraser - Rielly pairing. If they can play this way, then I think Ranger should be our 7th defenseman when everybody is healthy.

Very very good game by Reimer. Can't thank him enough tonight. NHL leader in save %, enough said.

Offense needs to wake up. Refs were meh.

Once Lupul gave us the lead in shootout, I just knew it we were going to win. :yo:

I thought Fraser played his best game this year (not saying much). I still prefer Ranger over him, but Fraser only had a few noticeably bad mistakes.

Part of the reason for that is probably because Phaneuf got that one penalty. The other regulars on the PK getting more to make up for Phaneuf being in the box not being able to log his regular minutes.

Yep, over the season Phaneuf has received 3 seconds more PK time per game than Gunnarsson.

Both are over a minute more than anyone else (defense) and the number 3 guy is Fraser who has played 8 games to the 23 for the top pairing.

This is prolly an unpopular opinion, but Holland really has no business being on that top line. His chemistry with them is very noticeably off. He's not great at pushing the play and making those rush passes that Kessel needs to be successful off the rush.

In fact, I'd prefer Bozak over Holland.

I sound crazy but I'd beg Reimer and Bernier to play together for their whole career. Brings a tear to my eye seeing both of them play so well.

We're damn lucky to have such great goalies...no whiny punk, they just go about their business every single day. Zero controversy.

+1. I'm dreading having to let either go.

I think most Leaf fans would prefer Bozak. Nothing against Holland but he's a stop gap and he's played well for the most part, but he isn't replacing Bozak anytime soon.

That shouldn't be particularly unpopular right now.

How many games has Holland played with Kessel and van Riemsdyk, compared to how many Bozak has played.

Holland probably still trying to figure out how to play with them.

Stellar game by Reimer. Don't think I can sum this game up in just one word though. The amount of shots weren't overly concerning throughout the game but again, the team collapses in their end in the third period and don't play aggressive enough to move the play to the other end of the ice. Best way to avoid giving up the tying goal is to play more in the offensive end rather than getting hemmed in your own end. With that said, Gunnar and Phaneuf (especially) were great tonight. Can't even be mad about the Ovi goal...they were pretty damn good at shutting him down for the most part. Of all of the games I've seen Holtby play like ass, tonight wasn't one of them. He was on his game and made some big stops on what would seem to be easy tip ins. The shut down line was great. Rielly's speed was a sight to behold. Kadri's line was great and especially Clarkson showed a lot of hustle all night. First had some chances as well. Not sure how I feel about this speculation about Kessel's wrist. He's nursed wrist injuries in the past but we usually don't hear about it until the end of the season.

No doubt Reimer earns the next start.

Glad Grabo is okay after that skate to the face. The replays were tough to watch.

What I like though is Holland isn't noticeably bad centering the two either. He is invisible, but with it being an inexperienced guy like him I think that is a compliment to how well he has done. And it got me wondering...When Bozak comes back, would it be better to have our lineup as:
JVR - Holland - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Raymond - Bozak - Kulemin

Gives us that shutdown line still with Bolland still out. The reason I would want to give this a try is because I believe that McClement should play on the 4th line and would rather not have him on the 3rd.

I thought we played well. People are going to look at the 50 shots to say we didn't but I honestly thought at least 25 of those shots were super easy saves for Reimer. That one PP for Washington alone gave them 12 easy shots.

Scoring chances, I think the Leafs had the much better ones, which is what I care about.

Anyway, we got the 2 points. Reimer, Clarkson and Kadri were great I thought. Phaneuf was a rock as well.

How I felt.

I only saw the last half of the game so I didn't see the full scope of effectiveness of this pairing. So I'm in no position to judge it. I just flat out feel Ranger is the superior defenseman at literally everything but clearing the front of the net and hitting. However playing with a guy with such sandpaper could be helping Rielly's confidence. I'm a man apart...

I think you gotta go with Bozak but I'm sure Holland would be happy on the 3rd. line, with Raymond and Kulemin.
