I think they have the capability to be better than what we've seen. At times, we've seen a very good team. In past years, we saw that... I don't know 80-90% of the time. This year, we see it... like 40% of the time. When I say capability, I mean the talent... the heart, and the desire to be the best all of the time, to win at all costs.. that isn't there.

Change is needed for sure though... coach first, then (at least)one of the core needs replacing.

IMO the issue with the 3 amigos is "effort". They rely too much on skill and less on actually outworking their opponent. Tavares is done IMO; dude can't keep up with the pace of the game.

When the 3 amigos are skating hard, the rest of the team automatically does. This year like you said its been less and less and less.

When the 3 amigos decide to show up skating hard and winning puck battles Leafs are not an easy out.

Personally especially when we don't have the last change I'd actually prefer 3 amigos on three different lines

Holmberg-Matthews-Jankrok
Robertson/Knies-Domi-Marner (yea shorty line but whatever...)
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Nylander (this line has been really productive except a few outliers here and there)

about equal TOI even strength with the line that is really going getting relatively speaking a bit more TOI

We need Marner to drive the line on his own desperately!
Thats why I liked last game's lines. Force Marner to carry 2 players. I'm already expecting Keefe to saddle Matthews and Marner together for this game

I was supposed to go to this game but the way they're playing this season it's not worth the travel, especially in this weather.
Hope they win but unfortunately expect another feeble effort.

Agreed. Fire Keefe today, and re-evaluate in the summer. Marner's the only one we can move on from having locked in the others with NMC's so that's a good reason to fire Keefe now - give the team one last chance to show what they can do with a new coach before deciding to move on from Marner in the summer.

Prediction - we will move a 1st or a top prospect for immediate help, then fail in the playoffs again, then sign Marner for 12.5 million or so anyway, naturally with a full NMC thereby locking in the entire loser core for years to come. Basically, we should prepare ourselves for another decade of irrelevance.

I fervently hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid that this is the most likely scenario. Management decisions made by inertia ...

The only way Leafs can sustain having 3 11+ AV players and create some kind of quality depth is by having them drive their own lines else you shutdown one line and then its game over.

Matthews-Marner got shutdown in the playoffs and then it was lights out for the Leafs. It also becomes very easy for opposition to concentrate on just one line.

Penguins had Crosby, Malkin and Kessel on three different lines when they won their first cup for the B2B cups. Leafs have no option but to have 3 amigos on 3 different lines driving their own lines and generating offense creating match up problems for opposition; if not; then one of them has gotta go IMO in a trade

Noting, I agree that Marner would be the one to go, but also that Marner also has a NMC... which could make this difficult.

If Treliving pulls a Dubas for throwing away draft capital for another first round exit or 2nd round embarassment given the weak defnese and weakness in goal I am gonna lost my mind more on Tre than I did on dubas

this is not the season to gamble draft capital with JT getting worse by the game. That 11 AAV that could be put to better use when he is off the cap; until then Leafs MUST hold on to draft capital and top prospects no matter what

Don’t be so sure. They will probably give JT 5 or 6 million dollars to stay X 3 years with a full NMC.

The only current roster players on this team that don't have some form of NTC/NMC (excluding players on their ELC) are Liljegren, Timmins and the goalies.

So even if Brad decided this team isn't good enough he can't even be a seller at the deadline w/o asking at least a few players to waive.

To be fair though, the Leafs aren't the only team that hand out NTCs like candies these days, they just may be the team with the most "unmovable" roster right now.

Lol what is this. Marner scored playing with Bert but he’s back with Matthews

Perfect call

I make it a point not to miss Leafs games or NFL playoff games, even if it means PVRing and watching late.

The past few days have been killer. This west coast swing couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm exhausted!

Might have to quit my job to keep up.
