Aren’t Woll and McCabe signed already for 3+ years ?

Knies needs a new deal

By signing Tavares for 7 you lessen the chance to add to the lineup with better players. I really like Bennett and he would change our top 6 quite a bit. Need another Defenceman also in the top 4
Deals kick in next year.

Where there is smoke there is fire so I'm guessing 3x$7m is all but a done deal.

Bennett's stock went up after the 4 Nations but if he wants to come home at a reasonable cap hit, I'd be very interested. This core is made up of 4 similar, soft players and a Bennett definitely brings what they lack. I'd take younger Bennett at a higher cap hit over Tavares but I don't mind having both if they can make the money work.

McCabe and Woll are due for $5+m in raises. Probably going to have to give Lorenz a few extra pennies.

Mitch can leave if he wants $13.5m. Seriously, how can anybody think he deserves more money than 34?
Lotentz is a dime a dozen player. I wouldn’t resign him. You’ll get the next Lorentz for league minimum next year.

I'd keep Lorentz if he willing to take a small increase rather than look for another cheaper Lorentz. They do need to move Kampf, Jarnkrok, Robertson, and Reaves out. Let's see who is left after the TDL. Hopefully Tre wakes up soon as there is less than 2 weeks to go.

McCabe and Woll are already signed so they are already accounted for. Lorenz was accounted for in the PTO, League minimum and ELC pool.
I don't think he is worth more than 34 but I can see him getting that with the cap increases coming.

1st let me restate, I think Marner is a good player. Having said that, people say JT is way overpaid no way he was worth the 11 million we paid him and they claim even 7 is too much
Since he’s been here
JT averaged 29 goals 66 points per year (counting this season as a full year which weighs the numbers down a little)
Marner has avareged 24 goals and 82 points ( counting this season as a full year..)
So for 5 goals less and 16 points more he supposedly is worth more than 4 million more than JT and that’s without a raise.

Sure Mitch plays on the pk
Sure JT is the top 5 in winning board battles and also top 10 in face offs.

Even if you compare season by season the most points Marner has ever beaten JT by is this season 26 , before the most was 21, and only twice in the 7 years did Marner score more goals

Yep thats the Mitch stand, JT took 4 million less how much less will Mitch take?
Different contracts, when JT was Marner career stage, he maxed out every penny.

He is nowhere close to retiring.

How the hell would you know what he does or does not want?
Because everything I've read said he wants to stay here, his wife and family are well entrenched. He's home dude, get off the outrage posture.

Their cap hits this year and next are not the same. Not sure you accounted for the difference.

The way I see it, JT @ 7m (-4m) + MM @ 13m (+2m) + Knies @ 5m (+4m) + McCabe @ 4.5m (+2.5m) + Woll @ 3.67m (+2.7m) = +7.2m additional cap space needed just to run back the same roster.

If Cap rises $8m (87.5 to 95.5) that gives you $800K for upgrades. Good luck.

Their salaries are accounted for. With the Cap increase of 7.5 mil the Leafs will have approx 32.5 mil to 35 mil ( the dicrepancies is for salaries being counted that might not be counted next year like Matt Benning and bonus money) available before resigning MM,JT or Knies. So using your numbers they will have 7.5 to 9 million available with out moving any salaries.( I think you are too high on Kines for a bridge deal).

I mean he starts off with not even having this years cap number right. Math is clearly not a strong suit.
Rise in cap $8m

Tavares $11m to $7, -4m

Marner $10.893 to $13m +2.1m
Woll 900K to $3.67m +2.7m
Knies $1m to $5m +4m
McCabe $2m to $4.5m +2.5m

Gain $8m + $4m = $12m
Loss/raises 2.1+2.7+4+2.5=$11.3m

Difference = +700K (approx).

What wrong with my math?

1 to 6M for Knies is a 5M jump, no?

Typo Knies (6 should be 5) is $5m which is a $4m raise.

Loss/raises Marner 2.1+ Woll 2.7+ Knies 4+ McCabe 2.5=$11.3m

Cap increase $8m - Tavares paycut $4m = $12m

No idea where he gets 7.5 to 9 million available without moving any salaries. I must be playing 2D checkers while he is playing 3D chess.

Please google one of the Cap sites pike Puckpedia ( most inaccurate), HockeyBuzz, or one of the others now that there is no Cap friendly. You will see that you are missing approx. 7 to 8 million with your math.

You might be right. I just don't see it when the cap is only rising 8m and we save $4m on JTs cap hit and have to deal with raises to 60, 16, 23 and 22. I'll check it out when I have some time.
