This is seriously insane shit. You keep saying this shit like it doesn’t happen regularly. All of a sudden sample sizes don’t matter?

It’s ok to admit this team is not what we thought it would be. No one is going to make you revoke your devils fandom card.
You’re right. Panic time because they lost to the Dallas Stars in a tough fought game. If Dougie Hamilton finishes one of like 5 glorious chances, they would have had a shot of knocking off Carolina in a couple months. You can kiss that goodbye now.

I don’t even get why you display any frustration since you’ve known, for many weeks, that the team is no good. That’s that then. Why care so much? It’s over, and a deadline deal isn’t changing things for this fundamentally broken team.

Yes, I’m aware, and do not care one bit. If you think that game should be lumped in with the ever expanding stretch of “playing bad” that you like to reference, then that’s your prerogative.

One of the guys that can’t finish on this poorly constructed team has scored 40 goals in a season. The defenseman that can’t score has put in 22.

There is something profoundly stupid about the bolded, I can’t even find the words to respond.
Of course you think it’s profoundly stupid. As opposed to insisting that repeated patterns of performance are not indicative of…performance.

We have three really good forwards who are really good at creating chances, but are average at finishing. And then a remaining cast of characters who all fall short of where we need them to be. Those top guys know that if they aren’t generating no one else is, so they are throwing everything they got every friggin night during the dog days of the season. Hence we are capable of generating chances but are wildly inconsistent in producing actual goals. Not that hard to understand, it’s right there in our faces when we watch the games.

Third line is one of the worst in the league. They contribute virtually nothing. We have guys who are playing higher up in the lineup than they should be. Palat is not a top six forward. Noesen is a really good third line player but not top six on a team that fancies itself a serious contender. Haula is a complete joke as 3C and Mercer….don’t get me started on him. He’s by far the most disappointing player on this team the last two season. Done with him. Cotter is what he is and that’s a good fourth liner but not really a third line player.

If Meier isn’t scoring (8.8 million dollars for a 22 goal pace), Jack, Bratt and Nico are the only ones you can consistently count on. Our secondary scoring is pitiful and not a recipe for success come playoff time.

I watched Fitz’ presser after his big offseason moves and he wasn’t concerned about our forward group, nor did he think we really needed a top six forward that badly. He’s done good work on the whole but he’s also over-corrected, as well (sacrificing team speed for heavier style players). This team had an identity two seasons ago with its relentless swarming shift after shift due to speed up and down the lineup. What even is our identity anymore?! The next two weeks are critical and if Fitz doesn’t get us significant help, it’s time to really question whether he truly is the right man for the job.

So you gonna use this kind of reasoning to poo poo other teams? If every significant player on the Caps wasn’t shooting 15-20% combined with elite goaltending, they wouldn’t be good.

There’s just something funny about saying if this team wasn’t really good at generating offense, they’d be terrible. Yeah, well fortunately, they do generate lots of offense.

Also not hard to keep pointing to stats in the first half of the season when Noesen and Cotter were chipping in with career thirds of their season, when that goalscoring dried up all of a sudden we were top heavy. Without even Dougie scoring, even more top heavy without much support from the D on goals. But sure it's just luck we don't score.

I already know it’s more likely for me to get slings and arrows for this, but I thought they had a very good game today effort and strategy wise. They deserved a better fate tonight.

That said, I hated the first goal against. I hated the penalty call that lead to our second goal against. I despised the third goal against. We seem to find ourselves punching walls more often than not. Constantly fighting the opponent and ourselves.

I never lose faith, but it’s hard to not be frustrated.

Where does the puckmoving or offense come from on any other pairing? Granted Dougie's not that great offensively these days either.
Well Pesce-Kovy is already a pair and is your shutdown. Casey/Nemec-Dillion is the sheltered 3rd pair that get limited minutes. With Siegs out you don’t have three balanced pairings.

I don’t think it’s just luck. We’re obviously missing a few goals in the bottom 6 purely because of a lack of talent. That’s what Fitz is going to try to fix.

That doesn’t mean you should expect to lose all the 50/50 games we’ve lost this year. A game like this is decided by a bounce or two. You don’t want to hear it, but that’s how it is.

They still have elite top end talent with some of the strongest goaltending and defense in the NHL. You get zero points for peaking at this time of year.

More like 0-1, where was the goal they took from us in addition to giving them one?
At the time my thought was one of the close NJ chances should have gone in but whatever. They ultjmalty lost this one on their own merits but maybe it plays out differently if they call that penalty before the Dallas PPG.

This seems to always happen when Frank is at games. He might be the actual problem

You say this after every loss as if the nearly two months of middling play hasn’t happened.

Simon Nemec has been the worst player in the NHL this season.

It is time for Seamus Casey or Hatakka if they want a player more in the Siegenthaler mold.
Would be prudent for his agent to tell him to keep his f***ing mouth shut about being sent to the AHL when he's inevitably sent down again.

He's not an NHL player. Extremely disappointing, looking like a bad pick.

It's amazing how far Nemec has fallen in the eyes of many Devils fans here.

Remember when I was pounding the table (along with a few others) for Shane Wright?

Good times.
Well it's not like he's been a star yet, but that was certainly a pick that put Fitz on the clock in terms of hope you know what you're doing buddy. And to be fair last year it looked like he did when Nemec started and Wright barely played his first two seasons in the NHL. It's not just drafting that needs to be questioned though, our actual development program needs to be examined when you have guys like Mercer and Nemec start out well then regress.

Looks like our development program has a couple of Rogalski's there, too.

Not just our goaltending. :sarcasm:
