if the guy's only choice of pass has to go through the crease and under the goalie, then the dman has done his job.

With the amount of time you spend on here one would think you'd know more about hockey

too bad that bad pinch by Franson ruined the period. otherwise it was maybe the best defensive period of the year.

Carlysle hockey at its best. Two shots on goal per third, eh?! Defensive responsibility my ***. Hope that Randy gets his team to invest more into some offense.

Problems so far:
* Forwards not helping out well enough on the breakout (still).
* Lines not working as a unit, there is not a single line that seems in sync.
* Easy to read. We need shots on goal and net presence, not just half-assed cycling or looking for passes that has a 5% chance of working.
* Franson.

Dont worry guys. We will get 5 shots on goal but we will go on to the win the game 2-1.

Its all part of the plan

Anyone else frustrated that Phaneuf plays left point on the powerplay and Franson right. Flip the two and they will be able to get off more shots, especially one timers, and will be easier to pass.

This is a bad hockey team.

I spent quite a bit of my free time studying up on Fenwick and Corsi (I suggest you do too) and you will notice that even though Fenwick isn't iron clad proof, almost ALL good teams have good statistics.

I was not a believer but it's definitely compelling evidence.

This team is not going to make the playoffs if they play like this. I think we're headed towards a top 10 pick and it would be best to send Rielly down if this is the train wreck he will have to witness.

This team plays like three different teams

Offense does what they want and doesn't help the D. Defense does what it wants and doesn't help the goaltender, goaltender saves us and we get 2 points, goaltender doesn't save us and we lose two points.

Other than that, I thought we played OK. One bad break and they scored on it. We have to play better than this though. Just OK after being really bad the last 2 is not good for us.

Agreed. Despite the offensive woes, that was an excellent period. Giveaways were few and generally not overly dangerous and they were very well positioned defensively on the rush outside of the goal.

If the offense wakes up and the rest of the game the defense stays comparatively as good as it has been so far, this should result in a win.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Looks like they are utterly struggling to even skate the puck through the neutral zone. Other team can just move with ease, but just going on the attack is tough for this group right now. No idea what they are supposed to do here.

What they need to do is spend a good five minutes just forechecking hard and destroying the Ducks blueline with hard hits, just clear the way and so they can't clog things up easily without being challenged. You play the body and soften up that blueline, then you come in with speed again once the way is clear.

Yup... it also makes it harder to pass across the ice. I swear they pass the puck out over the blueline at least once per powerplay. I don't understand why Carlyle hasn't switched them by now.

Don't pay attention to him. He's an irrational Reimer fanboy who goes to absurd lengths to criticize everything Bernier does because his baby's starting position isn't solidified.
