Nothing to do with the bets. I want to see wins cuz I like wins. I don’t want to trade future assets to win now, but I want to see wins. I want them to ice the best roster to win games.

It’s not just the -8. He has one great pass and two nice shots. I suppose a few other good plays but his defensive game is not good enough. I guess the sharks have decided that he stays no matter what but he is definitely contributing to losses far more than wins.

Personally I think gushkin, cardwell, and graf are more nhl ready.

On the bright side, Thompson is proving himself a clear nhlwr. Dick is doing well. Pohlcamp is crushing in Denver, cagnoni is point per game in the cuda. The D of the future looks good….

Is Smith really costing us that many wins though? Yeah, he's had some bad turnovers, but I see Kunin and Goodrow provide scoring chances to other teams every game and they are relied on to be our late game defensive closers for some reason. Smith hasn't been producing offensively like we had hoped, but he is also on the 3rd line consistently with the aforementioned guys. This team is surely not expecting our third line to be an offensive juggernaut.

I don't know if Smith will develop better on the big club or the minors. I just watch games, smarter hockey people are paid a lot of money to decide that. But, I don't think Smith being in the lineup for 10-15 minutes a game is the reason we are only 5-9-3 and not one of the best teams in the league. If wins is the goal, sending Smith down isn't going to spark some long winning streak.

Accelerate it by trading Smith for some veteran D help.
Timo. He had a nice goal last night.

The Sharks desperately need to try someone else on the first line Dellandrea is not it. I want them to do Eklund there and then slot Smith on the Granlund line but if they don’t want to break the Lund line up, you gotta try Smith with Celebrini. Sadly I think Warso is going to go with Dellandrea/Kunin/Goodrow on that first line

Oh... man our rebuild is.... it's dark at the end of this tunnel
It seems like you enjoy drama, but this a monster stretch of a "woe is me".

"Our rebuild is in jeopardy because 19yo Will Smith is struggling in his 15th NHL game". Not on board with these sentiments.

It's going to be a long season if people make it a long season. Let's all agree not to make it long.

The rebuild didn't even start until Meier was traded too, so it hasn't even been that long. Not like any rebuilding teams that started after us are passing us already.

Defnitely a lot of woe is me around this parts for a team that is 6 points better than they were at this point last season and with a prospect pool that looks a lot more exciting than it did last year. Its a little strange cause it felt that everyone agreed that we were going into this season as well as firm favourites for the best lottery odds again.

Yeah fair. What I said is a bit reactionary. I want him and Mack l, and any of our young guys to excel. It's just rough out there

Will Smith = Tank Commander. There is nothing wrong with that. He is out there learning every NHL game. and we might get a good 1st round pick at the draft. I see nothing is wrong with that.

Not acceptable to lose every game but they are playing better and very entertaining game lately. I'm happy with their progress and more importantly not winning every game so we can get in place for a good draft pick.

Guys, this is a development year. Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini are babies. The fact that we’re not dead last is a miracle. They’re 15 games in, if your expectation was that Smith and Celebrini would immediately take over the league you had ridiculous expectations.

I still think Celebrini wins the Calder.

I will say we badly miss Walman

I want to see more of Walman, Liljegren, Thompson, and Thrun. Even though Thrun was awful before the last couple games, he’s still developing too. I want less of Ceci, Ferraro, and Rutta.

Yes, but look at it comparatively to other teams.

Anaheim - has been bad / in rebuild mode for years and showing 0 signs of improving. Carlsson looks like the only surefire "hit" of their draft pool.

Columbus - has been rebuilding for years and has almost nothing to show for it. Johnson is hospital bracelet, Jiricek is unhappy, and Fantilli's progress is slower than Carlsson's and Michkov's (super early on this, but still)

Montreal - just today on 32 Thoughts they were discussing tanking the year, again. AGAIN. If they get a top pick, both he and Demidov won't be heuge contributors for another 3+ years....

Philly - The worst type of Mushy Middle: on the low end where they can't even tank correctly. They've been bad for years and are actually trending down.

Chicago - We're a year behind them w/r/t rebuild timeline and are coming up on "passing" them if we havent already. Having Askarov is a major benefit they don't have.

OTT/BUF/DET - these teams are all well into their rebuilds and they seem to have all failed. I think one of these teams will make the playoffs this year, but there's a chance all three don't and are thus in a worse position than we are.

That's 8 "bad" teams that I think we are "healthier" than w/r/t where we are in our respective timelines. Plus, this year has been going as planned. I too would like Smith to pick it up a little faster, but there also is no rush.

I think a big key is also tanking at the right time, and some of that is luck. The Sharks tanking the year Celebrini was a surefire #1C at the top of the draft worked out really nicely. Imagine if they bottomed out this year instead where you have a few very solid prospects at the top of the draft and no Celebrini level prospects.

So uhh.... How do you read those charts?
The nearest I've been able to discern is that big long lines on the right are good and big long lines on the left are bad. I can barely distinguish the different colors they use and what they mean though, so it's pretty much just how big and long the lines are for me.

I don't take them to be terribly authoritative, but it's grist for the mill.
