This is likely the end of Keefe’s tenure in Toronto. Safe to say that Shanahan is likely out as well.

The new management is going to have to put goaltending as a number one priority. Even if you have to trade Marner to get a starting goalie, then you do it. It is absolutely embarrassing for the city of Toronto. Samsonov and Woll are just awful.
They need to go out and acquire Saros this off-season.

Sadly, I'd be surprised if any of this occurs. It's been 6 years of it already with barely any change.

I'm all for moving on from Shanahan, Keefe, Marner, Tavares, and our Goalies though.

This is exactly why stats are useless .. whoever puts jt and holmberg ahead of matty in level of play in that game makes me lol .. kampf was good last night .. matty played even steven hockey .. and lines 2 and 3 got destroyed with speed
8 min of penalties (10 total) on the top line is good with zero goals? Who got put in the box before 2 powerplay goals?
Domi and Bert played like idiots. Matthew penalty not great but it happens.

Even if you believe those charts, they all ignore the most important position on the ice....
I ignore nothing. I hated our goaltending

With the new upper brass coming in, I guess it is possible there can be a change.

Meh. They will find the balance in game 2.

Boston won't win 4 games if Leafs keep hitting them like this.

It's our first time playing heavy in the playoffs like this. They got a little carried away with it. They'll re-group and refine for the next game. They didn't do a good job balancing the physical with some skill.

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Domi need to prioritize the possession and cycle game they seem to have mastered together to end the season. They focused too much on being rats.

The team that wins the Cup will lose some stinkers. Count this as one of the stinkers.

We let our emotions get the better of us with careless penalties that ultimately cost us the game.

Turn the page and come out more disciplined next game.

I never said they were good .. clearly they need to net us 2 goals for .. matty missed an open net and bert was very unlucky on a tip which sway just got lucky on .. but when those 3 were on ice we had a chance to win ..when lines 2 and 3 were on ice bruins dominated play and we got tilted in possession .. and yes all 3 had terrible penalties which is likely why stats make them look worse then they were

We just need saves from those outside shots. We lost to Carlo and Debrusk?! Come the F on.

Line 1 just needs to cut out those stupid high sticks and slashes.
This sums up game 1.

1.) Debrusk and Carlo aren't snipers. Those can't go in. Non-existent reactions from Ilya to these shots. If you limit a team to outside shots from their non-star players, you should win that series easily.

2.) Sorry Matthews but you guys played like ass. Skill first, goon second. Treliving built the D to pummel and troll Boston and Florida. Line 1 is built to be hard to play against -- but from an offensive standpoint.

But that isn't true at all. There was more puck possession on the JT line and they weren't being shifted in for offensive zone faceoffs unlike Matthews. Try again or watch again.

Hopefully they can find the right balance. They always lose game one to BOS badly (well, except one year when they won 4-1 surprisingly). If they can get the split, they won't be in bad shape. If they're going to lose, I at least want them wearing that team down as much as possible and exposing them five on five.

I was sitting 10 rows back behind leaf bench .. i heard keefer telling mitch and jt to pick up your pace boys .. pick up your pace .. drive down to boston and watch and listen for yourself

We lost, but for sure Boston is waking up with more bruises than us.

Bertuzzi is awesome. He does all those little goon plays in the corner that refs allow you to get away with in the playoffs. We've never had this luxury before. Every time the camera zoomed in on him in the corners, he was doing something to hurt the opponent.

The high stick is something they don't let you get away with though, but his heart was in the right place. His goal wasn't to goon, he was trying to crash the net.

Then even with his penalty , he still snuck in an additional goon play on Lindholm that the refs turned a blind eye too. "This penalty annoys me....eat this glove for having your face by my stick"

We need to re-sign him.

The Leafs are officiated against a different standard that impedes their ability to play like this. The Bruins committed as many or more penalties and were not called. These were the least bias refs they will see. It will only get worse.

Nah the refs are letting us play physical. Leafs can steam roll these guys if they want.

No team in the league is getting away with high sticks, obvious hooking and slashes to the players bone. We can't cry over those.

Reaves fully boarded a guy in a physical battle along the boards and ref was like sorry something was in my eye I didn't see it. Treliving built a physical team overall and it gained the refs respect in terms of physical playoff play. We just need to cut out the stupid obvious penalties.

1) Marner needs to play like an 11M player, or at least a 7M player

2) Samsonov needs to be better

3) Get Jarnkrok off PP1, guy hasn't played in months and Keefe sticks him on the top unit, 3mins of PP time ?

4) No dumb penalties. Looking at Domi.

5) 4th line needs to play responsible, making a hit on a guy behind the play, while the puck is advancing to your zone isn't tough, it's just stupid. Looking at Reaves.

6) Special teams. 60% PK and 0% PP is a recipe for disaster. The drop pass on the PP makes me want to punch my tv lmao.

7) Lily needs to play tougher, he was physically dominated the entire night.

8) Get bodies in front of Swayman. If he sees the puck, he's gonna stop it. Same strategy we used with Vasi, bodies in front and take away his vision.

9) Don't play the 4th line and 3rd pair together like that, please Keefe.

10) It's a long series, if there's a game to lose it was that 1. It's game 1 on the road without Nylander, brush it off and prepare for the next one.

Looked Good:
- Bertuzzi, Benoit, Knies, Kampf, Reaves

Looked Awake:
- Matthews, Tavares, Domi, Liljegren, Jarnkrok

Invisible:
- Marner, Rielly, Edmundson, Robertson

Rough Night:
- McCabe, Lyubushkin, Holmberg, Samsonov (Had his moments)

Bert - Matthew’s - Domi
McMann - JT - Marner
Jarnkrok/Robertson - Holmberg - Nylander
Knies - Kampf - Dewar

Rielly - Brodie
Benoît - McCabe
Edmundson - Lilly

Woll

Domi and Bert were signed for this. Now it’s time to step up

Domi and Bert on a team with superstars firing on all cylinders would be pretty good. A bad high stick from Bert and some roughing from Domi, but if you measure them against what a Brandon Hagel is doing or the Bennett, Cousins stuff, they’re doing what they’re supposed to.

I thought Robertson had some good and some bad too. Had a few flashes in the Boston end, gave Pastrnak a bit of lumber but also for drilled by Geekie (uncalled) which turned into a minute plus cycle in the Leaf end.
