tough start to the series, but they will settle in and adapt and make this a series. No need to throw in the towel yet, it’s just game one. I understand the frustration, but you have to stay positive and believe they can figure this out. If you can’t, just turn off the tube.

Simply put, it wasn’t a clean game for them. We’ve seen this many times to start a series, and we shouldn’t be surprised based on how they limped into the playoffs. They always need time to elevate their game for the playoffs. If we win game 2, which we are capable of, we have the upper hand in the series. We’ve been good on the road this season.

It’s only one game so I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself but after one game it’s literally what we all expected… Matthews 0 goals, Marner invisible, blueline and goaltending sucked.

Hopefully we can get Nylander and McMann back in the lineup sooner than later.

I'd like to think there's going to be lineup changes on the back end for game 2.

Brodie in for someone at the very least, he's not the best puck mover, but he's better then one of Edmunsson/Boosh. I would probably put him in for Boosh tbh.

I was sitting 10 rows back behind leaf bench .. i heard keefer telling mitch and jt to pick up your pace boys .. pick up your pace .. drive down to boston and watch and listen for yourself
I live in Boston, welcome.

Don't listen to what people tell you about this place. Except the cost of living and the shitty city layout, both of those are completely true.

I have never once been treated poorly as a Leafs fan here. Worst I've received is curiosity.

I typed out a sour WWE Leafs script before the game and they managed to keep to it. Basically offensive no shows by Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Rielly, Sammy terrible in net, lopsided special teams by the officials and it literally all happened. Basically all the bad vibes from the NJ, Detroit, Florida and Tampa games all carried over.

I remember reading it and it being spot on…

Not sure why the team kept trying to force the puck to Matthews… I get 70 is quite the accomplishment but he got to 69 without the team making stupid plays. I honestly think he would have had a better chance to hit 70 if the team wasn’t forcing every puck to him, it made guarding him or knowing what the next play was very predictable and worked against us and Matthews.

Thanks i am staying with my wifes sister in lyme conn and commuting to games 1 and 2 .. i used to live in conn for a few years so been to fenway and old gardens and recently to new td garden on same playoff trip we took before covid ..i wore by matty jersey and my bro in law wore his orr jersey and we had no issues in game 1 .. although he knows nothing about hockey we shared some dinner celebrating our huskies big east champs and then repeat big dance champs .. congrats to bruins in game 1 .. da better team won irrespectice of officiating which i tgought was not right

Take our chances with Ilya finding his game.

Bruins will have a field day in the crease and along the boards if both Lil and Brodie play. As it stands now, you need to accept bruises if you go behind our net with the puck.

If all Bruins have is those Carlo and Debrusk shots...they're not winning this series

Matthews and Marner need to step up and provide a flow to our skill game. The game impact will be enormous

Sadly, I'd be surprised if any of this occurs. It's been 6 years of it already with barely any change.

I'm all for moving on from Shanahan, Keefe, Marner, Tavares, and our Goalies though.
Just to set expectations, Tavares is not going anywhere and most likely resigns at a low cap hit and moves down the lineup.

The contract situation almost guarantees Marner as the odd man out. Bad timing for him, but also probably the best thing for all involved.

Shanny and Keefe walk the plank for sure.

I'd bring Will back.

You can see Bruins are keeping the puck to the outside then flinging it on net in a "cross your fingers" approach. The PP was the only instance they had actual time to place shots. But you can say that for any team in the league.

This defeatist approach is getting old. We lost, but the evidence of a series win overall is there. Let's see how they adjust for game 2 however it will be a shame if they cut down on the physicality.

We're not going to get a clean 16 win cup run. There will be ugly moments for all participating teams

Our PK being horrible isnt a 1 game thing in playoffs

We suck at killing penalties almost every playoffs

Heck boston in 2019 won b/c of an elite PP and our shitty PK

They won yesterday as well due to 2 PP goals to put game out of reach

They have worse talent than us but there PPs still run a lot smoother and flow mucb better.

Pk has to be better as does our PP

Step 1 is taking Tavares off the PP

He is to slow to carry a puck in, he makes bad decisions as 1st man to recieve pass on zone entry (eoother a drop back to rielly which is read and cleared, or he tries to ring around to other side), and his days of being a huge front net /bumper threat are done basically

We should run 16, 34, 59, 11 and 44 PP1 if Nylander is out game 2 again

Tavares role has to be reduced heavily if we want to win this series

Hes the 5th or 6th best center on the ice (Matthews, zacha, Coyle, Frederik, Domi if we move him there) are better players who can work with their wingers than Tavares at this pt

NEXT GAME: IF HEALTHY

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Knies - Jarnkrok* - Nylander
Holmberg* - Kampf - Reaves

Benoit - McCabe
Rielly - - Liljegren
Edmundson - Brodie

Samsonov

PP1:

Matthews, Marner, Domi, Bertuzzi & Rielly

PP2:

Tavares, Nylander, Jarnkrok, Knies/McMann & Liljegren

Leaf social media is honestly exhausting at this time of year. I am all about firing people IF and WHEN we lose. 1 lost game and people can't wait to have their shitty takes validated and non Leaf fans troll us so hard it winds up these same folks even more.

Leafs haven't scored more than 2 goals in eight straight playoff games. Last time was the 4-1 comeback vs Tampa.

Bert-AM-Domi
Robertson-JT-Knies
Jarnkrok-Holmberg-Marner
Reaves-Kampf-Dewar

If McMann is back:

Bert-AM-Domi
Knies-JT-McMann
Jarnkrok-Holmberg-Marner
Reaves-Kampf-Dewar

If both McMann and Nylander are back:

Bert-AM-Domi
Knies-JT-McMann
Nylander-Jarnkrok-Marner
Reaves-Kampf-Dewar

Team needs offense .. Matthews' has been his best with Domi and Bert. Tavares was at his best with two young speedy wingers .. Put Nylander and Marner together to try and generate some depth scoring.

They will be a LOT better in game 2.

Doesn't mean they'll win the series or even the game, but they do have a tendency to step up when they absolutely have to ... Except in game 7s that is. It's just frustrating that it's the same pattern every year - they can't make it easy on themselves by showing up for game 1 ready to get the win, get the momentum and carry it through.

After all that, I'll say Leafs 5-3. They'll look great early on, take control but then let Bruins back in it. Nail-biter, but a win.

I agree with what you are saying but I always wondered about the bolded part. What does staying positive have any affect on the team? For me win or lose the leafs don’t affect my everyday life. Whether I post something negative or positive once I close the phone my day carries on the same way.

I use the leafs as my hobby and time to talk with others who like the leafs. My job and personal life aren’t affected based on the leafs.

This exactly. There was a dark foreboding before this first game, like we all just knew. The overwhelming vibes were, and still are, this series will be quick, ugly, and frustrating - like you said, the worst script possible. This isn't me fabricating hateful s**t in my mind. The final games of the regular season were the beginning. It's a real big black energy cloud we're actually noticing with our spider sense.

The fact that Boston tanked to get the Maple Leafs and then proceeded to crush them is just the icing on the cake.
