No come on not Kallgren. If there’s any chance of us losing it’s because of weak goaltending. Losing games like this is what caused us to lose the division to Florida last year.

Is Nylander missing tonight with an illness?

Sorry to keep posting on your guys’ board but I have a bunch of Leafs in fantasy

Talk about overthinking it. Early in the season, played on Saturday, don't play again on Thursday, no back-to-backs for another 2 weeks until the end of the month. You run with Samsonov.

Sure, they'll likely win with Kallgren regardless, but really no point in sheltering Samsonov at this point.

Not sure why Samsonov isn't starting. Seems like a weird decision. Leafs don't play until Thursday.

They don't want to wear him out? If Kallgren only plays B2B, he doesn't play until the end of the month... and I would say getting him into a home game against Arizona is about as easy as it gets. Samsonov can probably play the rest of the games except for the two B2B's until Murray gets back.

it seems like it

i haven't seen the remarks from the coach yet. could be considered a game time decision.

Leafs have a tendency to the play to the level of their competition so this feels like a trap game.

Leafs are going to lose.

Really hope Robertson gets a real look tonight. He more then deserved to make the opening night roster and was ultimately just the victim of the numbers game. There is a real opportunity tonight for him to feel good about his game going up against a team that is actively trying to lose as many games as possible. I am never the one to downplay any NHL team, but realistically anything less than 4pts in this season series would be a fail IMO.

Hopefully we don't see Karel Vejmelka-Hasek again tonight. Would really love to see a dominating game from our group.

Every team coming into our building we have to expect will bring their best. It is just the way it is and always has been. We have to come out hot, and get a couple early ones to put any idea of an upset firmly in the rear view mirror.

LET'S GO LEAFS!

Leafs have a tendancy to the play to the level of their competiton so this feels like a trap game.

luckily they make up for it by beating the best teams the most of any other team.

If they could do the same to the bottom-tier teams, they win the President's trophy, I am sure.

Yeah definitely don't get why they're playing Kallgren tonight.

Keefe over thinks his goaltending shit sometimes.

Everyone saying easy win but Leafs sucked against the Coyotes last year at least. Hopefully they don't play down to their opponent. They need to stop that. Early in the season but they should smash a team like this.

Kallgren starting makes little sense to me.
Agreed.

Only thing I can think is that they want to get him in a game, and with Sammy having played two in a row, and perhaps playing both Thu and Sat, this is that opportunity.

Also, in theory, against a weaker opponent, but we all know how the Leafs play to their competition; so maybe a poke at the guys to bring a better effort with the lesser goaltender in goal.

Probably has less to do with now and more in the long run. Maybe they are hedging against Murray's injuries in case he ends up like Mrazek from last year (aka they don't trust their medical staff to prevent injuries) and don't want Samsonov playing all of the games except B2B's.

There is a long road trip ahead and he may end up playing 3 games in 5 nights with travel on the off-days... So I would say the choice was either today or against Winnipeg in Winnipeg. If Murray played against Ottawa, Samsonov probably starts this game and the game against Winnipeg.

same, but I assume they just want to throw him a game against a team we should win against, maybe give him some confidence and Samsonov a break incase they need to have him start a lot of games.

Yeah I was thinking that. Keefe seems to struggle with making the obvious decisions.

@ToneDog hope it's ok that I changed my prediction for tonight?

Keefe has an annoying tendency to make unnecessary lineup changes that weaken our lineup and they usually come back to bite us in the ass.

Maybe this is a 200 IQ move by Keefe to play Kallgren. Leafs have a not great record against teams they should beat over the last two seasons. If that trend holds it’s better to lose with our backup and have people mad at him and Keefe than to lose with Samsonov and have people doubting him.

Wear him out? Seems like a weird thing to do this early in the season. Plenty of time to play Kallgren with games close to each other.

I'm sure this is a situation where Kallgren can play against a bad team but I still think it's a bad decision.

I can't believe the Leafs don't want to build up some familiarity and rythym for the goalie they desperately need to be good.

Similarly, I can't believe Robertson is finally at a level where he can realistically be expected to be a useful NHL player and they don't even care enough to get him into a game. This team makes some weird decisions
