Not going to scoff at acquiring picks but there is a grand total of 2 regular NHLers from the 5th round of the 2017 draft, maybe 2 from the 2018 draft, 1 from the 2019 draft, 1 from the 2016 draft. You have to go back to the 2015 draft before seeing some impact from the 5th round.

I mean sure, but I'd rather have more bullets in the gun than less bullets in the gun.

I have been having arguments the past week on here Lafferty should be waived and was told he will not be waived. I guess in the end the truth was in the middle. He was the obvious move to make but they got something for him.

He has been so meh I thought he was worthless.

NHL execs saw what he did outside of our organization... he is a good player who didn't do great here in limited time.

We sold low on him, but I am glad we at least didn't waive him.

Most of our fans can't think past what has happened in the last week it seems... our fanbase will flip on a player game to game, so no wonder they don't remember his time in Chicago.

Yeah I'm not sure why so many people are upset

Not sure anyone is truly upset... we got an asset for someone who the team didn't think fit.

The annoying thing... we are paying 300k more for a player who shouldn't be in the NHL... for 3 years.

Lafferty has some use and would be a good 4th liner, the reason he is gone is to hold onto a useless much worse 4th liner.

I’m quite fine with this. It allows them to carry a 21 man roster which is huge for us with an aging Gio who shouldn’t play every night. Or even Reeves who probably shouldn’t play every night either.

We can't dress a 21 man roster.

5th rounder aside, I would much rather have Robertson, McMann, Holmberg, Abruzzese, etc competing for spots rather than Lafferty taking up space and keeping younger guys from getting opportunities - especially considering they're all 300k cheaper. Pretty happy with this
That young, up and coming, checks notes, 27 year old McMann. The guy is literally starting into the decline phase of the career for grinders.

Tampa is 100% picking him up if he drops to them.

Seems to be the conventional wisdom but they would need to do some minor cap gymnastics to get under the cap. I suppose Vas would count for them. Is there a max $ you can place on LTIR? For example could a team have $40 mil in cap space on LTIR and it count towards cap relief?

TB has 1 roster spot open 22/23

Dress was the wrong word. It allows us to carry a 21 man roster. And give Gio or Reeves nights off

I understood what you meant, but we still can't carry 21 players unless I am using CapFriendly wrong.

This roster is almost 200k over.

I think unless we plan on waiving Reaves or Timmins, we can't.

No It's because Fraser Minten, and probably Noah Gregor made the team.

Reaves is still playing and is more expensive than other better players we have.

We could have played Minten and signed Gregor, and then still kept Lafferty if Reaves was gone. We also could have ran a 21 man roster.

Not sure Minten or Gregor are better than Lafferty either (Minten will be).

What is it with Vancouver taking our cast offs? Are we we really that far ahead of them in the skill department?

Timmins will be on LTIR which gives us 977k for a 13th forward or 7th Dman.

Once Timmins is healthy the team will have to make a decision unless someone else is hurt by then

IMO he's a decent player that we didn't utilize properly or leverage his abilities as much as we should've. This team has moved to a slower style of play the last couple of years and he was one of the noticeably quicker and better skaters on the team who could actually separate himself a bit in the playoffs. Too bad, not irreplaceable by any means but felt like there was some untapped upside. Best of luck to him

for a few weeks... and then? Hope someone else gets injured?

just want to know the long term plans for the team, cause I think right now we'd be running 11-7 if Timmins wasn't hurt.

I agree speed seems to be a key attribute in playoffs. However, given our cap situation and because he's 28, any has never really excelled at any level. I think this move makes a lot of sense.
