If the game plan tonight was do the bare minimum to win, they nailed it.

Yep! That's this team for you, if they feel a team is un-worthy they won't try. Did anyone notice Matthews/Nylander/JT out there tonight? I sure as hell didn't... we were playing an AHL squad, these guys should have been dominating, yet they looked like they wanted to be elsewhere.

I hope nobody piles on the kid for giving up 4. The first...lucky bounce. 2nd...yeah that was on him. 3rd...all on Dermott losing the puck. And the 4th started with a stupid up the middle clearing pass by Muzzin (who should never be paired with Holl again. Both horrendous) and ended with Woll playing with Marners stick. I don't blame him on that goal one bit.

BS, you bench a player whenever a message needs to be sent, it doesn't matter whom you are! That being said, I don't get why Nylander was scratched however, he wasn't playing that poorly, and if it was for telling Muzzin where to go, thats not sufficient enough reason. Are we sure it's not some sort of undisclosed injury?

This team isn't designed to send messages to these guys. If you have players that can score majority of your goals even if they played like crap for 90% of the game you don't bench them. No teams do. Teams talk outside of games and have meetings you know. Benching is such a stupid thing to resort to for your star players. Go deal with it outside and watch some tape together. If your depth guy refuses to buy into a system, you bench them. You don't bench your star for being off.

I don't think he was injured, just Keefe being dumb and doing his usual act of favoring the golden boys.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here when it comes to benching, because as far as I'm concerned nobody should be off limits, sends a bad message to the entire team. As for Nylander? I really don't know what the hell happened, one minute he's out there and the next he's done for the game, not sure what Keefe was thinking there tbh.

Good win. 3 in 4. Battling hard 8-1 in last 9. It's unrealistic all 8 will be pretty. Good teams win the ugly ones too. There is nothing wrong with tonights game. Take it.

Keefe is a dumbass for benching Nylander though. You never bench any of your core 4. Marner, Matthews, Tavares..none of them. Game breakers can strike at any time. Pastrnak looks like complete trash a lot of the time then has 3 points quicker than you can blink. Panarin is the same and he beat us once already after playing like a scrub for 60 minutes. We got lucky tonight with it not burning us. Over a larger sample you will lose more than you win benching game breakers.

"There is nothing wrong with tonights game" one millisecond later "Keefe is a dumbass though"

I spit out my water laughing.

If you're in a game, the goal is to win that game. Not sending messages. We have a division to win. Ride or die your stars. Is it not true a guy like Matthews can play like trash all game and still win it for you? He did it yesterday?

There's 10000000 hours outside of games to focus on other priorities and deal with issues.

Sometimes a star player sitting his ass on the bench is the direct way to deal with an issue no? I'm not saying a benching should occur automatically, there are ways to deal with an issue, but as a last resort, I have no qualms with a star player riding the pines if need be.

As for Nylander? Fully agreed, Keefe made the wrong call on that one. I'm really curious to learn what lead to the benching though, because that really was an impulsive and out of the blue move on his end.

Maybe if the score is lopsided I'd consider benching lets say Marner to send a message during those first 8 games, but not in a 4-4 tie when I know he's still capable of a big play.

I really hope Nylander said he's done so Keefe said okay sit it out, otherwise it is messed up.

The funny thing is Keefe believes what you're saying. He would never bench the other 3 in a 4-4 tie even if all 3 of them were -4 with 0% corsi. He just doesn't apply your principles to Nylander. Nobody knows why. He's been our second best player for a long time now, I'd say back to 2019 playing with JT the covid cut everything short.

You still want to win the game, I think the decision had more to do with how much he was contributing offensively and the score and less to do with sending a message. Maybe he will clarify in the post-game, but I would assume you'd see Willy in OT if it got there.

Change your name to "biased" then. Nylander and Campbell are our two best players this week and all season long. He's last on the list of forwards to bench based on in-game assessments. Why on earth would you disrespect your current best player like that? If I don't see you say the same thing for Marner next time he has a bad game you should truly consider a more truthful name change to biasedAF

Buffalo's fourth goal, Nylander was just standing there in front of the Leafs bench. Didn't make much effort to cover the point. Keefe was livid.

It looked like the Leafs were playing their 3rd in 4 nights after a good showing in the first 2 games. Hard to dominate when you're fatigued. Also, Buffalo isn't Arizona; they beat the Oilers last night and you could tell they are much more motivated than previous seasons.

Oh and Matthews and Tavares looked fine tonight.

Oh ok, thanks, didn't see it! Now it makes sense, ok, he had that benching coming then... Willy can't be letting those lazy plays happen out there. To be fair, I think Holl should have been benched earlier.

You can see, especially from the other view that Nylander didn't make much of an effort to go out and actually block the point or the pass. He had time too because the guy made a tape to tape pass backwards and Nylander just stood there.

Supposedly Keefe was going nuts on the bench. I think that was his last shift.

I'm so f***ing tired of Queef. How about hold the golden boys account for their bullshit and not just pick on Nylander because its an easy target you sack of crap. Better yet we should have fired his ass after the Montreal debacle or because he insists on making Holl happen with Muzzin. Like it not gonna happen. Stop trying to make it happen.
