I mean, I guess it was technically a forecheck. But really, Engvall skated into the zone and gently chased after the puck. There was hardly any pressure on the puck carrier who got it off to his partner, who then blindly sent it around the boards

It was more of a self inflicted wound by the Sabres than Engvall's forecheck.
It would have been an easy to let off in the pressure, take a less direct route and get the change. Instead he put on pressure and didn't allow the easy exit and it forces the play into more pressure. It's a nice play by him and Kerfoot leading to the goal

I thought Sabres had the core 4 tendencies down to the book and defended them pretty well. These are the games where the core4 have to learn to make in game adjustments and change their own game on teh fly to mess up defensive plans of opposition

This core has had 5 post-seasons to figure it out, and they haven't... if the light switch hasn't gone on yet, I doubt it ever will. This is why it's imperative our depth players step up in the post season, because Lord knows our core players will fall to pieces per usual.

Coming away from the week with 6/8pts. After sleepwalking thru Monday vs LA is pretty darn good.
Burn the tapes and move on.

Was at the game tonight. Holy crap, for 7900 people, the building was LOUD mainly in the third period.

Despite it being a fantastic game to watch live, obviously from a Leafs POV it was a rather lacklustre effort.

Woll got the W, so won’t judge harshly, but he was flopping and having some trouble tracking the puck

This is what I thought I heard.

Chris Cuthbert was calling the play by play ...

Then suddenly from the ice we heard in a most loudest way, "F--- OFF mother ffff," the ending part was cut off, guess someone hit the mute button quickly.

I heard F off, MF, too. I could see how it sounded like F off Muzzin, but likely wasn't the case.

Not the prettiest performance I've ever seen but we took 2points and Buffalo got nothing so good enough

Happy for Woll getting a win in his first NHL game
The depth and defense came through with some much needed scoring
We gutsed out a win in a game we could easily have lost

I'll take it

#33 on Buffalo is horrible jeez.

Extremely sloppy game, but I'll take the 2 points on the second of a back to back with a kid making his NHL debut in net. Some ugly goals for both teams.

Yuck.

Nice to see the kid get his first W. Loved seeing his mom living the moment with him.

Happy for Rielly, happy to win both of the back to back.

otherwise yech….

Good win. 3 in 4. Battling hard 8-1 in last 9. It's unrealistic all 8 will be pretty. Good teams win the ugly ones too. There is nothing wrong with tonights game. Take it.

Keefe is a dumbass for benching Nylander though. You never bench any of your core 4. Marner, Matthews, Tavares..none of them. Game breakers can strike at any time. Pastrnak looks like complete trash a lot of the time then has 3 points quicker than you can blink. Panarin is the same and he beat us once already after playing like a scrub for 60 minutes. We got lucky tonight with it not burning us. Over a larger sample you will lose more than you win benching game breakers.

BS, you bench a player whenever a message needs to be sent, it doesn't matter whom you are! That being said, I don't get why Nylander was scratched however, he wasn't playing that poorly, and if it was for telling Muzzin where to go, thats not sufficient enough reason. Are we sure it's not some sort of undisclosed injury?
