One of the most embarrassing moment for this team in a long time…….just short of getting beat by a Zamboni driver in net……….

I remember at the time everyone was laughing because Montreal got a penalty. Far from most embarrassing moment.
Come on this is the leafs lol

What a stupid comment
Really. You weren’t embarrassed by the team which include 3 of the highest paid players in the league getting beat by their own Zamboni driver or where you not embarrassed by Matthews afraid to do anything but laugh while being ragdolled…….pure cowardice. The guy is 6.4 at least be a man and stand up for yourself………show you care at least

Actually him smiling says he is not intimidated at all. If says the other players attempt to rough him up is like a fly land on his shore

To me, it says rag doll me all you like, I won’t resist, no push back here. Oh, and the Leafs power play was suppose to be the push back, how’d that work out for the Leafs?

Well the PP needs its own moxie.
Imo confidence doesn't need aggression. Usually people fight or react out of fear. I personally had no issue with what happened.
Now if the treatment was really rough, like gloved punches, then I would have hoped he would have defended himself.
I don't have an issue with him having a high tolerance for silly scuffles.
That said I hoped he would have been more physical in the series. I want him to start using that size like Mackinnon is. Become a blue and white freight train. I could care less if he smiles off every attempt to get him riled up and off his game

Yep, lets have our 41 goal, Rocket Richard winner break his hand on the face / helmet of a plug from Montreal, sounds like a great trade off.

It’s not wise to be a sheep in the land of wolves.

Yeah. The negative reaction to Matthews mocking of the Habs player always struck me as strange. Getting red faced and throwing a fit as an alternative isn't intimidating in the slightest
If he did shy away physically it would be a concern, but that was just 1 play where he drew a penalty. He was probably the Leafs most physical player in the series

Well, the best player ever knew if you stood your ground the opposition would look elsewhere for trouble. How ironic is it that AM won the Rocket Richard trophy………the Rocket didn’t stand for it either………

Matthews laughing while being ragdolled would be better received if we'd gone on to win the series. Similar to Bergevin pointing at the TV when it obviously wasn't goalie interference, or Kotkaniemi giving 4 fingers to the stands before losing. Anything "funny" that could've been drawn from the series is flushed down the toilet because this team ultimately failed in spectacular and embarrassing fashion, as usual.

Anyway, I can sort of see what Matthews is trying to do, but on the other hand not fighting back and letting himself get tossed around doesn't inspire confidence or portray strength. Like sure it "doesn't bother him" was what he was trying to go for but he's a big man himself, shove them back, get a facewash in. You're teammates are jumping in to your defence, the least you could do is grab a guy.

I didn't like his reaction either but to call this one of the most embarrassing moments in a long time is a stupid comment

For that Matthews thing. If he fought back and the Leafs still lose the series and AM still played the way he did. Instead of saying that’s embarrassing or no push back, it would be he is supposed to be our leader but he let the other team got under his skin….
I am piss at AM not producing but that’s not even close to be mad about.

Refs had given us a PP on the play. In that scenario you don’t retaliate and take the PP

Come on guys, if Matthews took Chiarot and starting pounding him in the face with a psychotic smile, you can't tell me he wouldn't instantly become a legend in T.O. I'm sure every single person on this forum would have liked that response a lot more than his typical passive response. The fans would have loved it, his teammates would have loved it, and the coaches would have secretly loved it. Only ironic glasses may have been disappointed.

Matthews led the team with 25 hits in the 7 game series. MacKinnon had 15 hits in 10 games.

Grinning at someone trying to bully or irk you seems completely appropriate. Having no reaction is even better. Having no reaction then next shift blasting the guy into the boards with a legal hit is the best reaction.
