you need toughness in the line up. There isn’t a whole lot of that in UFA. People who are on here saying Sabourin is a better player than Wayne Simmonds need to get their eyes checked. Sabourin is a horrible hockey player and literally good for nothing.

I can admit I love Simmonds, but he didn’t play well down the stretch. But he does bring something besides toughness to this team. That is a net front presence on the Power Play and even 5 on 5. Simmonds is statistically one of the best PP scorers in the league. prior to the PP going cold and his injury he was a huge factor in terms of screening and creating traffic. That is something NO ONE else on the team does. So whether you like him or not, he brings an element that is needed to the team at the end of the day.

Trust me, I’m all for bringing more toughness to the team. Problem is outside of a two week period Simmonds didn’t bring anything.

that is a fundamental core issue within the team. I truly believe that is a coach and general manager philosophy to not engage in extra physical post scrums and limit the risk of going down on the PK. Unless they change that, the team won’t change.

I also think you’re being way to critical of Simmonds, what exactly did Mikheyev do all year? And he makes more than Simmonds. Simmonds at least creates traffic in front of the net

Kind of like when Matthew's started smiling like a prepubescent little boy when Chiarot tried to shove him a little bit after the whistle and Matthews just had that stupid look on his face. What a bunch of soft spoiled pieces of crap

I’ve actually been getting that vibe. I had to explain F1, F2 and F3 to you. You don’t know as much about hockey as you think you do.
I remember quite clearly. In your genius you forgot what forwards do in the defensive zone. That is really next level knowledge.

It’s only a 12 minute sample size but Vesey-Kerfoot-Nylander have CF% 80.95 and xGF% 59.73

my question is why do you watch games with a blindfold on? It’s very easy to see they played well together
Totally happy Vesey didnt clear waivers. He did very little

That was pathetic, embarrassed the jersey.
and on their quest to re-think hockey Shanahan and Dubas are leading the charge for this type of thing, even giving their players a list of official responses for when fans start calling them a bunch of wimps; "We don't need to fight back! We will punish them with our power play!" or my personal favorite "We don't need to bodycheck! Because quick sticks! It's all about quick sticks!" really makes you wonder how our players would have developed on a team with non-vegan management.

And elite zone entries. One cannot forget the elite zone entries even though in the playoffs when the defensive side of the game is magnified they don’t work.

Lol no body check and quick sticks makes me think of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Leafs = Sword guy
Indy = playoffs

Not many would argue Simmons couldn’t handle himself, but that was a long time ago, like ancient history time ago.
Tommy and Wayner can still fight hard .. are they Chara and Reaves tough - no .. but both are very strong gents and could at minimum hold on with anyone .. I know you guys don't like these type of guys on a team anymore I hear it everyday from my kids but bottom line if he still has some hands left and can screen and tip point shots then he still brings value .. guys on other teams know that Wayner is on da bench and da hotheads know they will have to pay a price to run/talk to one of our skill guys .. it keeps everyone honest .. if you want proof watch how Maroon has neutralized Anderson in SC final .. virtually every game he skates up to him and talks to him a bit and Anderson flies away .. he wants no part of it .. and every person on ice on both teams knows exactly what is going on .. at some point for Habs to win Edmunsdon is going to have to drop Maroon and he has da ability to do it to stop Maroon from intimidating anderson

I’m not against a tough team, far from it so I don’t know why your quoting my post in particular, but whatever. Simmons doesn’t intimidate anyone anymore, a pugilist who has a history of hand injuries isn’t going to do much to intimidate anyone. Leafs have to stop with the recycled “once were good” players and trade some assets to get these types of players who are in their prime or just entering it. Toronto has always been the landing site for older players looking for a easy semi retirement gig, only difference is in the cap era they don’t make as much money. Didn’t work then, won’t work now.

BTW, I don’t see Anderson losing any sleep because of Maroon scaring him, that’s just nonsense.

You could be very right about it being a team philosophy, and also that things won’t change until that does.

As for being too hard on him, he wasn’t the only problem by far but it’s an easy one to fix. Mikheyev is at least strong defensively and can PK, his speed also creates chances out of nothing.

Talk about projecting a bias. If a bully is pushing you around you let him know it does not bother you, by either mocking him (smiling at him) or you punch him in the face, that is all Matthews was doing.

Chances that don’t convert cause the man has hands of stone.

Oh is that all he was doing? How'd that work out for him? Soft.

My favorite is we need the 2 points. Because if you push back you can't get 2 points.

I don’t care about Vesey. Nobody does he was a useless part. But with our cap structure we’re gonna rely on some reclamation projects to come through. There’s no reason Vesey couldn’t give us 15/15 and strong 2 way play
