Those guys cost a fortune to aquire and as I'm sure you are aware we aren't exactly swimming in cap space or assets

Do they? Tanev, Ekholm, Pesce types cost 1st+ spare pieces and don’t really make that much money. We need a 2018 Muzzin or a 2021 Brodie clone, they cost the same as every other upper end deadline rental and you can get two or three of them for the same cap hit as Bertuzzi, Klingberg, Domi, and Reaves come in at.

No one forced Brad to spend 8 mil on Kling Kampf and Reaves or another 8.5 on Bertuzzi and Domi to lower the teams avg IQ by double digits. The space was there we just yet again chose to spend it on completely mismatched pieces.

That’s a major problem. Klingberg is absolute garbage. This team is done with this backend. Done.
Thats absolute nonsense. He has been everything we knew he is and more. Posters just wanted a new whipping boy from the moment he signed and have resigned him to his fate as "absolute garbage" and nothing will change their opinions.

He is easily the best FA we signed this offseason.

I was fully supportive of the Klingberg signing but the guy is just out to lunch on routine plays out there and earning the wrath honestly. They aren’t even breakdowns. They’re just careless, not paying attention, spraying the puck, cowering away from contact. Letting a puck roll towards open ice because he wasn’t moving his feet. Poking at a loose puck and conceding. No idea about body positioning. Fire drill on routine plays. He’s basically playing like he’s here to stats pad and get his money.

Absolute bullshit Stephen. He bailed out of one play where he didnt have the puck and got bulled over by a Pasta (aka interference), and yet he has been smashing people every chance he gets in the corners and on the walls.

We knew he wasn't going to be a defensive wizard just like we know Rielly isnt. Anyone who expected a top pairing defenceman is out to lunch but it seems thats what all of you thought he was, somehow for only 4 million dollars.

Klingberg’s been tap dancing out of contact all season! That he hit Pastrnak once and that made an impression tells you the kind of physicality he’s contributed.

I liked the Klingberg signing. I liked him in Dallas and he was a beast on the 2020 team that went to the finals. He hasn’t done a lot to back me up on that.

Klingberg has been laying the body more than any of our defenceman other than McCabe.

You seem like youve been watching him this season and only noticing everytime he does something you consider negative and ignoring when he does something neutral or good. He is not perfect, not even close. He isn't really good defensively, almost ignorant even... but he has an ability to keep the puck in the offensive zone like nobody we have had in years. He can walk the line and shoot it, finally and sometimes he actually lays the body on guys.

I didn't watch him last year in Anaheim or Minnesota after the wheels fell off but quite a bit on the Dallas run in 2020 in the bubble playoffs when there wasn't much else to do and into 2021. Can tell you he wasn't anywhere close to this checked out and wouldn't have gone over too well on a very stingy Dallas team. Walked the line well, presented a John Carlson type shot option from the point and transported the puck clean through transition on a north south, robot Western Conference team. Hitting has never been his calling card.

This year he's doing Erik Karlsson in Pittsburgh impressions.

As bad as he has been it’s allowed Rielly to play more even strength minutes.
That alone makes Klingberg by far the best of Pizza Boy’s off season acquisitions which really isn’t saying much as they have all been terrible

Still take bertuzzi over him he’s gross

It’s definitely not a high bar. I think mostly due to the improved play of Rielly it’s Klingberg. But I think Bert will improve if he gets healthy and finds some chemistry with someone in the lineup.

Which on its own is kinda sad. The best thing I can say about a player is another guy he doesn’t even play with has been better.

Guys, since the beginning of the 2019-20 season Justin Holl is +138 better than Klingberg. That’s the greatest thing I’ve ever heard

looks pathetic defensively on at least 2 goals against every game

also once again "fixed" the PP by taking Rielly off and it getting worse

Now the question is do they do something about it or just keep this circus running the whole season? I somehow fear it will be the latter

John Klingberg's 2022-23 season vs Erik Gustaffson who we got in the Sandin trade and then let walk. Both players are 31 years old.

Klinberg - 67 games, 33 points. 4 points in 4 playoff games. This somehow netted him a $4.1 million dollar deal from us. Note that Klingberg spent the majority of the year on the Ducks who last year were THE WORST DEFENSIVE TEAM IN NHL HISTORY. That is not an exaggeration, they allowed 3207 shots on goal in an 82 game season and averaged 39 shots on goal per game allowed.

Gustafsson - 70 games, 42 points, 1 point in 2 playoff games. This netted him a $825K deal from the Rangers. Gus spent the majority of last season on the Caps who were a bad team but not historically bad.

What is the difference between the two players?

Because of the cap hits dedicated to a collective of Bertuzzi, Reaves, Klingberg, Domi and Kampf, we had to cap dump Sam Lafferty and walked away from Noah Accari who led the playoffs in hits last season despite only playing 2/4 possible rounds and was playing through a broken nose while doing so.

Isn’t Klingberg over 5 million? But yeah this is all a big mess. Hard to believe really.
