Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign Jarnkrok to a 4 year 2.1M AAV contract

Probably 1yr too long but that's barely a gripe when you are smack dab in the middle of your contention window. It's not like you guys have too any long contracts besides Reilly anyways so plenty of flexibility, plus a low AAV.

Great signing imo. He can probably benefit any of your lines, or at the very least the bottom 9.
As has been suggested, the term isn't an issue as long as the AAV is right. Cap will continue to rise, to in his 3rd or 4th year if Leafs feel a need to move on, they can.

I try and be positive and hope all teams succeed for the full term of their contract.

There is a reason I wanted Mik and Engvall traded at last years deadline. Play style and contract considerations (especiailly Mik of course). I suppose it's a tough call when going into what you hope will be a long run each post season.

I like this signing, been a fan of his for quite some time. Bit of a lengthy contract for his age, but the dollar amount isn't astronomical. Definitely fills a hole and a need.

Trades are coming. He makes Kerfoot redundant on the team and takes up too much cap to keep both.

Let’s see who we have on the ice on opening night.

Seems like the type of player we target. Wish he had more sandpaper, but he's a useful player all the way around. At 2.1....is this spelling the end of Kerfoot? They bring a lot of the same

Listening to Dubas on Wednesday, made it sound like the Sandin deal is pretty close to being done.

I'd like to think Holl is gone too, but have a suspicion that because he's one of "their guys", he won't be - remember, they protected him at the Expansion Draft last year.
Defensive UFA market was thin. Hopefully we can cash on Holl and use that cap space somewhere else. Should turn future UFAs to assets and recoup some from free agency. Then we could use those assets for trade if something comes up.

Hey Dubas haters, I'm gonna counter your whining shitshow after a relatively meh signing, now that Dubas made a pretty good signing like this:

f***ing awesome signing, great GM!!
f*** you haters

Imo he's going to be our kerfoot replacement. More versatile and cheaper. Kerfoot never looked good on the wing or as 3C. Jarnkrok can do both

If we move out both Kerfoot and Holl...how much caps-space would we have

If we move both of them (for no returning caphit) out and get Sandin and Engvall signed in the $1.5m range then the max available we could spend on other UFAs would be about $4m.

Is there anything else worth buying in free agency if we move off Kerfy and Holl? Or just to create enough cap space to get Sandin and Engvall done?

Just spitballing here, but if we trade Sandin for a prospect like Dylan Hollowell (placeholder name) who could grow in a forward role and has great upside and is cost controlled, it’s not the end of the world. Not saying Hollowell, but recently drafted first round forward with positive development.
This might be and hopefully is interesting off season. If we can shuffle UFAs to different assets and something good trough trades, that would be the avenue towards improving.

We might have to allocate that Holl's cap space from defense and we could now trade Kerfoot. Need new signings and that young forward might be good idea instead of Sandin. Depending of the player.

Defense is pretty thin on the market, so can't open too much space from defense. We talk about Subban but it's pretty defined role where he slots. Could on short term replace Sandin but he can't PK so we need also another dman if we trade Holl.

Jarnkrok adds options with his versatility.

Not sure i totally understand this signing? What happened to giving some of the younger kids some playing time? They need to develop.

There must be some bodies leaving town soon, ala Kerfoot, Holl.

It's an ok signing, not great but average. He fits a need .

Term is too long, but not that expensive.

Talk about over reaction!

ZAR? Steel? Subban? Kessel?

I'd rather add one good player than lots of depth. There should be openings for youngsters and if they don't pan out we tryout Malgin and visit UFA pool just before season.
