No kidding. He is not a fit for the Leafs. No way Toronto re-signs him. No chance.

He's kind of reminding me of Kris Versteeg, a weird fit from the hop, weird attitude... traded in season. Not sure that will happen with Bert but it's just an odd fit. So bizarre for a guy who chose to come here, doesn't seem to want to be here, doesn't seem to be trying to impress anyone for a long term deal.

Oh, oddly enough Versteeg was on the radio about this:

Not one of Travelings signings will get anywhere near what they got here.Bertuzzi and Domi have till about gm 20 to gel.

Both Domi and Bert have been the odd men out. Perhaps the pressure of playing in Toronto is a factor as the article suggests. I am really pulling for Domi and hope he finds his game, as we all know how much he wanted to play for the Leafs.

Domi has been pretty decent for atleast a few games, can't say the same for Bertuzzi. Domi looked good playing C, hopefully that line with him Roberston and Jarnkrok can keep playing well and keep Domi at C.

Let’s not pretend he is Nick Ritchie 2.0 here guys.

Bert can play, he is adjusting to playing at Leafs tempo.

How is he going to adjust? Is he going to magically stop having some of the worst skating of any top-6 player in the league?

Really wonder what his leash looks like moving forward. Wonder if there's a team willing to swap another UFA to be for him if it comes down to it.

I'm surprised Domi is the one crumbling from the pressure considering his best seasons came while he was in Montreal.

I've always been a huge Domi skeptic though simply because he tends to excel on teams that suck. Be wary of players that put up good numbers on bad teams.

Haven't been a huge fan of Domi either but he's shown more of a pulse and probably has a nicer foundation to build on that Bertuzzi at the moment.

He’s rapidly approaching nick Ritchie territory.
Does Tre have the skill set and gumption to identify and rectify a mistake and replace him with a better fit?
Doubtful based on track record.

I think it is he needs to learn how to play with JT and Willie. Learns how to read off JT and Willie.

It is not about skating for Bert but more about being in position.
Yeah and worst case Sticc robertson on second line and Bert on the third

I thought he was a physical player who at least finished his checks - haven’t seen any of that.

Am I missing something because I recall him having an in-your-face style of play or did that change when he joined this pillow team?

Either way, I think he needs to play that way to be effective and the scoring will eventually follow but who knows what Keefe wants out of him considering this team’s approach to physical play.

Not pressure...too much adulation, too much activity, too little concentration on hockey .

Could it be as simple as clashes of political stances? Bertuzzi was obviously anti vac which usually says further to the right and the core possibly leaning to the left - going by certain causes they have stood behind.

Am I thinking too much into this?

When it comes to players quickly acclimating to a city/organization, Toronto's always been one of the easier clubs in the NHL/pro sports.

Edited to say: I think he's a quintessential old-time Maple Leaf. Which might explain why the transition has been modest thus far.
I would have thought the complete opposite actually due to the increased scrutiny of fans and media along with burden of expectation.

Pretty fitting the lone unvaccinated player in the league would be a massive suckhole pouter who can’t get out of his own way tripping on his own lip.
Chefs kiss

Bertuzzi is currently at Nick Ritchie territory, pacing at 8.25 points over 33 games. Ritichie was at 9 in 33 when he got the boot.

So there would be zero loss if he left today.

I do too. Sometimes I’m a little too dry.

What did everyone actually expect from him? Second coming of Mogilny? He scored 30 on a bad Detroit team once. 8 regular season goals last season. He'll be useful in the playoffs. Put him on the third line until then. Let him and Domi find chemistry together and hurt a lot of people.

I have no idea how that would turn him into an absolute turd on skates.

Could make a move for Hanifin with the money that's tied up in Bertuzzi. Needs to be way better.

Too much into it or not enough?

The amount of money he can possibly make on his next contract is what he's tunnel vision'd on. I sincerely doubt any nonsense like that would be getting in his way of that.

The likely scenario is that he's going to eventually get going and start producing better.
