Just did some digging into his numbers a bit to confirm what I already thought was the case, but he actually leads the team the in CF% and xGF%. His xGF% is above 60% which is pretty insane. Unfortunately he's just not converting right now, his 5v5 on-ice sh% is about 7% (meaning the team converts on 7% of chances when Bert is on the ice), the Leafs historically have been between 9-10% as a team through the Matthews era. JT is in a similar situation. Expect a strong finish to the season for these two, and hopefully carried over into the playoffs.
He seems to be snake bitten

Be nice if there was a better option for the top 6. So many times the puck leaves his stick and the next stick it touches is that of the opponent. His attention to detail is also lacking.

He does try hard though, i'll give him that.

Where is this guy value
When there is an extra man on the ice at the end of a game and he is on the Bench ….
He does not fit on this team
Was worth the try ……..

He started the season pretty badly but he's been very good in the last 6-7 or so weeks. He needs to start putting up points on the board, but those will come I think.

I do hope the Leafs and Bertuzzi can work on an extension for a few more years before he explodes offensively. I think he's really fit in with what they need in terms of complimentary top 6 forward. At some point, they have to stop churning LWers and sign one.

Watching him on the cycle with JT is a thing of beauty. They both need to convert more but they're constantly controlling the play out there. If Marner was more himself this year they'd probably have potted a few more by now.

I could see them using some of Samsonov's money to sign Bertuzzi.

Point totals can be misleading at times, and I think this is one of those cases. We don't have many forwards that can play down low and along the boards in the fashion that Bert can. He is not very fast or shifty so he's had to make a career of playing through contact and earning the ice he gets.

JT and him have really complimented one another on that second line. They play very similar styles in the offensive zone.

I'd love to bring Bert back at the right price, but time will tell if that's something he'd be open to. He's had his fair share of criticism in Toronto both by the fanbase and the coaching staff, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't into the idea of extending.

I like his style of play. He gets hard on the forecheck, good in front of the net and had excellent hockey sense, and great passing.

He looks like one of those players that's doing all the right things before he breaks out. Definitely would offer a long term contract

Bert is ok. The problem is that he doesn't add any grit to this team. Not willing to. Kadri and Hyman were homegrown thugs ready to fight for these colors. He is just a mercenary. That's the difference:

Turns 29 in February, hasn't blown the doors off in production but his underlying numbers are good and he provides a nice need in the top 9.

Neiderreiter, at 31, just extended for 3 years @ $4 AAV .. Ryan Hartman, at 29, extended October for the same.

It's a bit unusual to see a player in his prime extend for less of an AAV but his 1-year gamble and production hasn't shown he's worth the same for multiple years.

I think if you can get him for 3-4 years around $4 AAV, that's a good deal to jump on when he can re-sign in January. High-end top 9 money, low-end top 6 money. Knies and Robertson are nice cheap options for the next few years, and Bert add a nice mix on the left side in the top 9 (and could play the right side too).

From an asset perspective you would hate to see him get hot in the stretch and have a big playoff performance to boost his contract value.

👌
This man gets it

I mean he's been playing better than his point totals show, but at some point, the points needs to start coming; can't just wait around all year for something, especially on a one year contract.
