JT is an anchor that he doesn’t provide anything but scoring on PP, which I think a lot of players making less can pot in as many goals as him on our PP.
JT also is not great on defense, he is okay and for 11mil, you need to be better than okay.
The problem with JT on the Leafs is that he doesn’t provide any intangibles that we lack. A loud voice, physical on ice…
If I am JT, I would look long and hard to see what should I do to better the team. Skating 5% faster won’t do it. He needs to understand what he needs to do, for example, don’t carry the puck up ice, make quick pass, be vocal, and attack the net every shift.
MM is a different issue. I think both him and AM needs to be on separate lines to help the team. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get close to 100pts and AM won’t hit 50goals, or they will be unhappy…. MM driving his own lines will be great come playoffs time, as hopefully other teams can only shut down one line.
i remain steadfsst that this team.won't win a Cup with Marner playing 20+ minutesin the playoffs.

Matthews at least has the potentisl for physical play and leadership by example. In fact he is the only one of the core who shows it from time to time.

Yes, J.T HAS to be more vocal. Reaves and Bertuzzi can be too but they are going to need full throttle unpleasant players with every pickup. It still wont win them the Cup.with this Core here but they might win another round.

This current team won’t win unless either the big four change the way they play or a few of them are traded for players

Great move!

Want to see Domi signed next. Murray needs to be moved. Unfortunately will likely see Nylander moved at some point for cap reasons.

Our core group lacks natural leadership and the mix is all wrong.

John Tavares is completely miscast as a leader on this team. He's kind of like a zero personality, low energy level Pierre Turgeon, whom people used to refer to as a "Tin Man", But he has a good reputation and a Hockey Canada afterglow from his early days that just stuck.

Auston Matthews is a complete chameleon. For me, he can exhibit the entire spectrum of leadership, defense, physicality, fiery compete. Everything you want. Or not. Just seems like you get a different flavor depending on circumstances, linemates, quality of competition, the size and magnitude of the moment.

Mitch Marner isn't a leader, let's be serious. You can appreciate him for the good that he brings but I don't know who is following him into battle because he's not going in the battle.

William Nylander is not a leader, not tasked to be a leader and won't be a leader. He is a great number four offensive weapon if you have all your other ducks in a row, however.

Idk about that.

Move Willy and Bert walks next year as a UFA, we’re in bad shape. Depends on return for Willy I guess.
McDavid the year after. Seems they might be playing this game of not to much salary new core 4? 🤔

Nylander has had enough good games to question if you really watch ...

The only change to the D is Holl for Klingberg. Not sure how that will make us go from a top 7-10 defensive team to a team that lets in 5 goals a game.

Klingberg is potentially the worst defensive D in the league, just guessing, but no clue how true this is, I just know he is terrible.

Reaves, Bertuzzi, and Domi (who people are hoping for), are all bad defensively.

Yesterday Bertuzzi and Domi weren’t in the mix. They are now. What a difference a day makes; lots of time for more changes and moves before training camp.

Good signing. Should help our top 6 a lot

Lol no where near the worst in the league. He will not even be the worse on the Leafs this year.

He will make Rielly look like Slavin

In 2023 making private medical choices is considered "Me First". May God have mercy on our souls.

Great signing though, surprised he chose us. Still a lot of work to be done.

People said this crap about tons of players that ended up winning later in their careers. You are a loser, until you are not.

Klingberg 4, Bertuzzi 5, do these guys not understand this is the kind of help you get when you sign long term, respectable cap hit contracts. If not you get Kerfoot and Holl as depth.

Tavares has lots of heart. He just seems like a bit of an introvert, not really suited for NHL leadership.

If the were going to change the way they play it would have happened by now, we have all been waiting to see them "grow". Only Matthews has shown flashes of."getting it".

He threw down Weber when angry, took a nice two game suspension during a 60 goal season and even uncomfortably threw down with Stamkos. None of the other core can say the same.

An angry Matthews is a greater joy to watch.

Do you think Nylander for Hanifin is a straight up deal, or does one side have to add? Ultimately, I would like to see us get Hanifin AND Zadorov!
Why are you obsessed w mid d-men? Especially for Nylander of all people?
