Leafs have been rumoured to have interest in Bert for years. Took a dinosaur to get it done. LOL.
Last year he was traded. Boston out bid us. Different race signing a UFA who obviously wants to play here

I think anyone must wonder why ROR choose Preds over Leafs and other teams(if any).
It definitely wasn’t money and term.
Preds is not close to winning anything unless Saros goes Godmode like Roy back in the 90s.
We all wonder why ROR didn’t sign with the Leafs since Leafs want him back.
Rumor was because we decided to keep Keefe

This is a perfect deal! I was worried about signing him longterm but a 1 year is more than fine with me. Excellent work by Treliving here

Ideally we get a 3C and a 3LD. I don't think we can swing both so it'll be interesting to see what Tre does

Normally cautious here, but I really think we can count on Knies to be a good contributor this season. Robertson is such a wildcard, but I recall last year he was amazing in camp and really looked ready, the Malgin nonsense short curcuited his momentum and then of course this injury. Holmberg could be the fourth line C, but man Kampf in the three hole is underwhelming.
Maybe they will put Willie at 3C and put Calle and Lafferty on his wings to create a speed line.

Seems like the reports recently point towards a Nylander trade to me... but we'll see.

Murray is obviously gone, regardless of what Treliving had to say about him.

Eh, I'd think Brodie probably a higher chance than Nylander imo. Flip him for a pick then go spending on a replacement in free agency.

Bertuzzi is better to add as a compliment to the forward core than as a guy expected to drive a line/carry the load himself

Huge if true. Why move Nylander at this point? Load up for a cup run while we can.

I'm thinking this now too. Our offense is loaded now. Knies should be even better than last season too, more offensive help with Klingberg, Matthews hopefully returning to full health. We could be the best offensive team in the league.

I like it from our perspective. No idea why it's a 1 year deal from Bertuzzi's perspective...

Cap is reportedly going up huge next year. Playing with 2 elite talents and with the Toronto market boost, he could be in line for a big pay day after that. I think that's probably the line of thinking. Het the highest AAV on a 1 year from Toronto, and hope to cash in even more next year.

Ehhhh Brodie hasn't been in the rumour mill at all. I've been saying it for months but at this point, he's staying.

It is going to be hard to compete with JT and his contract.
Agreed. Leafs are stuck with it though.

If I am JT I focus heavily on skating drills all summer. If he can add 5% speed it can be a dfference maker in cutting down on his liabilities.

Look, I get the JT bashing. However, I refrain from criticizing him for two reasons: 1) He chose Toronto and took less to do so. 2) Come playoffs he is willing to get to the net. He knows he is overpaid, but he is also not playing a pure chicken shyte perimeter game.

In my books, if he is willing to sacrafice I will continue to root for him. IMO Marner is the biggest anchor on this teams playoff chances, sorry to say. He has phenomenal vision, Gilmour, even, gulp, Gretzky like at times. He is very creative, but lacks the courage to win a Cup. Cups are won with brute force and sacrifice, not Ice Capades

If this GM decides to do nothing more than bring in the Reave-like, Bertuzi-like players (Klingberg? No...) he may garner my attention this upcoming season. I am certain this team is dead in the watee come playoffs with the big money allocated to pond hockey.

How does our cap situation look now? Can we sign Samsonov after LTIRing Muzzin, or do we need to make a move to clear Murray's cap hit?
If treliving can't trade Murray ther is a second buyout window I think

Pretty well the way I see it.

Maybe O'Rielly couldn't understand why Keefe kept putting him out on the 1st power play unit ahead of our 40 goal scorer (Nylander).
I really am not a Keefe fan and this news makes me think that Keefe was stopping them from playing with some.... jam.
Hell even Schenn really chilled out after the first few games vs Tampa
Just speculating of course, but if ROR thought the coach was a problem in going deep or winning a cup and said issue was coming back, why would he return?

This definitely changes my attitude towards Treliving. We just swiped the best playoff performer off of Boston and the Bruins have already lost Bertuzzi, Hall and Folingo

For the leafs, This is ROR and Acciari for Bertuzzi and Reaves and on D it's Klingberg for Holl/Schenn. I don't hate it. We need players that want to be here.

I mean, it looks a lot better then 18 hours ago.

$5.5 million seems like the "cashing in" amount for a Tyler Bertuzzi. So if the cap goes up, things go well, I could see them just extending that AAV. Hard time imaginging him getting more than $6 million even if he turns in Bunting type numbers.
