A middle 6 forward maybe thats Domi, and a bottom 6 forward and we are good.
I would leave the defence alone honestly.
Sign Sammy and Nylander to extensions.
Need a heavy on D
PK/Clear the net, protecting a lead guy.

Reilly plays best with this type of player.

Agreed. Leafs are stuck with it though.

If I am JT I focus heavily on skating drills all summer. If he can add 5% speed it can be a dfference maker in cutting down on his liabilities.

Look, I get the JT bashing. However, I refrain from criticizing him for two reasons: 1) He chose Toronto and took less to do so. 2) Come playoffs he is willing to get to the net. He knows he is overpaid, but he is also not playing a pure chicken shyte perimeter game.

In my books, if he is willing to sacrafice I will continue to root for him. IMO Marner is the biggest anchor on this teams playoff chances, sorry to say. He has phenomenal vision, Gilmour, even, gulp, Gretzky like at times. He is very creative, but lacks the courage to win a Cup. cups are one with brute force, not Ice Capades

If this GM decides to do nothing more than bring in the Reave-like, Bertuzi-like players (Klingberg? No...) he may garner my attention this upcoming season. I am certain this team is ded in the watr come playoffs with the big money allocated in pond hockey.
JT is an anchor that he doesn’t provide anything but scoring on PP, which I think a lot of players making less can pot in as many goals as him on our PP.
JT also is not great on defense, he is okay and for 11mil, you need to be better than okay.
The problem with JT on the Leafs is that he doesn’t provide any intangibles that we lack. A loud voice, physical on ice…
If I am JT, I would look long and hard to see what should I do to better the team. Skating 5% faster won’t do it. He needs to understand what he needs to do, for example, don’t carry the puck up ice, make quick pass, be vocal, and attack the net every shift.
MM is a different issue. I think both him and AM needs to be on separate lines to help the team. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get close to 100pts and AM won’t hit 50goals, or they will be unhappy…. MM driving his own lines will be great come playoffs time, as hopefully other teams can only shut down one line.

If we fail this year before the TDL he will probably garner alot of value back at the TDL.

One year deals could restock our farm system if we shit the bed
I hope not but the Avs bottomed out in 2016-17 with MacKinnon, Rantanen, Duchene and Landeskog on their team. Same thing happened in Tampa Bay in 2012-13 with Hedman, Stamkos, St. Louis and Lecavalier on their team. Avs turned that awful downturn into Cale Makar. Tampa drafted a bust (Dubois) but not before converting him into Sergachev. And both were subsequent cup winners to boot.

You mean Drouin.

Bertuzzi is another "personality" guy, he celebrates like Ovie when he scores.

After being super frustrated with Treliving last night, this Bertuzzi deal has definitely been a improvement. He could be a 70 point guy in our top 6.

Hopefully there is room to add a 3c yet.

I'd be happy with that and probably add a gritty defenseman at the trade deadline if we're in it.

No, it’s a stretch at best. Basically people are linking an interview a few weeks ago where he said he didn’t feel the team changed its strategy when they hit a wall against Florida, which people took as criticism of Keefe (which it may have been), with the reports that going to Nashville was a personal decision rather than money/term.

But at the time he gave that interview he was also very much still talking about returning, and by all reports was still considering the Leafs until the final hour. Those aren’t the actions of someone who thinks there’s a big problem in the room.

Just like Matthews is leaving Toronto for L.A, or whatever other false narrative people love to go on about here. It's all make-believe.

Is that not why I said Treliving would move Nylander? PLD was moved for 3 young roster players with NHL experience. You could probably get that same value plus futures for Nylander. As he’s a better player.

Would give us more depth to work with and maximize even this Bertuzzi signing
Big difference - PLD agreed to an extension, which clearly increased the return. Will Willy do the same?

Very good addition. Could mix it up heavy with us if he finds chemistry with someone. Plus we got Knies coming up. Give me a heavy D man now, clear the front of the net with some tenacity.

This definitely changes my attitude towards Treliving. We just swiped the best playoff performer off of Boston and the Bruins have already lost Bertuzzi, Hall and Folingo

For the leafs, This is ROR and Acciari for Bertuzzi and Reaves and on D it's Klingberg for Holl/Schenn. I don't hate it. We need players that want to be here.

I mean, it looks a lot better then 18 hours ago.

I don't believe we are close to being done yet either. We will be a better team than last season.

It’s not a toxic stay away at all costs situation but almost every “character” guy we’ve brought in has made comments about deficits in the room and most of them refused to offers to stay. We see players visually and measurably get less physical when they come here after the initial honeymoon period wears off.

I don’t know why it’s such a stretch to suggest Brendan Shanahan’s team plays the type of game Shanahan has been promoting since 2005 and players acquired by trade don’t always like that philosophy.

A healthy Matthews could easily top 50 goals without Marner. Probably hits 60 too if he played a full season.
