Another 1 year deal. I like it.

Wonder what the cap plan is. Presumably someone has to be traded. Don't see it being Samsonov because running with Woll/Murray as a tandem is suicide. I don't think it's Nylander because these 1 year deals feel like it's keeping the cap space open for Matthews/Nylander raises. It could be Murray but I don't think they want to punt off more draft picks, perhaps a Murray retained + Abruzzese + Steeves/Kokkonen for nothing kind of deal. Perhaps a Murray buyout in the 2nd window which gets activated if Samsonov goes to arbitrion, but the 2 million hit in 2024/25 is really tough to swallow. Brodie is the only other option that would clear any room but you'd have to bring in another defender then and if it's to clear space for Samsonov you're looking at sub 2 million which is almost impossible.

I'm not seeing the reason for all the excitement. Bertuzzi is an injury prone player who was added to the best team in the league as "the missing piece" to push them over the top.....and they flamed out first round.

The fact Boston traded Hall for nothing just to be able to make a run at keeping Bertuzzi and he then signed with us is all kind of f***ing hilarious. I love it.

Not sure Boston ever had room to sign him TBH. They had to trade Hall because of the 4.5 million in bonus overages carried over from Kreijci/Bergeron last year. They have 6.2 in cap space but need to sign Swayman and Frederic still. Surely that costs 4 million minimum. Bertuzzi wasn't doable for them without further trades

I mean I am just saying all the talk out of Boston is they wanted to bring him back and were talking to him after trading Hall.

Love the signing but how many months do you think until we’re hearing that Bertuzzi has lost the respect of the refs and needs to tone down his antics?

Bertuzzi (and Marchand) led the Bruins in points during that round.

Seems like the reports recently point towards a Nylander trade to me... but we'll see.

Murray is obviously gone, regardless of what Treliving had to say about him.

More of his type are needed up and down the lineup, but they will still be handcuffed with the Cap. Bertuzzi is literally the prototype they need with every move because the core disappears when the bullying begins, its been the book on the Leafs for seven years. So come playoffs they have to hope their depth can squeak out ugly 2-1 wins every night because the Big Dogs won't be money.

Leafs will also need Knies and maybe even Robertson and Holmberg to make big steps and provide depth and maybe more.

Nylander is most certainly gone at this point. It is what it is, Marner would have been the guy I trade. I am convinced they will not win a Cup with him playing 20+ minutes a game unless its on the PP in the playoffs.

Maybe you're being sarcastic but I keep hearing this thing about O'Reilly dissing the team. Is there a link to it. Anyone?

No, it’s a stretch at best. Basically people are linking an interview a few weeks ago where he said he didn’t feel the team changed its strategy when they hit a wall against Florida, which people took as criticism of Keefe (which it may have been), with the reports that going to Nashville was a personal decision rather than money/term.

But at the time he gave that interview he was also very much still talking about returning, and by all reports was still considering the Leafs until the final hour. Those aren’t the actions of someone who thinks there’s a big problem in the room.

It is going to be hard to compete with JT and his contract.

if Nylander numbers are not right, would Calgary do Nylander for Lindholm ++

Nylander for Lindholm + Zadorov makes a lot of sense. With some picks or something sprinkled in to make it work.

Calgary should probably be moving their guys for prospects and picks, but that doesn’t seem to be the strategy they’re taking.

That’s one of the few possible trades that wouldn’t require a Nylander extension… if they can’t lock up Lindholm, they may make the swap.
I was also looking at NYR with K’Andre Miller but that may require a contract commitment from Nylander

I like it from our perspective. No idea why it's a 1 year deal from Bertuzzi's perspective...
Probably a very good chance if he puts up 60/70 points playing top 6 to cash in when the cap goes up by 10m in the next 2 years.

Glad we were able to scoop up one of the better forward free agents, now if we sign Domi, this will change our look our forward group.

Normally cautious here, but I really think we can count on Knies to be a good contributor this season. Robertson is such a wildcard, but I recall last year he was amazing in camp and really looked ready, the Malgin nonsense short curcuited his momentum and then of course this injury. Holmberg could be the fourth line C, but man Kampf in the three hole is underwhelming.

I think anyone must wonder why ROR choose Preds over Leafs and other teams(if any).
It definitely wasn’t money and term.
Preds is not close to winning anything unless Saros goes Godmode like Roy back in the 90s.
We all wonder why ROR didn’t sign with the Leafs since Leafs want him back.
