He at least won't be just f***ing handing pucks over to the other team like an "analytically good" Dman we had on our team last year was.

John Tavares is completely miscast as a leader on this team. He's kind of like a zero personality, low energy level Pierre Turgeon, whom people used to refer to as a "Tin Man", But he has a good reputation and a Hockey Canada afterglow from his early days that just stuck.

Auston Matthews is a complete chameleon. For me, he can exhibit the entire spectrum of leadership, defense, physicality, fiery compete. Everything you want. Or not. Mitch Marner isn't a leader, let's be serious. You can appreciate him for the good that he brings but I don't know who is following him into battle because he's not going in the battle.

William Nylander is not a leader, not tasked to be a leader and won't be a leader. He is a great number four offensive weapon if you have all your other ducks in a row, however.

Tavares was chosen for the captaincy just off optics alone. Good looking nice white Canadian-born/GTA born and raised local hockey hero who comes home to lead his hometown team to ultimate glory and victory. A local man who ends the insufferable long cup drought for the Leafs and Leafs nation. And he was in his late 20s when he signed here, and the captain of the islanders the year before, so because of that, he was viewed as a natural veteran leader and the perfect candidate to be captain of the leafs. Nothing against him as a person or man, but he is too timid and passive. Introverted doesn’t mean invisible and soulless. Sakic was introverted like Tavares but unlike him, he had fiery passion inside him and came in the clutch during the playoffs. Tavares playoff career has been average and kind of underwhelming so far. Only 44 points in 55 games…


Also marner, Matthews and nylander were infected by the career losers Thornton and Marleau early in their career. They all absorbed the timidity, lack of engagement/leadership, passivity and low energy of these veterans.

Just before signing Marleau in the summer of 2017, the core three and the rest of the maple leafs offered fierce opposition against the top seed the capitals in a intense, close, hard fought and competitive series. No one thought they would adopt these bad habits later in their career. Or they were already born losers, and we didn’t know it yet back then, because we didn’t see their true colors yet ? Looking back, the future was promising and exciting, we never expected the current disappointing results.

I've been tired of Dubas and the way he built the team. Same crap every year, only last year to he bring in a little grit and in my opinion too late. We finally have some bite on this team and I'm going to love seeing Tie Domi back in the stands. They are going to be fun to watch and with Reaves, this is going to be fun. If they can swing it and keep a signed Nylander, they would be potent but they need some dmen. Let's see now if Mathews gets jumped and no one reacts. We've had a bunch of ******* for too long. Sia Nara Dubas!

Seems like a long time since we signed a big time UFA

He's the answer for the prolonged need for top 6 power forward
 
Still in disbelief we signed Tyler Bertuzzi, in a good way. How many cups did we throw away riding Dubas
 
IF Keefe got balls, he will put Bert on PP1 with AM, MM, Willie and Kling and put JT, Reilly, Knies, Domi and Calle on PP2
