Yeah, it’s in the tweet by Servalli genius.
Damn so it must be legit...

Agreed. Too bad no one gives a rats ass about the regular season.I don't think the team views the players the same as the fans do (where the playoffs are concerned).
They just see then as top players that the team would be worse off without and very difficult to replace.
I understand wanting a core change, Matthews isn't the guy you change
What’s the move, walk?“This is just smart business” lmao.
We tried to sign him for longer. He said no. How tf is that smart business on managements part? You really have no clue at all about anything.
He wants 4 years so that in a few years time after the evidently huge cap bump he can ask for even more money. He is greedy as f***What’s wrong with it? Did Chicago enjoy toews the last 4 years of the deal? There’s nothing to say he doesn’t extend again in 4 years. 13.25 is a more than fine aav

Matthews lost a fan. I won't question his ability as an athlete at all. But how he has negotiated with Toronto, I hope he crumbles under this contract. f*** him
True. Marleau managed to get multiple high priced contracts after he entered his 30s. If Matthews is still productive he can definitely parlay that into more big deals. It’s a bet on himself and as annoyed as I am at his lack of a long term commitment I hope he’s great for a long while yet.
Exactly .2 years of marner if there is no improvement u build around Austin and McDavidPersonally I like the term. Leafs are not locked into his declining 30’s. If they haven’t won a cup when there’s 1 year left, trade him and begin a new rebuild.
The AAV is gross though

That’s up to Matthews. If he shows up in the playoffs and gets us over the hump then it’s not a bad dealCan we hate it until then?
It could beWouldn't it be nice to get your players tied down for 8 years like every other team it seem?
Really really dont like this
For sure but I don't think the team sees it as an either/or situation.Agreed. Too bad no one gives a rats ass about the regular season.
I'd rather take one cup over 20 president trophy seasons.
no but they sure as SHIT enjoyed THREE cups. What’s wrong with it? Did Chicago enjoy toews the last 4 years of the deal? There’s nothing to say he doesn’t extend again in 4 years. 13.25 is a more than fine aav
He’s a smart player. Do you think Chicago loved the last four years of toews deal? There’s nothing to say he can’t extend again then.He wants 4 years so that in a few years time after the evidently huge cap bump he can ask for even more money. He is greedy as f***
are they the same age?Fans: Omg why don't they sign for 8 years?
Also fans: omg this Tavares deal is horrible
Can't win with the group of perfect nhl analysts on leafs Hfboard
13.25 x 4 on a 88m cap projection isn’t taking every penny he can get. Good lord.Matthews is a self-absorbed ass, simply put.
Good on him getting every penny he can, but he can’t pretend that he did anything for the team here. He just perpetuated the pigs to the trough mentality that plagues these soft losers.
He just cost us either Nylander or Marner.
Right now, the only win we can have with this contract is if there is no NMC or NTC. Any word there?
So far none listed on capfriendly. That would be a huge win for the Leafs.I'm most interested in what the trade/movement clauses are. Would be nice to have the option of trading him after two years or so when his prime is pretty much done, but he'd still be worth a ton on the market.
Highest cap hit in the league by a substantial margin, when he’s more of a borderline top 5 player. Anyone saying “good AAV”, come on. IMO fair value (relative to other star contract signed recently) would have been ~$12 mil, which still would have made him the 3rd highest AAV in the league, behind MacKinnon and McDavid. $13.25 on player friendly term is him squeezing the team for every penny, just like last time.
With that being said, as a UFA in a year, with an NMC, he had the team by the balls. Giving him a bit too much $$$ is still a lot better than losing him for nothing. If we can get Nylander and Marner re-signed too, then we’ve got 5+ more years as a legit contender, hopefully we can win a cup in that time. We’d have a much better shot if Matthews, Marner and Nylander would all take a small discount, but keeping the window open for the next 5+ years is still better than starting a rebuild 1 year from now.
Obviously full NMC.Matthews is a self-absorbed ass, simply put.

I would dump him ina flash if McDavid decides to test UFA’s.
