Why go after Tulsky when we have the exact same thing in Pridham (maybe even better). Home grown and knows every aspect of the the roster's contracts, genius capologist, a good age etc. It may not be what Shanny wants but he cuts the learning curve by a country mile from some of the others mentioned.

Not everyone wants to be a GM though.

If the rumours are true about Shanny being the guy pulling the strings and micromanaging the GM, I have two questions:

1. What experienced GM would want to take on this mess under those conditions… being Shanny’s puppet?

2. Does it really matter who Shanny brings in, if he’s planning on controlling how the GM handles everything?
But we really don't know to what extent Kyle was micromanaged. And if there was intervention was it only in the last year or two when Shanny was starting to get pressure for more results from above? And does he want experience so that he can back the hell out of the GMs business? The rumors are just rumors and the fact is an experienced GM may be able to make hiring conditions that Shanny will just have to accept if the rest of the deal looks right. I would believe its maybe a problem if they cant make a hire but that hasnt happened yet.

That’s probably the reality of the situation. Of all the TOP MGT, only Dubas and Spezza left. The rest of them are still here, and I don’t see what’s the difference between now and Dubas being GM a week ago.
If AM and Willie want to sign, fine, if they want to price themself out, fine. Trade them and just build with JT and MM. Lets see what the so called best winger in hockey can do without a Rocket winner as his C.

Having said all that, I think it got to be a reason for Armstrong name in the mix.

They put out the Bat Signal to Armstrong and it's up to him to back channel if he's got an out clause or willingness to get out of St. Louis. Think that's how it works.

It’s not like it really matters which GM announces who the head scout tells them to announce. At best they set out frameworks of types of players to target unless it’s an important top-5 pick.

Meaning that Treliving surrounds himself with people that don't know how to draft.

This news was expected, but I'm still not happy about it.

I'm a big draft and develop guy, but at the same time the criticism against Treliving based on his draft record doesn't necessarily align well with where the Leafs are at the moment.

A guy like Jim Rutherford, whom I very much dislike, went into Pittsburgh, made a couple of hockey deals and turned an underachieving Penguins team relative to their core into a back to back champion. That's sort of the mission statement for whatever GM comes in to work in Toronto than someone with an enviable drafting record.

Obviously you can't really divorce drafting and contending entirely, but a 2018-2022 draft record shouldn't be the frame of reference for our candidates.
Plus we traded most of our picks anyways. He’s bad at it, we don’t have any, perfect ;)

I’ll take Pridham.

My god I have never seen a bunch of donkeys so obsessed with a GM than Leafs fans with Dubas. Everyone’s talking about how all these other GMs draft poorly outside the first round. Firstly, Dubas doesn’t even draft inside the 1st round cause he gives away 1st rounders like Costco samples and secondly wtf has Dubas done outside the first round other than Knies? Robertson stinks and who else is there? All these guys like Niemela are Matt Finn to me until they prove otherwise. And to make matters worse, Dubas almost traded Knies away to Chicago but Shanahan blocked it thankfully. Yeah, that was one of the trades that was referenced when the insiders reported about Shanahan vetoing deals. Dubas is by far the most overrated GM AINEC…and the obsession is just a whole other layer…my goodness

Honestly, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Treliving will do a good job here if we hire him.

I wish...
People are missing the bigger picture. The worry here is not that Shanahan is interfering. You want Shanahan between the Board and the team.

The worry is direct ownership meddling. It has been the downfall of this franchise for 50+ years.

Nothing I’ve seen or heard yet suggests that to me but I would like to see a real CEO back in place up there.

Unless Tavares has back to back like 30 pt years he is getting 6-7M on his next deal (3-4 year deal)

You said it yourself, he is "PPG" if you take 15 points of his UFA season total and say he has a 65 point season, then he won't sign for 1-2M cheap deal

He will get paid on final contract at 6ishM
He won't be getting paid that kind of money here.

Will judge by next playoffs. That’s the only way to judge, even trade of McD to Leafs or whatever, the judgement will be next playoffs.
If the team won’t even make the playoffs, great, it means the firing will be sooner and more time to look for a new President, GM…
If it is first round again, then it is the players
If it is second round but game 7, he earns another year.
If it is ECF, earns another year
If it is Cup Finals, earns another year
If it is is a Cup, build this man a statue.

I've always found Treliving active and I like active GMs, until they make a boneheaded move.

He's made some really solid trades and he's not afraid to deal. Out of all GMs that are out there and available, I'm okay giving him a chance.

Lol this fan base so dam toxic man.... and so dam hypocritical. Ever since I been a fan, and every time we were looking to hire a gm, I remember the fan base got the person who they wanted and they all turned out to be shit all other than Quinn. So people on here shitting on Trev makes me want him here even more. Maybe us fans shouldn't get the person we want!

Anyone who won’t let 16 and 34 walk all over em during contract talks is better than Dubas.

16 and 34 didn’t even walk all over Dubas sadly, guy did the same thing to Shanny.

Hey please over pay me during your moment of need.

This guy is a loser. He is the one that tanked Calgary.

I am going to say it. Firing Dubas was a huge mistake. The players loved him and he was a good GM.
Dubas was mediocre. The time to fire him was after the Montreal collapse. Firing him now, with all these contracts coming up for renewal is a massive cluster. If this blows up it's all on Shanahan, and he needs to be shown the door if Matthews doesn't re-sign, or they get a awful return for him.

I wouldn't mind trying Treliving for 1-2 years if it's Shanahan that is making all of the big macro decisions and Treliving is more of the negotiator/executor of the plan. Keep in mind it sounds like Shanny is making a lot of the decisions. Not 100 % sure but it sounds like that. If Treliving is just a pure labourer to execute Shanny's decisions it could make sense. In this type of role, I'd actually prefer Treliving to negotiate more then Dubas. But if it's a full GM role I would have preferred Dubas over Treliving.
Based on what proof exactly? A couple of Dubas buddys in the media kind of sort of toss that tidbit out there with no proof and now its truth? It just seems like those who are Dubas people are making excuses for the teams failure...it wasnt our buddy Kyle fault for anything because it was that bad man shanny who ruled over him and wouldnt let him do stuff that would probably maybe im pretty sure put the team over the top. Dubas emailed Shanny and said he wanted the job so....does that mean he was ok with that tyrant Shanny lording over him? I aint buying it.
