at least it doesnt end in 2031, and just happens to end the same season as one of the best UFA crops ever ...and a season before McDavid 'may' be available as a UFA if he makes it there.
I also have a feeling Tavares will resign ala Spezza for league min once his contract is done, or very cheap anyways if there is a mutual desire.
Now that we are nearing the end of it ya but we have already gone thru 5 years of its affect on the team

There are probably pics going around with Treliving and his Canucks PJs. Very scared he is going to be hired. Would be mortifying, his resume reads like lost players and overpays.

Chiarot + Copp + 3rd for Marner incoming

Everyone watch tkachuk trade like a huge mistake but wich choice did he really had...

The guy ask trade and didn't to come back in calgary... do you keep him out NHL without contrat all season, or resign him for a 1 year deal with a guy who dont want to be here and create a pretty bad atmosphere in locker room...

He had no choixe and get what he was able, he still get annhigh skill foward, a topb3 D and a 1st pick

He biggest mistake was maybe Sutter, thats working first seasom

Maybe, just maybe create a culture within the organization that Tkachuk and Gaudreau doesnt want to leave in the first place?

The guy had 9 years to do so. He failed.

What a disaster this will be.

His biggest mistake was re-signing Huberdeau to that contract and not flipping him at 5.9M or even 50% retention and starting a re-tool.
He just gave to huberdeau whats Gaudreau rejected

If he come back under new coach to the 90-100+/82 regular season game he was last 4 year before.. this deal will not look as bad.

And like i said earlier, if Calgary want to sign or keep player, they need to overpay players because its not a very exciting city to play in for every player... its a reality coming with the city... contract negociation are more much easier in Florida than Calgary...

I give you a choice between montreal, toronto, both florida team, dallas, california team, new york ... Calgary would be at the bottom of the list for 99% of people. So if you cabt get free agent at good price or keep your oen player at good price, how did you build a great team... draft and hoping everything goes perfectly and even most harder creating a team culture..

Toronto is not in the same situation, a lot of player want to play in Toronto, you dont living with the same reality.

This is the same fan mentality that let Dubas off the hook for the Matthews/Marner deals. Treliving paid him 10% more than a superior player in Tkachuk received 2 weeks prior. He's also signed until he's 37. It's a bad contract no matter how you want to spin it.

Tkachuk did sign in a no tax state with a team he forced himself to be traded to.
I imagine Calgary had to pay a little extra to appease their player who didn’t want to leave where he was.

If a calgary dont, they will never keep or sign anybody and will be forever in rebuild because nobody want to play in one of less exciting city to live in in NHL

I agree that they had to pay a premium for the player to play in Calgary but I don't think it was smart business. At that point you just maximize your asset and trade him as a rental instead of turning a positive asset into (maybe?) the worst contract in the league.

Getting rid of Dubas because of his lack of success to bring in noted "winner" Brad Treliving is certainly a call. I can't help but feel like we are witnessing this organization revert to much darker times right in front of us in real time.

The Flames were interested in Pridham replacing Treliving, so should we ;)

I can only hope. Treliving is the last thing I want to see around here because it will probably just be another Dubas shitshow just different. Opposite spectrum incompetence where I think if you can't get someone like McPhee, you really should just stick with Pridham.

Either someone comes in here and puts us on the right path to the Cup ASAP, or they totally pooch it quick, everyone gets fired and we start again.

I don't know why but I think Shanny and Prids would get us on the right path. I am just going by the terrible trades and philosophy Dubas had with NuHockey. None of that was ever going to work and it just became wasted years.

Normally I am hesitant to give a guy like Shanahan a second chance but I have a sneaky suspicion that the board itself had a big role in putting Dubas in the chair in the first place. Call me crazy but thats what I think because does the hockey Dubas sold even sound like Shanahan hockey? Nooope.

Oh this will definitely be the case. I'm not the biggest Dubas fan, but based on the overall situation the Leafs were in, I think you had to bring him back cause if not, it is going to quickly turn into a complete disaster. Not sure what other people thought when Dubas was fired, who would replace him lol. I have almost zero faith in this org right now, and its basically back to the Burke/Nonis days.

Thanks Rogers for blocking the extension last summer. You just love f***ing Canadians.

Dubas was a mess, look at all the assets lost compiled for viewing in the threads. There's a pretty comprehensive list of his trash GManship. Pridham is way smarter and more in line with Shanahan about building teams hard to play against. What do you think happened here to suddenly cause NuHockey the flop to be abandoned and Shanahan blocking trades etc? He was running the show and it's documented now Pridham made trades like ROR and Schenn happen.

Get over your boy Dubas, he is gone. Good riddance too.

His drafting record is abysmal, if he is the hire I hope he lets the scouts do their jobs.
I really don’t want Treliving as GM but I wanted to check out his draft record to see if it was as bad as people think.

List of players drafted by Flames since 2014-15 season when Treliving came on board:
Andersson, Kylington, Mangiapane, Tkachuk, Dube, Fox, Pelletier, Wolf as nhlers.
Coronado, Poirier, Zary, maybe Phillips, as prospects with potential. May have missed some who don’t jump out but they wouldn’t be any different than every teams depth prospects.

So not awful but not good for 7 years of work. He had some draft years that were complete misses (especially more recent ones), but didn’t have particularly high picks except for Tkachuk (great) and Valimaki(bad). So it’s not as bad as I thought but definitely not inspiring.

Calgary Flames suck and so does Treliving. How can anyone trust him with the Matthews/Marner/Nylander re-signings after he butchered the Flames. Kadri/Coleman/Huberdeau/Weegar, trading Tkachuk #FranchiseKiller

Got it, so really has nothing to do with Tkachuk which I agree with.
Your early post made it seem like you were comparing the two contracts.
