Most people on the main boards hate the Leafs so this makes sense to me. Most of us hated the trade the second it happened and were extremely vocal about it. It was a terrible trade the second it went down and should have disqualified Dubas from making another.

Lol no, it became a terrible trade after Kadri had a freak year on the powerplay and almost put up 90, then all of a sudden everyone knew that Kadri always had it in him. Even though the season before that he put up a 16 goal 45 point pace again, got suspended in the playoffs again, had his defensive game fall off a cliff, and had Avs fans spamming threads to get rid of him all offseason.

You can hate getting rid of grit and our edge or whatever, but we got the same amount of praise on the value of the deal at the time that Tre got on the Tkachuk trade. Both guys go on Cinderella runs and all of a sudden everyone knew all along that they’re both Smythe level players.

Coronato looks promising with Calgary from 2020

Wolf from 2019 draft was amongst the best goalies not in the NHL

Not sure what Pelletier is yet, Sutter didn't exactly give him a ton of chances.

2015 and 2016 drafts are *chef's kiss*
The 15 and 16 drafts were excellent by him with 3 NHL players coming from each, including 2 superstars. The 19 Draft with Pelletier and Wolf and the 20 draft with Zary, Kuznetsov and Poirer still have a decent chance to turn out that way as well. The rest is a big ouchy
Pros: I don't mind the trades. Even the Tkachuk was one fine considering how little leverage he had.

Cons: Awful UFA signings. Post 2016, his draft record looks worse than Toronto's.

This is true and most people thought Treliving did very well in moving Tkachuk given the circumstances.
Definitely praised him for the move he did with the hand-tied. Yet, more or less we are going to stay status quo as both seem and carry similar views frankly.

I Hope Shanny gets an idea from other candidates about what could be a different view to get us over the hump.

There has been other people mentioned, but it feels everyone has mentioned Treliving as the front runner.

Treliving is mid. He's not the best candidate, not he worst. Hard to get excited for off the bat.
I mean interviews. Could be going on privately. But so far Treliving is the only confirmed candidate to get an interview. His job to lose etc. etc.

Can the OP do a disclaimer and tell people that an interview does not mean that Treliving is now the new GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I would hope that Shanny would go beyond 1 interview.

Shanahan is doing his due diligence by interviewing Treliving who is an available ex-GM of an NHL team.
Does anyone really think Treliving isn't getting the job at this point? It's happening and we all know it.

If I were to guess Shanny probably put out some long shot feelers to some big names on the off chance they'd be interested, while positioning Treliving as the safety net.

I'd say there's a fairly high probability he's named by the end of next week unless we get lucky

He screwed up the Kadri and Markstrom UFA signings.

He screwed up the Fox and Tkachuk trades.

He let his franchise player Gaudreau walk for nothing.

This is the guy...fk off.

Nill? Does he have an out clause like Armstrong?
Not sure but he only has 1 year left

I dont buy Shanny will hire someone within a week. Seems too premature. I say 3 weeks from now so around June 15. I think Shanny just started and will be interviewing at least 5 top end people for the gig.

Kadri and markstrom are fine.
The tkachuk trade was good value. It was universally praised.

Fox didn’t want to sign. He was turned into lindholm

The gaudreau was a massive mistake.

He better have learned from that.

Based on the names thrown around, I don't see any top end candidates. Only if Armstrong or Nill were made available.

Fox didn't want to sign entre level deal and tkachuk wanted to leave 1 year away of hit free agency...

Calgary was one of top 3 team in west, he was supposed to tell at his own player... youre not good enough so i will trade gaudreau?!?!?!

PUNCHING A Ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals w/ Florida Panthers' Sam Bennett

The Ray & Dregs Hockey Podcast

The guys wrap headlines with news from around the NHL, including the Pittsburgh Penguins' interest in Kyle Dubas, if Brendan Shanahan is overstepping with his assurances to the ‘core-4’ in Toronto, and Craig Conroy’s first big decision as Flames GM.

I am not for him either but he did not screw up those trades for Fox and Tkachuk. Tkachuk wanted out and Fox refused to sign coming out of college

All I heard was excuses. Should we expect more excuses for our big guys?

Good GMs find a way in bleak circumstances, we are in a bleak situation right now.

Based on his recent history, he does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. He screwed up major moves for his last franchise. He better come correct if he's the GM. Right now he's guilty until proven innocent imo.

See above response.
He acquired a 115 pt winger, a 1B center and 2 top 4 d men for 2 players who weren't going to re-sign. How much better do you expect someone to get? Not every trade is going to be a home run. That's a pretty damn good haul for having little to no leverage.

Didnt create a winning environment for players to want to stay. Lost the best players in the trades bc they didn't want to stay and overpaid on all his major signings.

Terrible.
