It won’t really matter who gets hired. The good GM’s are signed and they still have warts too.

A lot of fans wanted Dubas gone but it looks like whoever his replacement will be has as many or more warts then Dubas.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

I just want a GM that drafts well and had great people working for him. Big decisions on contracts or big trades will go thru shanny anyways.

One thing for sure….a lot of fans won’t be happy and opposing fans will be talking trash about whoever we hire.

To top it off….the Toronto media will fabricate stuff or have opinions that fans will think is gospel. They will stir the pot over and over again and players will leave because of the circus here.

Until the league fixes the tax discrepancy between the US and CDN markets this will happen. Same goes for low tax states vs high tax states. The league is essentially a joke at the cap level so markets like CGY where these guys don't want to live lose players. I wouldn't want to stay in CGY or EDM when I could go south and take a few less bucks, still make more and have access to tons of perks.
Or Canada gIves athletes a tax break to make it competitive. I’m fine with that, given the economic contribution their presence would bring.

Someone came up with a more extensive list of questionable contracts from Treliving.

Calgary and Edmonton have to way overpay for guys to go there .. guys just don't want to live there long term unless your a prairie boy/skier .. winters are just too brutal and flying is a pain in da *ss from Alberta .. no one wants to hear it but it is way too isolated a place

Conroy admitted this in his press conference.

To be fair, similar excuses are used for the Leafs when signing players. Our excuses are usually high taxes and cold weather.

At some point da CAP has to get AXED .. da league is bush league .. it will never be best on best due to CAP .. maybe some of you guys like watching Cats vs Canes or Dallas vs Vegas but to most of us over 50 this is southern who cares .. espn reports 1st round playoffs Boston and NY tv markets were up 22% over 2022 .. but then 2nd round numbers dropped 15% below 2022 as Boston and NY tuned out and rumours are 3rd round is a disaster .. can you imagine cats vs vegas?????? maybe worst tv numbers ever recorded .. and this is ESPN folks a much better media

That kind of attitude needs to stay out of sports. If this is how people want to see things we might as well shrink the amount of teams in the league to only the markets that pull the best TV ratings and fan approval so people aren't complaining if a team like Florida makes it to the final by beating all the top teams in the league in 1 playoff run. Saw it a lot in the NBA this year with people complaining about a possible Heat vs Nuggets final just because they're mad LeBron won't make it and possibly the Celtics.

If there is 'a ton of interest in the job', then there should be more intriguing candidates than Treliving, no?
The best GMs typically remain employed...unless someone wants this job enough to convince their current employer to let them go, the candidates may not be all that intriguing.
