Odds are only 1 or 2 guys from this draft will have an NHL career anyway. We aren't actually making our team small here.

Exactly. People act like these guys will be the whole team in 2018 ...
When in fact all these late rounders and small/skill guys are all now competing for 1-2 spots maybe ...

Timashov reminds me a bit of the old Russian national team players from the early days, short, stocky wingers in red jerseys with CCCP on their chests. They skated well, passed brilliantly and gave fits to Canada's best. That's a matter of appearance. It would be great if if it were also a matter of skill and results.

My the way, my IPad auto corrected his name to Times hog. I caught it just in time!

i remember reading an article where it said there was a larger relation between body weight and durability in the nhl, rather than height and durability. i wish i could find it now, but does anyone doubt that if crosby was 160, he'd be able to survive in the nhl today? tima is around 190. he'll be fine if his other skills get polished.

Why is that? He was born in the Ukraine.

If he considered himself Ukranian, wouldn't he be playing for Ukraine internationally?

Just like the article says it: people feel more comfortable with a Swedish prospect than a Russian/ Ukrainian one.

Nylander was born in Canada, but I suppose people are more comfortable with Swedish prospects than Canadians too.

Well I guess Marner's screwed then.

1 win, lose 1 I suppose.

marners screwed if he stays at 160 his whole nhl career imo with the average weight probably being 30 pounds of muscle heavier. i can't see him going injury free with that height and weight in the nhl.

i doubt he stays there as there are many strength and conditioning programs.

Timashov moved to Sweden when he was 7 years old. While he may be ethnically Ukrainian, he was trained in Sweden & identifies himself as Swedish (using the fact that he plays for Sweden internationally as evidence).

I notice Timashov has suddenly recieved a lot more votes in the prospect poll.

Still, it's amazing that so many people see a potential 4th liner in Sam Carrick as a better prospect.

I'm very satisfied with the Leafs' strategy to swing for the fences with higher skill players regardless of the size, passport or other perceived weaknesses. I can see having your favourite prospects but that shouldn't be license to randomly hype one of them without the player playing a single game since being picked in the 5th round of the 2015 draft.

There was nothing random about the hype. It was well-argued case for why he compares very favorably against very good players.
