Why does anyone need this advice? Your opinions and posts are just bizarre recently.
yeah the original post was pretty dumb, not really worthy of a response.
Most people seem to think this isn't 'meaningless' and would like to see some type of response.
To each their own. Some people get it, some don't.

Yeah, it's the first game vs the team that eliminated us, there was tons of dirty plays in the series, lots of scrums etc. It's the most meaningful game of the year so far. It's probably the best team we're playing against so far.

Sucks they're missing a lot of guys, but I expect maximum intensity. I don't know how anyone can suggest it's a meaningless game. Every game counts towards the standings, and these are the guys that eliminated us.

This is misleading. He’s never been 0.5 in his career so not sure why you are including that in the range you put. He’s been close to .9 points his career but don’t see you mentioning that in your range. He’s also played for crap teams over the past few years, so don’t think it’s unreasonable for someone to expect he’d perform better on the leafs.

It’s been 3 games so far, which is nothing really, but regardless he’s been bad so far along with most of our team.
371/584 is 0.63 PPG
291/584 is 0.498 PPG - 5v5 points.

Playing for crap teams... like Chicago, gave him the opportunity to play top PP time, and top 5v5 time. That's when you see his stats exaggerated. He won't get either the 5v5 time, the top linemates, or top PP with us... unless somehow you disagree?

He's going to have reduced time with us, reduced opportunity, and possibly reduced linemates. Especially if he ends up on the third line, as he'll play tonight.

The point was... given reduced time, reduced PP and opportunity, we really shouldn't expect anything more, than 0.5PPG from him, which is the rate he's scored his whole career, 5v5. Other point, if you are expecting more from him than that, you'll likely be disappointed.

I just replied back to another thread with this poster regarding this. We are all strangers and leaf fans here but there responses to posts are not healthy. I just hope they are doing in the real life as the way they respond to such meaningless stuff does worry me. I just hope all is well and they don’t take this stuff with strangers so seriously.
Agreed. I've watched every Leaf game I can for over 50 years now, probably fair to call it an addiction. Having said that, I couldn't agree more that some people take these discussions way too seriously. It's a hockey team FFS and while like I said, it's something like an addiction for me, it's still way far down on the list of things in life that are important to me.

Re. the bolded - based on what? I only ask because you seem to have a habit of saying things like "most people" think this or that, and I'm pretty sure you're wrong much of the time. I'd also say that this is one of those times, and a large number of people (possibly even a strong majority) would say that any game in October is relatively meaningless, especially when compared to a playoff series.

This game is completely meaningless.. If we win. If we lose oh boy.

That is the curse of Leaf nation.

I mean, you showed he averages 0.5 ES points per game right there. Agreed he likely won’t play as much time per game, but you know how Keefe shuffles his lines. He’ll play with our top players at least some point which will be way better than the other “top” players he’s been with. He’ll tack on some secondary pp points too.

Add on the fact that there will be injuries giving him more opportunity, he’s playing for a contract, and he’s playing for his hometown team, and I think it’s more than reasonable to hope for more than 0.5 per game. He’s a very good offensive player, if he doesn’t hit 0.5, it will be a disappointing season.

Look no farther than jarnkrok last season, above 0.5 per game and a worse offensive player.

Average career TOI, 16:12... and so far in Toronto, 12:17. Somehow there is an expectation that in 75% of his average TOI, he's going to put up 100% of his career average production? That would be very solid results if he's at that, not disappointing at all.

I have stayed away from these boards, aside from the odd check-in, for quite a few years now, and it’s because watching hockey was less fun because of it. This place has a lot of miserable people, miserable about a game that’s supposed to be fun/entertainment, and that they have zero control over.

I’m excited to watch the Leafs every time they’re on, and while a loss is disappointing, and playoff losses suck more, I can put it away, and get excited for the next game/season pretty much right away

I’m really looking forward to tonight’s game. I think putting Knies up in the lineup is the right move. I think he’s done okay with Minten but asking two rookies to drive a line is asking a lot. I think we see something closer to the Knies we saw in the playoffs tonight. In regards to Florida, I hated their flip the puck out and chase it style of play that seemed to be pretty effective against us. Would like to see if this itineration of the Leafs handles that better.

Lucky you.
I have no other alternative, can't just work all day.

With Ekblad, Montour and Bennet out, I expect more of this tonight. Not sure what version of the Leafs we will see tonight. Panthers home opener so they might be hungry.

As he searches for the optimal deployment, Keefe has promoted Knies to the left of the red-hot Tavares-Nylander duo, Domi's initial assignment, in advance of Thursday's rematch against the Florida Panthers.

To that end, Keefe has couched Domi (minus-3) with the responsible Calle Järnkrok and Fraser Minten on a new-look third line. A safer option considering the coach won't have last change during the upcoming five-game road trip.

I fear that Keefe believes the key to coaching is to find that "optimal" line up rather than teaching the team to play situationally based on opponent or how a game is unfolding.

Why does it have to be either/or, instead of both?

Willy and Tavares each have four points 5v5... they are both really playing well. Domi hasn't done much for them, and has only one point. Domi is new, and they are trying to find the right place for him... that doesn't mean that they aren't to teach them other things.

Besides, Knies worked pretty well with those guys last year. Domi isn't. Not everything is going to work together.

Well, 12:17 because he’s sucked so far and we’ve sucked so far in general so out stars are plying a lot…. he’ll play more than that eventually. Regardless, even in 21-22 he averaged only 13 per game and was above 0.5 still. This guy has been around the league and played on multiple teams and multiple situations and has never been 0.5 ppg.

So even if he stays on the third line and second pp for the whole season, I am expecting 0.5 per game. But he’ll get more opportunity than that and I am adjusting my expectations accordingly.

Will I be disappointed? Maybe. But it’s the Leafs we’re talking about… I’m getting disappointed every year.

Bertuzzi Matthews Nylander
Domi Tavares Marner
Knies Kampf Jarnkrok
Gregor Minten Reaves

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Giordano Liljegren

* See how the team is defensively overall with a more defensive slant to the forward group & how it affects the play of the defensive pairings, if things don’t improve then mix up the defensive pairings. After that pray & hope.

I’m disappointed that Florida has injuries for not just this game, but the start of this season. It means they can’t see that their Cinderella run on the back of insane .943 goaltending through 2.5 rounds, was exactly that, until next season.

A win would be nice but all I really want from this game is Bennet's blood

Just saw Bennet wasn't dressed.. he must of got a Reeves flu or something, I heard that's going around lately...
Knies should be taking care of him. Kid is big enough. Would make a man out of him...win or lose

wasn't aware they were splitting up Matthews & Marner, in any case, the previous lineup is what i'd like them to try & see.

My bad.. I copy and pasted someone else's, and missed that. They aren't splitting them up. I will correct that.
