Leafs need to address the goaltending.

We give up 33 shots with 10 Medium Danger Shots, and 3 High Danger shots... the expected goal against is 3.123.... and he let's in 3. Meanwhile, we get 3 Medium Danger shots, and 1 High Danger shot.....
Are you for real lol

Like, this is getting to be funny. We give up 33 shots with 10 Medium Danger Shots, and 3 High Danger shots... the expected goal against is 3.123.... and he let's in 3. Meanwhile, we get 3 Medium Danger shots, and 1 High Danger shot.....

Did you watch this game. Did you not see the team's lazy effort, and basically Woll bailed us out here... and Willy did in OT too. If your hope is that some magical goalie, is going to be able to rescue lazy play, and poor defensive play, you are sadly mistaken.

Time and again, hot takes that are bad. We didn't deserve to win yesterday morning, and we did. Woll was a big reason the game was close... we got lucky there.

Time and time again huh? You mean like being among the first people to say that Jack Campbell was dog shit, because he was playing like dog shit, and now he's in the AHL because he is in fact dog shit.

While the rest of you lived in denial I was correct.

You mean like being one of the only ones not to IMMEDIATELY proclaim Joseph Woll a #1 goalie got off to an impressive start, I was one of the only ones saying let's not call him a legitimate #1 until he proves it.

Fast forward a couple months and he's struggling bad and has been for awhile but just like Campbell people are living in denial.

Saying Garrett Sparks was going to suck, and he did.

Nobody is right 100% of the time but my average is pretty good.

Word is Nashville will extend Saros, making Askarov potentially available. If Nashville added a good defenceman like McDonagh to Askarov would you move Nylander?

We'd balance the cap structure, massively improve the defence for the win-now window, and solve the G position for a decade.

Nah.... and it's wrong this time too. How many threads last year... and wrong again.

It's the D, the team D overall.. fix that, be patient and wait for Samsonov's game to come around, and it is... and we will be fine.

Samsonov has been a 0.931 and 0.939 the last two games.

Woll was 0.917 against Minny, and let in less goals than expected, as the team went through lazy play.

The goaltending will be fine, we need to fix lazy play, and lazy team D all around.

Alex Nylander? Maybe

William isn't going anywhere.

Saros would be a good add. I won't lie, I would like to see an upgrade on our goaltending

It will defintely cost us one of our prospects and a 1st rounder

Our goaltending may not be fine. Sammy has flaws and Woll is still relatively unproven and hasnt carried a heavy workload basically ever.

Still, your breakdown of the goals against v chances was spot on. Were noticeable leakier defensively than we have been in recent years.

Our goaltending is a big question mark, as usual. I'm still optimistic though, we'll see what happens. But leaky as hell as a team, no doubt about it. Getting everyone back on D will help but that won't be enough, everyone still has to start playing a lot better than we have been. Our W/L record is all smoke and mirrors.

I don't disagree with you.... bottom line, the Defensive issues of our team need addressing first... whether that is by coaching, or changing personnel, until that is addressed, who is in net doesn't matter too much.

Interesting piece from today.

Edmonton is going to back up the truck for a Saros trade...so no point even asking them. I doubt even Hasek could save the Oilers at this point....they have just given up.

With what cap space? Edmonton would have to move out money to bring in a guy like Saros.

I find comments like, he let in 1 goals less than we expected him to…….that’s a defeatist attitude. I “expect” my goalie to not “let” any in.

Notice that you didn't qoute the entire post, didn't have the guts, to respond to all the things I brought up that I was right about

I tried playing Oilers GM in capfriendly for 2024-2025. They basically have like no cap space in the summer if they sign a starting goalie and fill out the roster with minimum salary players. It isn't pretty.

Who agrees with the list? Apparently Freddy made the top 10 list....

Yikes. Broda/Bower/Potvin is a good top 3, but Freddy 5 when Cujo didn’t even make the list? Pretty bad.

Cujo was only here 4 years, but it was a great 4 years. Took us to the 2nd round or deeper every year, including 2 trips to the conference finals. Since 1967, we haven’t made the finals once, and only the conference finals 4 times, so 2 in 4 years with Cujo says a lot! He was consistently excellent, in the regular season and especially in the playoffs. In those 4 years he was an all-star twice, and finished 2nd in Vezina voting one year (behind only Hasek), 3rd another.

Freddy was here slightly longer, 5 years, but he wasn’t as good and accomplished a lot less. It’s really not even close.

1/2 is Broda/Bower, 3/4/5 is Potvin/Cujo/Sawchuk in arguable order, Freddy had some good seasons with us but is not remotely in the top 5 conversation.

Solve the goalie position for a decade based on his one game of NHL experience?

They can send McJesus here where he always wanted to be. That will free up some money. We just need to dump some ourselves to get him in a Leafs jersey. Any more candidates for Robidas Island?

I find the whole 'expected' thing to be pathetically stupid. Reality matters, nothing else.

Reimer 2010-11 and 2012-13 season were the greatest performance I'd ever seen of a Leafs goalie. I can't think of anyone who has come close. Keep in mind, Reimer was not playing on a good team, he willed that team into the playoffs. Was never the same after the Plekanec hit unfortunately for us. But has has a resurgence the last few years.
