Leafs need to address the goaltending.

The problem is It's not 1 bad goal.

It's AT LEAST 1 bad goal EVERY night.

That's why I don't blame the defense at all, because there is ALWAYS AT LEAST 1, even in wins where you go "he's got to have that."

Just recently there was 2 against the NYI, 1 against Colorado, at least 1 against Detroit and 1 against Edmonton.

That's 5 in the last 4 games alone.

That's been the difference.

That's the right call trading Knies would have been bad.

Holl for Caufield would have been terrible too, I mean 6'4 is always better than 5'7

So wtf is going on. Is there a goalie in play or not.

Those 4 losses in a row could have easily been 4 wins in a row. Jones is giving average goaltending now, not above average. Weirdest stretch of losses ever. Flip a coin and we have 19 of the last 20 points.

It was a fun little party when he went through a .93% stretch but it's time to make moves. We at least know we have a capable backup in Jones but still need a no.1

Anyone have an update on Woll?
High ankle is supposed to be a 6-8 week recovery time fort most athletes. 6 weeks was January 18th. Keefe said on the 14th it was possible he would make the western road trip with the club but he never hinted JW was going to practice yet. So on schedule for right after the break. If he was ready for the 27th I think we would need to hear more pretty much immediately.

That’s for a grade 1 sprain, a grade 3 sprain could be 6 months (Crosby missed 29 games)

Hopeful our boy is back.

I think Sammy has looked pretty good between the pipes since his "time out". I think it might have been his best game of the year for his positioning/fundamentals. Got some great D tonight, too.

He was good tonight, he didn't have to do a ton but he did what he had to.

That said he's going to have to do A LOT more.

Tonight was a start but It's only a start.
He got us 2 points flat out .. everyone knows it and you probably do too .. he apparently reached out to give da crown to Matty and Matty did right thing and gave it back to him.. it was deserved .. credit Sammy with only reason we got 2 points and not ZERO which team deserved

Like I said the other day, I think he is going to carry this on a streak over the next little while.

It’s a market correction. Of course he wasn’t going to stay in the .860s save % for the whole season. Same thing is happening to Jones, except the other way. Let’s see for how long Samsonov can stay hot. I still have no faith in him, even after last season’s fluky .919 save %. He was total dog in the playoffs, save 1 game.

The post you qouted was in reference to the Seattle game not last night.

As for last night, I said in the post game thread that might have been his best games as a Leaf just based on those 2 on 0 short handed saves alone I'm not sure how he did that but he did it.

he's been so bad for so long that he's got a LONG way to go before I'm willing to take an L on This topic, but the last 2 games were a start.

Hopefully he can do it, I WANT to be wrong.

But we aren't there yet, not even close.

It likely won't matter in the end. Woll will be the starter, and the Leafs won't resign Samsonov in the off-season whether they win the Cup or not.

Woll can't be the starter if he can't stay healthy.

Seeing as he got hurt on a muffin shot and Has been out what? 2 months, and the last thing we got is he was nowhere near returning so let's say another month at least.

He's going to be out for 3-4 months by the time he gets back I'm not sure why you are so convinced he's the starter.

Regardless they are going to have to bring in somebody before next season because both Samsonov and Jones are free agents and I doubt either comes back.

First bold: because he is a really, really good goalie. Much better than the other two.
Second bold: completely agree. I suppose there is an off-chance they resign Jones, but I'm sure he will be looking for something more than a one year deal.

Ultimately, win or lose, I don't see how they would have the cap space to bring Samsonov back at his current salary.
