Need to sort out our PK and holding leads
They haven't sorted that out in 7+ years, so I doubt that it won't be until a new head coach is brought in !!!

If your going to be passive with the PK, then you better block shots and box out the opposition in the front of your net !!!

The Leafs played a pretty good game. I liked the speed of the 4th line. McMann was terrific.

Once again, Matthews proves he can’t carry a line and doesn’t show up in big games. He needs Marner so open the wallet and pay Marner or you lose two players if you don’t, Matthews and Marner. .

The reffing was once again incompetent. Those calls on McCabe and Kampf were weak.

Benoit has to draw back in for Brodie or Keefe is just plain stubborn. He learns too slowly what works and doesn’t.

PP needs Marner. PK needs a new system.

Can't blame this on Samsinov... there were so many one timers, and great shots on him, that I was surprised that the Hurricanes were not up 4 goals on us. He played an amazing game, the last 3 minutes, were frantic hockey that would of been hard for most goaltenders to handle.

I will agree with those that felt that Benoit should have played, and Brodie should have sat, and no reason to have both JT and WN on at the same time, if at all when the other team is rushing us offensively.

As for as coaching change, kind of late in the season to be nit picking, this should have been done way earlier. Can't see a new coach being clued in to how lines play with each other this late in the season and so close to the playoffs... at this point, you just need to go with the coach you have.

That said, I don't see any harm in someone above the coach to give him a stern talking to, and pointing out the problems most fans see that he does not seem to be addressing at any point in the game. If he goes with what is communicated to him, he may just like the results of it and become a better coach due to it... so I think a stern 1on1 would benefit all.

But Toronto, who wins one series every 20 years, is? You're obviously an expert on playoff hockey.
1 series win in exactly 2 decades

Is there anything worse in all of professional sports?

I would guess at the very least that this is the worst record of all 32 teams at this exact moment in time? Any other team in the league sporting a worse playoff record right now? Or do we somehow own the worst record of all?

Before we sign Marner to 14M x8 Years, Matthews did score in 3 of his last 4 games.

When you have a 3-0 lead and a 4-2 lead and blow them both and lose in the shoot out……yes it is a total choke job and most certainly a loss
I get that since they gave a goal with 6 seconds it feeks worse but realistically putting too much weight behind a shootout win or loss is a bit silly, however your point is well taken.

I watched a lot of their games and they are lacking the toughness to win big, as you saw tonight.
I said earlier that they look like the same team they have been for the last few years. I don't see playoff success with that forward group or that goaltending. They will easily get through the first round because the third seed in the Metro will not be a good team, but they may not get much further than that.

IF that's really the case, maybe we should try and obtain someone else to play with Matthews?

Our only option is Mitch Marner? No one else can set up Matthews for less than 12M? Maybe not, but we should take a pause before we lock $26M in M&M.

Marner could not set a sh*t vs Bruins, while Matthews can score vs Sabres on his own.

On the bright side, we have another reason to overpay Mitch. The last time it was no bonuses on ELC, plus a mean Mike, you have to pay for that. Glad we found something this time!

Samsonov not good enough.
There's 2 problems with this guy that just scream "no confidence"

-When a puck sails past and behind him, or hits the post behind him: he freezes up for 1 second as if he doesn't know what just happened or what the f* to do... other goalies recover immediately and attempt to get back into position, but Sammy just stands still like he's been shellshocked.. even if it's just for a literal second... but it's a bad look. It makes the fans anxious (you guys know what I mean here) and also the players... it's like he's supposed to be the goaltender but he doesn't know ho to react...

-When a goal is scored on him, he sometimes slumps down on the ice and buries his head like he's been defeated... just like he did tonight (was it the 2nd goal or the tying goal?) Either way, he did just that, and it's a very weak look on his part. Don't do that. Remier used to do that, and he was famous for doing that when Boston scored that overtime goal in game 7.... he lay down on the ice and buried his head... pathetic. That's a real loser reaction and totally sinks the rest of the team. Samsonov did that tonight as well.

These little things are why we will never trust him.. these kinds of reactions really sinks the rest of the team.

In no world is JT a defensive specialist, especially when short a skater (EN included). Keefe would know this from years ago. That had better be the last time he morons around with that idea of having him in defensive situations.
Keefe doles out ice time based on how much they’re paid.

Canes should have taken the L. Be much better off finishing 2nd and getting Philly or the Islanders as opposed to catching the Rangers for 1st in the Metro and facing Tampa Bay.

Bertuzzi great game
Domi great game
Robertson great game could have had 2 more goals
McMann keep up the great work

Reeves in Gregor out

I'm not blaming the refs for this. No excuse to blow a 3-0 lead on home ice.

This will be the norm through the rest of the season unfortunately as the Leafs are pretty much set in 3rd place & so (they think they) really have nothing to play for at this point.

Agreed.

That said, that Kampf call was oof.

But Leafs dug their own grave on this one. Still, they probably eek it out without that ticky-tack call.
