It seems like top guys try to do fancy plays 99% of the time and they just seem so obvious and slow in trying to pull it off. Watching Sam Jose they just played fast and reacted quickly without overthinking and won the game. Lots of cute turnovers tonight all over the ice, totally unnecessary.

Matthews/Marner line was absolutely useless, legit terrible. Hutch sucked too. Bottom 6 was very good, but that's about it.

It's very early, I'm not gonna freak out yet, but I am slightly concerned about our offence. This team is built to have our big 4 forwards absolutely dominate games and demolish the opposition - if that's not happening, we're not a good team. Nylander has been great, but Marner, JT and Matthews have all been playing some of their worst ever hockey. Not sure what's going on there, but what should be an exciting, dynamic offensive group is just brutal.

Especially Marner - the league's 2nd highest paid winger is now at 0 goals, 1 assist, -3 through 5 games, and is perfectly healthy. WTF Mitch? Dude is in playoff mode already.

Even worse than their performance was their “effort” … Marner looks like any creativity he used to play with was coached out of him after a few years in the NHL. Totally uninspired to watch him skate into a corner and just have the Dman take the puck away from him like taking away a baby’s candy
