Player I feel bad for the most consistently on this team is Spezza. Guy is in the twilight of his career putting absolutely everything out there only to consistently since the day he stepped foot in this organization get absolutely nothing back in return from what is supposed to be our best players.

Slap the C on him.

I said it to friends I’ll say it here, I think the entire TML fans are just so tired of the talk “we need to be better-I didn’t really play well, etc”.

If this team is still a mess by Christmas or beyond you start selling pieces and take a step back. It’s becoming painfully clear our core are not leaders and our cap structure is preventing us from having a successful team. Trade Rielly, and who ever else isn’t tied down and we can get a boatload of assets for. I don’t trust this management team but hopefully before they are shown the door they can put us in a good bounce back position.

Matthews played really bad, just a really horrible and unnecessary give away on the third SJ goal. Also a bad give away on the empty net when we had momentum. That being said Hutchinson didn’t help. He was brutal. But still Matthews/Marner have to get it figured out, no more excuses they just have to.
That was Matthew's first bad game this year tho to be fair.

We didn't play very well, but I still think we could have won with Campbell in net. I'm not excusing the play of our top guys, but Keefe also took an unnecessary gamble with Hutch and lost.
I mean Hutch is going to get in games. As a fanbase we raged at Babcock being firm in his ways with the number 1 going first against the weaker opponent and then we would end up playing our backup against like Boston or something. Keefe does the opposite and now he made an unnecessary gamble.

Maybe it's time to go something like

Bunting Matthews Spezza
Engvall Kerfoot Nylander
Ritchie Tavares Kase
Simmonds Kampf Marner

Give each of "the big 4" a line of there own to drive. Mitch being demoted to the 4th line worked back in his rookie year, maybe he needs it again.

Keefe doesn't have the balls to send the big boys a message.

Not all of us. We just got drowned out. Babcock's policy on goalies was 100% correct.

And he at least has an excuse after missing most of training camp and the first 4 games (plus recovering from wrist surgery still). But still, that doesn't excuse that horrid giveaway.

The general rule most coaches follow is to play your best goalie in the 1st game of a back to back when the team is fresh in front on him and it gives you your best chance of winning the game, its not really so much about the opposition. This provides the best highest odds of a team at least coming away with a split in back to back games, by securing the win in the 1st game of the set.

If Campbell had played the Leafs likely win this game, as SJ was playing their 3 game in 4 nights against a well rested Leafs team.

Now the Leafs face a rested opponent tonight in the Pens, and risk losing both games this weekend.

Funny how Hyman can score with McD but could not score at this pace with Marner and AM.
Can imagine the meltdown if Hyman can put up numbers with McD in the playoffs bc part of the advanced stats peeps here kept saying Hyman was a main reason why AM and MM could not get any points.
I believe the term was 'where offense went to die"

It always gave me a chuckle in how absolutely sightless it was.

Guests opinion : why does Mathhews always gotta to be your 1C??
plays shitty, but never loses his position, why????.

Spezza been your best center this season, right? why he is not your 1C instead of Matthews?

I would go with these f line combos.

Bunting-Spezza-Nylander
Matthews-Tavares-Engvall

Ritchie-Kerfoot-Marner
Simmonds-Kämpf-Kase

Sorry coach, no jobs currently available

No it isn't. San Jose played their backup against Ottawa and their starter against us. There is no general rule. If this Leaf team is as good as it should be we should be able to beat a San Jose team playing 3 in 4 while we are coming off 3 days rest with our backup goalie in net. Period. Hutch let in a couple soft goals but that wouldn't have mattered if our best players actually did their jobs.

I didn't watch the game, just caught the highlights but I've seen a lot of people blaming matthews for giving the puck up on 2 goals? If 1 of them was the sharks second goal, somebody called for the puck. Someone yelled middle when matthews picked up the puck. Whether that was marner, Ritchie, or a shark, I don't know, but someone called for it. Wouldn't really put the blame squarely on matthews for that 1.

If he made the pass without even a slight glance then it's on him, it's no different than throwing a pizza up the middle.

Let’s say they went with Campbell last night and won or at least got a point. Can you imaging Hutch tonight when the team is “fatigued” and not expected to put in an effort.

These Twitter no bodies are the biggest cause of the toxic environment, followed by those with little practical knowledge of the game believing they are experts because they can follow stats.
Their arrogance has no limits.

Off to the golf course, final round scramble should be a beauty day.

I imagine it will look like it will tonight, only with two extra points in the standings.

You couldn't tell a bunch of the Sharks players without a hockey program, as they dressed 7 rookies for this game, some of which I'd never even heard of.

I couldn't tell my Jacob Middleton from my Jasper Weatherby from my Lane Pederson in this game.
