I miss the 2016-17 Leafs.

Through 5 games (10 points), they've collected 5 points (50%).

Opponents: Montreal, Ottawa x 2, NYR, San Jose.

How do you come out only 5 points against those terrible teams. How many years have we seen the Leafs play down to weaker opposition? Its infuriating.

Hutchinson definitely didn't do us any favours, however a "SC contending team" definitely would find a way to win.

It's early, yes. Kampf looked good, Rielly had some nice moments, Simmonds a good shift or two, Bunting, Kase are good pieces. Stupid Wes Macauley almost decapitated Kase just so he can make it on camera for a goal signal. Chill out Wes. Spezza keeping me sane :)
Kase has been a pleasant surprise, although I was fully expecting the ref to concuss him.

Right?? The first unit was utterly brutal, while the second unit created high-percentage chances. Starting them as your FIRST unit is a pretty easy message to send.

Also, the fact that Spezza doesn’t have a letter on his jersey borders on criminal at this point.
Biggest problem I saw with the first unit was Tavares. Bad passes, and a couple of completely unnecessary offsides kept us from getting anywhere.

Second unit was much better.

My kids have tuned out the Leafs this season already.

They are all in on the Raptors and Jays, and the NFL.

They both play Rep hockey and can recognize that this group of players don’t have it between the ears.

They don’t clamour to go to games anymore, they don’t ask for Leafs swag. They are young but all they’ve seen from the Leafs is failure and disappointment and they’ve got better options to emotionally invest in.

The thought of spending $500 for 2 crappy tickets to watch these losers go through the motions and play for 12 minutes in a 60 minute game is galling and about as appealing to me as riding a seatless bicycle over a bumpy country road.

Leafs monopoly on loyalty is a thing of the past and it’s already becoming evident.

We deserve better.

Totally agree! But we all know Keefe will not change things up. Might hurt a few certain player’s feelings.

I wish everyone would examine your clear pattern of prose with thin easy to read paragraphs.

I don't read a lot of posters out there now...

Keefe sent the message when he played Hutch.
Not a big game boys!
You are so good we can play the guy we cut when it is not necessary.
I don't trust Soupy to play 2 games back to back.

Keefe needs to find another job asap. This is not junior, this is not player development with the Marlies, this is win today.

We are outclassed and outcoached every game this year, not to mention against Montreal last spring.

These Twitter no bodies are the biggest cause of the toxic environment, followed by those with little practical knowledge of the game believing they are experts because they can follow stats.
Their arrogance has no limits.

Off to the golf course, final round scramble should be a beauty day.

Guaranteed we’ve got some real quotable gold here, time to get the bookmarks out for the impatient, entitled fans. There are going to be some very foolish looking people here soon.

Hey, why do you think that? This has got me a bit concerned. I really think we need Matthews to be able to achieve something in the the playoffs.
He seems like he’s more about the show and not a dedicated winner. I think he rather be on a US based team where there’s less pressure. I think he’s absolute perfect fit for Vegas.

Yeah, your analysis seems very on point. Also now that I think about it - he actually is not invested in Toronto in any way. Winning a Cup in Toronto is the same as winning one in Boston or Buffalo for him. He hasn't grown up with a dream of Toronto winning the Cup (I think McDavid was a Leafs fan), so now that I really think about it ... I am not sure how motivated he is to even go deep in the playoffs - as long as his paycheck is secured.

We didn't play very well, but I still think we could have won with Campbell in net. I'm not excusing the play of our top guys, but Keefe also took an unnecessary gamble with Hutch and lost.

If the Leafs miss the playoffs by a point or two... this game will be remembered

I'm so glad I live in the UK I can just ignore the team when they suck, why are our top guys continual no shows

I feel like it starts from management. They don't respect or fear Dubas. The culture here was completely different with Lou around. These guys bullied him into getting their ridiculous contracts and pretty much run the show. When I watch this team it feels like Matthews/Marner own the team and are in charge. I don't get that feeling that this is Keefe's team, or that this is Dubas' team. I think they legitimately feel like they run the team and are untouchable and it just pisses me the f*** off.

If anything management should be on Marners ass, but instead they caved into his demands. He's a hometown kid who WANTS to play for Toronto. Remind him that it is a privilege to play for this team, and if he refuses to play with maximum effort, he can be traded. When he's on his game he looks like the best player in the world, problem is he decides when he feels like trying and when he doesn't.

Babcock went about it the completely wrong way, but the man had a very valid point. Just executed on it very poorly.

IMO Babcock was the right coach for this team. Many players said they have never played for a coach who was as prepared as Babcock. Kadri went on to say that Babcock was the most prepared coach every game.

Also Babcock held short practices so that players can use their energies in the game instead of in practice.

Also, in terms of line make up - Hyman was the dude that would go in and get the puck for Matthews and Marner/Nylander.

Nylander has developed his game where he doesn't need Hyman type to get the puck for him guys is beasting IMO; Matthews and Marner are still reliant on someone getting the puck for them -> Ritchie is too slow to even get to the puck.

Opposition is forcing Matthews/Marner to dump the puck in by standing the line and when they do end up with entries they are forced outside -> Marner specifically gets pushed off the puck very easily while Ritchie is still catching up

Then you had JT's skating -> he is so freakin' slow for 11 AAV compared to other players that contract is not gonna age well and it is already showing.

Dubas is responsible for cap crunch and team balance and his head should roll if this team doesn't figure it out. He should not be given any opportunity to make any trades/moves. I don't trust his judgment.

It's horrible. This fan base can be absolutely horrible and at times it's embarrassing to say I'm a Leafs fan. It's like the expectation is to never lose and if we do the sky is falling. Yes it's been a less than idea start, but that happens. There's a reason the season is 82 games and not 5. It's ok to accept a loss and move on to the next game.

For some context Tampa's 2020 cup team started the year with 5 points in 5 games.
