Still don’t understand how you can go through a 1 for 36 run and still not change anything about the powerplay.

Stack it with 5 forwards. They have no need for Rielly and his awful pinches or muffin shots that end up going the other way on a 2 on 1.

Bad display by all on the ice. Keefe is blaming himself which I appreciate.
At least this should quiet the narrative we don't need Nylander.

lol at needing Nylander. Does he play in net? Campbell has been trash the last couple of games. Can’t wait for people to start jumping on him soon

Not even Crosby can fix it. The puck will never reach him. Rielly-Marner-Rielly-marner-rielly-muffin then out. Maybe I'm exaggerating but still.

Matthews is pretty much always covered on the PP; they need another shot ideally a solid point shot to keep opposition honest

I just don't see the same movement (feet and puck) that we had earlier on in the season. Not sure what it is that we are trying to do on the PP

Yeah, who needs Nylander when they can just have Mikheyev and his cement hands in the top 6 and keep giving a 41 year old Thornton 13-15 minutes a game instead?

You’re an idiot if you actually want Campbell to fail lol. He’s going to have to suck for quite some time to reach Andersen’s .897 SV%.

The Leafs came out sloppy in he first period and weren't ready to play. The Habs did get a lucky bounce to score the early goal, but the way the Leafs were playing, the Habs earned that luck.

They came back and stormed back in the second and played back to the team we've grown accustomed to this season.

The real killer for them was not being able to capitalize on the powerplay. If they had scored at least one, then it would've been a tied game. Penalty kill has been really good the last three weeks or so, which offset the putrid powerplay they've had over the last month and some change, but tonight, it helped seal the Leafs fate instead.

Campbell has been playing a lot of hockey lately, it's time for him to rest. I know he wasn't playing tomorrow anyway, but he's not used to carrying the load like he has. I love him, great guy, team mates love him, good story this season, has been decent for the most part. I don't know if Campbell is the answer as a starting goaltender for the Leafs next season, but at least he's been given the chance to showcase what he can and can't do.

In his two seasons where he played 20+ games, one season he was .928% and the other he was .900%. Really hard to gauge where he's at in terms of potentially playing 50+ games in a season. I do hope he gets the chance to do so next season, as Andersen won't be back in any capacity for the Leafs.

I hate losing to the Habs, meaningless game in the grand scheme of things, but this is most likely the Leafs first round opponent. They can't come out flat like that in the playoffs, not against a pesky team like the Habs. I don't think the Habs are a good enough team to overcome Toronto though, it's just not gonna happen in a 7 game series.

One last note... Thornton needs to sit out some games. He's 41 and he shows every single bit of it. He really offers nothing of value on the ice in terms of any offensive production. He's not contributing a defensive effort, he's not contributing in any sort of capacity that is meaningful. When Foligno and Nylander are in the line-up, he best be the odd man out, at least for a chunk of games.

Also, Thornton should not have been out there with the goaltender pulled. Keefe pulled Campbell at an awful time, so it was a bad coaching decision. He also should not put Thornton on a line with Matthews and Marner ever again. EVER.

Night.

I feel like this can also be applied to Marner. Guys are just swarming Marner and he is either giving it up, deferring to Rielly, making a pass down low that gets swarmed, or taking a weak desperation shot.

It's like they always have 3 guys going up against 2 of our own. No idea what the forwards are doing but it is on them too. Rielly and Marner have to have places to move the puck besides to each other, and if they are playing our point guys so aggressively, then there should be a lot of space open for our other guys, but they have to move their feet to get to that space. Seems like the low guys are way too stationary right now.

Our 3 low guys on the PP don't move their feet at all. They wait for the puck to come to them and make it way too easy for the PK guys to just swarm Marner and Rielly, or Muzzin/Brodie and Spezza on the 2nd PP. It's not like one unit sucks. It's both units. Both are doing the same thing and facing the same issues.

So I know Rielly is the scapegoat for a lot of things right now, especially the PP, but if he was really that big of an issue then the 2PP would have scored a goal by now. It's not like they haven't had opportunities and even if they aren't expected to score often, they haven't scored a goal in 2+ months even with a bunch of different guys on that unit (including a shot from the point in Muzzin). The few times we have scored, it was the top PP.

Oh yeah, to this day Marner is capable of a very low floor game. What's frustrating is as a primarily playmaking player he'll go into Low IQ hero mode and start taking the low percentage shot for himself, or start throwing around the puck in careless ways because he's feeling the magic from a recent track meet. The Saturday night game was a lot of fun, but when the Leafs string together a few of those run and gun games, you'll see their attention to detail really start to slack.

Blues fan coming in peace. Just want to say I hate that Habs fan that came in peace.

Sloppy effort by the Leafs, it is what it is. You're not going to have it every single night, rarely have we said after a loss its was due to a lazy effort. I really hope they don't play the "hes a legend card" when it comes to Jumbo Joe. He deserves to be a healthy scratch when Foligno can play. Hes been real bad ever since he came back from injury.

Powerplay continuing to be piss poor is concerning, tonight is a perfect example where you could lean on your powerplay in the 3rd to atleast get you tied up, instead they do nothing on it.

The return from injury appears to have been his dead cat bounce. He's been running on empty for a while.

We really need to figure out some high/low plays, especially to give Marner an out, on our PP.

Felt like Simmonds and Thornton were on the wrong sides to make that a possibility, and were always forcing bodies to the net for him instead of giving him passing option.

when the leafs play the habs in the first round, mark my words, they are gonna have all sorts of trouble with them. The leafs always have a hard time with teams that play hard/relentless. This is why ottawa gives them trouble and why montreal is never an easy game because they at least bring it with effort. These teams don’t have the game breakers that leafs do but they make up for it with strong efforts, making the simple and correct play instead of trying to score highlight reel goals and these stupid no look passes to no one, making hand grenade passes. Just play the game right for fack sakes.

and Jesus, get rid of Morgan Rielly... like holy smokes this guy is brutal defensively and he is horrible as a PP quarterback. He is literally no threat on the PP at all. Leafs need to get more shooters on the PP. Every damn team in the league knows its going to matthews cuz no one else has the balls to let it rip.
